Paul Maurice, despite his struggles as a coach, is NOT a bad NHL head coach, nor was he bad with the Leafs. MLSE, for once, seems to have dedicated themselves to change. This means burning the current team to the ground and starting over. If that means firing Maurice, if that means buying out contracts, maybe even (dare I say it?) not resigning Sundin, who's a fantastic player and future hall-of-famer.
Yeah I mean Sundin did get some goals for them that did get them some wins. However, they could get someone who can much better in both zones and can score more.

I personally am glad he got fired. The fact is he could not get the team going and we did not make the playoffs both years when he was here. I remember in the beginning of the year when he told the Leaf fans to relax. I knew then and there he was not suitable for the job as what do we as Leaf fans have to relax about? 40+ years without a cup. Not making the playoffs for 3 years. How can we relax? We need to rebuild badly and firing Maurice is a step in the right direction if you ask me.

It was only a matter of time. As far as I can remember, the Leafs have a serious habit of dumping all their blame on the coaches, while keeping the overpaid fat of their team quite untrimmed.
Perhaps the next coach will motivate the players in some fashion, and make them really give their 100%. Otherwise, I think it's high time the whole franchise took an overhaul and changed a lot of its values.
Right now the association is one bent on profits. It would be nice to have one bent on winning.

Wozneiwski is the biggest pile of garbage I've ever seen for a defencemen since Aki Berg. The fact he was never sent down earlier is probably one of the biggest factors we missed the playoffs.
Well it's hard to get a minus when you're playing like 6 minutes a game :P There's guys out there with like 80+pt seasons finishing as a minus because their team is stinky
i checked his avg ice time about halfway thru the season and it was btwn 13 and 14 minutes. and he was a +5 at the time, so however many even strength goals against he might have been on the ice for, he was on the ice for 5 more goals for. i'm not saying he's good, he sucks, but those are the bare facts.
If you didn't make those videos I would absolutely go ballistic as a leafs fan. I agree with the firing. Look at Hal Gill. He goes to the Penguins and the play a good system he starts playing awesome. We'll just wait and see how this thing turns out I guess. Well Cujo was available on free agency and was one of the best goalies around, so they nabbed him. with an extra starting goalie around, they traded for what they needed: a defenseman aka Bryan Berard. And Berard was REALLY good at that point, too. It's just tough luck he got hurt the way he did. REALLY tough luck

i really wasnt surprised about it, with new management on the way he was going to be fired anyways so sooner rather than later always works. Maurice though should have done way better job on coaching how the powerplay should work because not capitalizing on the other teams mistakes can lose you games which happened to the leafs many times throughout the year. The leafs need to make a lot more changes if they want to compete again.

Where to start.Nonis as GM?maybe for 1 season, it also might attract Burke here after his contract expires.Maurice being fired, to a point I feel bad for the guy, especially when you fill a team with dead beats like jason blake and you expect him to coach a team like that? Howver I also agree with you that it shows weakness in his coaching strategies,that cost us alot going betwen Rayzor & Vesa at the beginning.Next coach, god knows, I say this with great loss & a heavy heart,good-bye Sundin.

for 1 season? i've been a leafs fan ever since the glorious 93 season. ahhh TO sports were enjoyable that year! and ever since i've been only thinking about immediate fixes...and its worked until bettman brought in the salary cap...Nonis could never ever in a million years do anything constructive in 1 year with the leafs...JFJ wasnt an idiot, he's a smart guy but the stupid teachers who know nothing about hockey atached strings to his body and forced him into making a mediocre team for some rsn

I hope we get Joel Quenneville but I dont think that will happen,perhaps Burns would be a possibility but I dont see that happening either.About the GM,TSN is saying that we will bring Nonis to be the Gm for 1 year then in the summer of 09 we will sign Burke and move Nonis to another position.Personally,I would love to have Doug Armstrong but I dont think it will happen.I also hope Sundin will resign and we will know very soon,wich is a good thing.Anyways Love the Videos Steve keep it up

It was only a matter of time. As far as I can remember, the Leafs have a serious habit of dumping all their blame on the coaches, while keeping the overpaid fat of their team quite untrimmed.
Perhaps the next coach will motivate the players in some fashion, and make them really give their 100%. Otherwise, I think it's high time the whole franchise took an overhaul and changed a lot of its values.
Right now the association is one bent on profits. It would be nice to have one bent on winning.

Wozneiwski is the biggest pile of garbage I've ever seen for a defencemen since Aki Berg. The fact he was never sent down earlier is probably one of the biggest factors we missed the playoffs.

i checked his avg ice time about halfway thru the season and it was btwn 13 and 14 minutes. and he was a +5 at the time, so however many even strength goals against he might have been on the ice for, he was on the ice for 5 more goals for. i'm not saying he's good, he sucks, but those are the bare facts.

If you didn't make those videos I would absolutely go ballistic as a leafs fan. I agree with the firing. Look at Hal Gill. He goes to the Penguins and the play a good system he starts playing awesome. We'll just wait and see how this thing turns out I guess. Hopefully I'll live long enough to see Leafs win a cup..I am only 19 but the picture is that grim.

Well Cujo was available on free agency and was one of the best goalies around, so they nabbed him. with an extra starting goalie around, they traded for what they needed: a defenseman aka Bryan Berard. And Berard was REALLY good at that point, too. It's just tough luck he got hurt the way he did. REALLY tough luck

oh I see. I duno about "ruined" it, but they gave him NO help in the late 90's: no team in front of him, he had the most shots against in the entire league, no decent backup, and they missed the playoffs.

I think it's safe to say that Potvin in his prime (92-93, 93-94) is without a doubt the best leaf goalie in the last 15 years.

beggining of the year. He should have known that after the first season Raycroft plays as strong as his confidence, and switching him every other game will not help that. But I'm not going to pick at any other specific decisions he made, because the main thing is this team needed a new coach anyways. Sometimes change for the sake of change sparks something. Look at the Caps after they canned their head coach near the beggining of the season.

Kinda glad that Maurice is gone. He wasn't a horrible coach, but he did make some stupid decisions and not the type of coach that this team needs right now. He seems laid back compared to other guys, and this Leafs team really needs to be pushed or put under pressure for them to to well. Also, he made stupid decisions like not benching players during their sub par play with the exception of Wellwood). I also don't like how he made Raycroft and Toskala battle it out for starting position at the..

i really wasnt surprised about it, with new management on the way he was going to be fired anyways so sooner rather than later always works. Maurice though should have done way better job on coaching how the powerplay should work because not capitalizing on the other teams mistakes can lose you games which happened to the leafs many times throughout the year. The leafs need to make a lot more changes if they want to compete again.
