What a shame sounds more soft without the improvisations and the delay theres no solos, it sounds like a ATDI without the hardcore it doesn´t have the agresivity even that are live, I bet there will not be no concertina or Drunkship of Lanterns Omar is a genius but he´s making lose the band all it´s concept they have lost all the misticism to turn them into some of his bands like de facto
@loftuspooch This song is more straightforward, but I still get a sense of Volta energy from it. They have other new songs full of solos and live improv. They're take on broken english has evolved into a 30+ minute barrage of sexual music and guitar solos.
@poshi12 Everybody wants to compare The Mars Volta to a lot of stuff. I usually hear Floyd, Zep, Zappa, and Hendrix. Personally, I think they've been influenced by all these great bands, but have created something new and truly their own.
@all of you bickering hens - Deantoni Parks IS the drummer for the Mars Volta. Thomas, Dave, Blake and Jon are gone. Shut the fuck up, and enjoy the music. No one gives two shits if you're a drummer.
@hippiehynes Deantoni Parks is his name. He's a good drummer, but not great in my opinion. Ive watched a lot of vids of him. He does a lot of offbeat stuff and creative beats, but his fill work is very sloppy, he's just not even close to the level of Jon Theodore or Pridgen. Fanboi's will disagree though. You could put any shit drummer back there and theyll defend him and make up reasons why he's great.
@trenken Pridgen had major difficulty keeping a groove and insisted on overpowering the band much of the time with loud gospel style fills. I really like what Deantoni brings to the table.
@trenken Deantoni Parks is a member of Astroid Power Up. Check them out and get back to me about his precision. Drums are a musical instrument; let them breathe... but he is very accurate in what he does.
@pjustusxi I dont care who he played for, that doesnt mean he's a great drummer. He's playing in TMV right now, and the dudes fill work is awful, not even remotely close to what Pridgen was able to do. Letting them breathe is a lame excuse for sloppy drum work. Im assuming you're a TMV fanboy and would defend any drummer they put down there. The fact is this guy is not half of what Pridgen is behind the kit.
@trenken Many TMV "fanboys" didn't like Flemming or Elitch, so you saying they would like any drummer in the band is not a valid argument.
Many people HATED Pridgen on drums because he overpowered TMV's music and would mess up quite a bit actually. While he has a lot of talent, he was not a good fit for TMV. They have always been about keeping a groove in the background, not having 2hr shed session in the foreground.
@trenken let me ask you a question, who the fuck are you?
Deantoni have played in bands since he was 4 years old.. but hey no, a random youtube user say he's bad, so he is..
You look like a pridgen fanboy.. just watch the tetragrammaton performance in yahoo live sets, that's how you completely murder a song in my opinion.. and you say that pridgen fills better? he just beat the shit out of drums and that impresses people..
Not a fanboy here, but i prefer DP over TP any day, it's subjective..
@sebaba001 Go ask any drummer with some skill about Pridgen's fill work. It's almost unmatched in music today. It's ridiculously difficult and intricate. And Im not a big fan of his by the way, I just think he's FAR more talented than Parks, who is a sloppy ass electronica drummer, not a good rock drummer. Neil Peart beats the hell out of both of these guys, but he's not joining an underground band like Volta anytime soon.
@trenken It's really lame how you try to make some kind of "ranking" among musicians.. Different style is not the same as better, for sure cedric, omar, marcel and juan, all of them know and have more experience in music than you or me, and also know mars volta better than you or me or anyone, and they all like the new drummer, so think about this now, how important is your opinion?
Really, you are just a random user, maybe a mediocre drummer or musician, trying to compare huge unique talents
@sebaba001 Noone said my opinion is important, but it's reflected in the songs. Go watch some vids of the new songs. Not only are they boring as fuck now, but on top of that the new drummer is a sloppy mess hitting beats off time, falling off the tempo at times, fucking up fills hitting the rims of the drums rather than the heads. This band is taking a major step backwards as they get older, that's what's relevant here, not my specific opinion.
@trenken Your marbles are all fucked. D Parks is on point. He is an amazing drummer. Your obviously not one to recognize his talent. So there you'll sit and continue to criticize musical concepts you can't comprehend yourself. Honestly, Thomas pridgen is my favorite drummer for the Mars Volta so far. Of course Pridgen is better! But your ears are used to hearing this band with constant blazing 32nd note combos. Don't compare the two. The band has changed, i'm not happy either.
@trenken It's mostly about opinions and subjectivity when talking about music.. cause i've heard the new songs too, but i do like them, and i don't think they are falling back, they are just taking an opposite direction.. a bigger change than bledam-octahedron.. but well i do like it, and from omar solo works i've heard alot of deantoni parks and i really dig his playing.. i'm not a drummer so i can't really explain why, i just like the way it sounds..
"so this is for all you parents out there who that allow you to go follow your fucking balls. and with that being said these are for all the little magic words that they say to you that keep you from going forward."
@lugnaz987 This isnt really a TMV tour though. They cant tour under the name TMV bc Warner Bros owns the name. Omar said this in like 10 interviews so far, so Cedric not being there isnt really surprising.
Esto va dedicado para los que tienen padres que nos dicen que hay que tener un plan de respaldo en la vida.

