This is a great Warren Zevon song and now a great Drive By Truckers cover. I happen to think that Warren would love it. This has been getting a lot of air play on Outlaw Country for some reason.
for some reason this version is getting tons of air play on sirius's outlaw country these past few weeks. given that it's not a new release, i have no idea why. i love this video, btw. thanks for posting!
DBT fucking rocks bitches! The singing was sloppy but so what, that's just rock-n-roll! If you listen to the studio version of this on "the fine print" you'll see. And I agree that ther's no doubt they have the utmost respect for Zevon.
As a long-time Zevon AND DBT fan, I think this is a rollicking version of a fine song. It sure as hell beats the horrid use of "Werewolves of London" on Kid Rock's shit-rock single "All Summer Long."
For those of you who don't know anything about the Truckers, they could not be any more respectfull to the muscians who came before them. The lead singers Dad was part of the original Muscle Shoals backing band. Yes...they are rough live at times. It's New Years Eve and they drink....sometimes heavily. They just released this on disc and it's much, much better. I am quite certain the band are all Warren Zevon fans.
@gamjamproductions they may be rough live on youtube, but I've seen them a number of times and think their live performance is unbelievable. So much energy and talent in the room. I admit though, every show I've seen they are passing around a water bottle full of dark liquor but that adds to the appeal..
I don't know these guys, so this is not a blanket judgment on their other work, but I hope the Zevon estate issues a cease and desist letter. I couldn't do more disservice to Warren Zevon than this.
Wow, I'd heard a lot about these guys, so when I saw that they were playing a song by my favourite songwriter...I had to check it out. Sorry I did, that was like a bad Tragically Hip attempt. I hope they've improved since.
You gotta be kidding me, I love zevon, and the song is great because of its lyrics, which he wrote. But DBT's version sounds as pissed off and crazy as the lyrics sound like they should be.
Wow, I always thought this song was a vicious swipe at southern/country livin' written by one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I'm a huge fan of both Zevon and DBT, just never thought they'd cover this one.
Yeah - its a Zevon song - the original is actually one of the videos on the right - and Patterson mentions that its a Zevon song in a live rendition I have where he talks about "slaughtering it every once in a while just to keep it alive."
and to those that say its sucked-- anyone else covering warren with love?

kind of not very good at all these guys are awesome with their own stuff but they shouldn't have done this

They're drunk, they mess up too many lyrics, like how they don't say "The cattle's all got brucellosis, we'll get through somehow"
I like the notion of covering Zevon, but fail
