in order to remember how to find sin/cos/tan i usually use SOHCAHTOA (: and then for csc, sec, and cot their just flipped. this was great review for my final tomorrow, so thank you
@otopilas700 To use the Pythagorean Theorem you have to know the lengths of two sides of a right triangle in order to find the length of the third side. In this problem, we initially only know the length of one side. After finding that side using trig, we could then find the third side by the Pythagorean Theorem.
has anyone noticed that the length he got for the hypotenuse was less than the length of the adjacent? isnt the hypotenuse suppose to have the longest side?
Great, thanks! I loved it and it made things a lot less stressful. Maybe the reason most people don't get the concept is probably because the teachers don't spend time teaching the concept throughly. You in the other hand can teach at a pace to understand something that should be common sense. Thanks a lot, I'll check for more helpful postings and I will subscribe.
@froooooot6 many calculators do trig differently. Some let you to type out the expression as seen, and some require you to input values and then operators. It's important to know how to switch between radian and degree modes.
You got this answer because you had your calculator in radian mode. When doing trigonometry, it is always important to know which mode your calculator is in (radians or degrees). For this problem, you should use degrees.
@KennTollens No, it equals approx. 23.66 in the video he used degrees.. to get -75.55 you would use radians... make sure you change your calc. mode to degrees not radians.
That was really helpful, it took me sometime to understand whether to use S = o/h C = A/h or T = o/a but that cleared everything else up, thanks alot!
hey i new to this i just started this in class and i am looking around the net to get a better understanding of it i don't what sind cosd and tand mean sorry to be a bother but you don't learn if yo don't ask lol
I'm glad it was helpful. I'm posting some videos for an algebra class too, but I hope to put some more up for trig soon. Let me know if there are any particular concepts you would like to see.
@deerpark1230 One thing that really confused me was inverse trig functions. Then a student gave me a clear picture of the differences between inverse and regular trig functions: regular, {Sin(an angle)=a ratio of triangle sides.} inverse, {Sin^-1 (a ratio of triangle sides)=an angle.}
Thanks, this has made trigonometry much clearer to me.

For your example problem, would you also be able to use the Pythagorean theorem?

This is so easy to understand. It's like my teacher is deliberately trying to make it seem more difficult than it is.

I'm taking a trig class this semester and I'm have a difficult time understanding a lot of the concepts.
Your video was spoken at a good pace and I understood what was going on (unlike my professor's lectures).
Great job. I hope you have many more tutoring videos to post. I'll keep checking back.