@oathkeeper677 Just so you know his group is the same as TMV's, minus Cedric. That's TMV's current drummer, their long time bassist is there, and thats Cedric (plus a haircut), so this IS TMV, playing a new song called Dyslexicon from their new album.
Not everyone will make it as a writer, singer, dancer, artist, musician... some will even end up desolate on the street. I don't think a back-up plan is such a bad idea
@oathkeeper677 Yes but the song is confirmed to be a new Mars Volta track. The omar group has always played new Mars Volta songs before the albums get released.
hm, this song isn't bad, but I can't really hear "the mars volta" in case of totally diffrent to "Octahedron". this is the "unwritten law" of this band, to sound different on every record they're releasing. it looks and sounds more like the omar rodriguez group with cedric as the singer. I know that TMV is decimated in view of their members, but when I see this constellation, this makes more sense to me.
I'll post another video today containing the last half of the first song they played (I wasn't in the venue when they started). Thanks for all your comments and long live The Mars Volta.

pretty sure deantoni did some blast beats at 2:02 and 20 seconds later is heavily grooving. about time they got a drummer who can spazz out AND groove!
I was the person whistling loud as fuck all night long. One of the best shows of my life. I was in line watching them rehearse pretty much like I was backstage, heard cedrics voice and music I had never heard before and realized I was one of the first ppl in the world to hear the new mars volta. All the songs they played blew my mind best fucking night ever.
Best ive heard Cedric in years. Idk about you guys but im buying a hard copy of LP6, the vinyl and anything else they maybe selling with it. Including the book! I fell in love with this band in 2003 and ive never been more psyched!!!
@mustycrusty10 Deantoni Parks. He drummed with them for a few months between Blake Fleming and Thomas Pridgen. Probably the best drummer they could ever have.
@drumsex Theo will always hold a special place in all our hearts. To Deantoni's credit I think he's a far more interesting improvising drummer. Jon's bombast and ability to lay down consistently FAT beats is unrivalled but I think Deantoni is a better all rounder. Listen to the live ORLG record for proof!
@gavwah I went to a show on the Octahedron tour when Pidgen was still the drummer and Omar didn't do back-up vocals. I guess he loves you more... lol
Anyways, yeah. I know he has done back-ups in the past. I wonder if he has done some for the new record, though. He seems more confident with his voice now. That's why I mentioned that.
@BigTymerPimp Fair enough, by the time they got to Australia, the 'incident' with Pridgen had already happened, and they were using Elitch. I definitely remember him doing backing vocals in Desperate Graves.
His vocals on Xenophanes were great. His vocals on Un Escoprion Perfumado I thought were not ideal. They don't bother me, but I can imagine it being used as more ammunition for all the naysayers who think Omar is a terrible musician - I know hundreds of them!
As much as I love this I hope their still down to play at least a few of the golden oldies like Cygnus or Tetra. Hearing a stripped back, up to date, version of Tetra or something would be sooo cool.
@linearpink cedric sounds super post hardcore on this new material. very abrasive. they played like 5 songs and they were all fucking amzing. I was going insane! pure magic. I love it. cant wait to hear more!!
awesome! I know Ikey is still on tour with Free Moral Agents, but does anyone know if hell be coming back when The Mars Volta decide to tour again/put out the new record?
@surfspecz1 he means the original footage not the converted video, you don't need a toolbar (which is probably full of malware) either, just write keep before youtube on the url bar and press enter
This is so fucking good. These guys never fail to surprise and amaze me and not that I give a fuck but I have a feeling a lot of ATDI fans are gonna like this.

@BigTymerPimp Fine comment, sir. Glorious exposition, comrade.

In my opinion, this song has the feel of Xenophanes...aggressive but also really melodic. very cool, TMV never disappoints.

As much as I love this I hope their still down to play at least a few of the golden oldies like Cygnus or Tetra. Hearing a stripped back, up to date, version of Tetra or something would be sooo cool.

I feel like this is the closest they have come to sounding like atdi as the volta..
