the background music in the beginning of the clip is beautiful and so is the fusion of english and indian music when Ruth ends singing, Always loved Junoon and the maestro Shyam benegal. Nobody has ever potrayed the indian muslim culture like he has. be it any film of his,
Vinayak, as always a wonderful nugget from your kitty. Thanks for uploading this song. This movie is a really poignant take on relationships between two continents in the backdrop of war. I somehow think that the ability to accord compassion & dignity to the helpless even if they be the enemy themselves in the face of war comes naturally to us Indians. Can you imagine the Brits ever granting that to us in those times??
Buddy, I don't think Javed (Shashi Kapoor) saved the lives of these British women due to compassion and dignity. His brother in law Sarfaraz (Naseeruddin Shah) was ready to kill these women. And Javed would have agreed. The only reason these women were kept alive was because he had fallen head over heels for Ruth (Nafisa Ali). So saving the women wasn't due to any compassionate and humanitarian grounds but rather for sexual reasons!
@ramzilyc Buddy, i have known this story frm my childhood n i love it , its based on a novel "A Flight of Pigeons" by Ruskin bond n is based on real life story , and coming 2 answering ur comment - 1: Javed was in love with Ruth "already" when the story begins and the incidents @ church happens later on ... so defntly he wouldnt hav allowed 2 kill ruth n her family if he would hav been there ,, 2: and saving them was only for his "love" sake coz if he would hav let them go out they would have ..
@ramzilyc been burnt alive and anyways he was married but his wife couldnt have kids due 2 sum prob ,, and last but not the least - in the end Ruth finally realises his love and she too falls for him but when he'll come 2 meet her aftr brit's victory she was ready 2 go with him but he'll refuse coz he'll knw that he has short life ahead !!! so if it was lust only an hour is enough right ??? and if u dnt knw after 55 yrs Ruth dies in London "unmarried",, she spent her entre life in his memory..
This part is sung by Varsha Bhosle, Asha Bhosle's daughter. A snippet by Asha Bhosle does occur in the film when Deepti Naval's husband is brought home dead (IIRC). The whole song by Asha Bhosle was indeed released only on record.
Really awesome........this ia such a poignant moment in the movie.....saawan being the relief from both the heat of summers and the 'junoon' that is sweeping India in 1857.
This one is not sung by Asha Bhonsle. The one sung by her is in the original soundtrack of the movie but does not feature in the movie itself independtly, as a complete song. I had that version (which is really beautiful) but lost it, desperately looking for it. If anyone can post, will be grateful.
