I think he's right about the singularity. I was really interested in a random idea in Accelerando that supposed the singularity already occurred in the 60s. Stross himself kind of chickened out when asked the same question (he more or less gave the concept 50/50 odds of occurring), but it's really not that crazy of an idea, especially when most of us can't live without smart phones.
