@hellokittyjfh heh, and you obviously know nothing about good ballet dancing and artistry. If you want to see people scratching their ears with their feet go watch a contortionist.
I would give the world to see Nureyev perform this live right now.. Margot is wonderful and oh so elegant here, but I still love the Alla Sizova performance of this part way more, even though Sizova was just a student when dancing this with Nureyev. The extensions of her lines are unbelievable!!!
I saw them in Detroit. They did Les Sylphides, Midsummer Night's Dream and Paradise Lost. They were originally only supposed to do Paradise Lost. It was a magical evening made more so when as exhausted as they were they took time with everyone that came backstage to see them. Very patient and polite although I am sure they both wanted to be off their feet. I will never forget that.
Рудольф Нуреев, возвращение в Россию. ВГТРК - Россия - Культура, предлагаю создать целый проект русского балета. Вспомнить и вернуть на экраны русский балет.
Nureyev looks so young and powerful ! He was a great dancer, and this choregraphy is wonderful ! Fonteyn looks very good too, of course.... I wish we had more videos of those two !
Before I have only been able to find tiny splinters of this ballet all over YouTube. To have found all this in one place is a treat! Thanks for posting. Rudik is a god.
She's lovely, but I never did understand how they chose the choreography of her solo. It's either music from Don Q, choreography from Paquita, or it's gamzatti from la Bayadere.
@Balletdancer980 From what I have heard, Nureyev taught her the choreography from what he remembered from when he performed it before he defected. At the time this ballet wasn't in the Royal's rep and he introduced it to them as a sort of gala show piece, as a result I don't think they ever performed the whole ballet just this pas de deux.

@emmsteemmastewart yes rudy performed the solo that legendary dancer vakhtang chabukiani created for himself in order to show off his virtuosity in early 30's but the solo and coda for dame margot were little semplified being she no longer so young
This is a treasure. Nureyev and Fonteyn......the greatest dance partnership ever in my opinion. If ever there was a 'God of the Dance' then it was Rudik.Must be my favourite video........full of true greatness, and beauty.
aaaahh that was wonderful... so sweet and honest! haha bring me back Fonteyn any day... I am fed up with todays stuck up ballerinas with their legs up their noses (=booooring)
remember Margot Fonteyn was in her 40s when she was dancing this ballet. And I think she performed lovely.Stop to think Rudolf Nureyev the greatest dancer of the twentieth century Partnered with her for seventeen Years. When he defected from the soviet union one of his greatest wishes was to partner with her,
and would have continue to dance with her He only dances with the best. And to me she was the best.
They're both so sweet...in terms of techniquei like her much better than Plisetskaya

its just the perfect contrast. The natural unaffected style of Fonteyn matched to the animal energy and strength of Nureyev. Breathtaking!!

Thank you forever Nureyev for what you gave us!
I was born too late to had a chance of seeing such brilliant performances. Margot Fonteyn is also amazing on this!
Thanks a lot for posting!

I just love her perfectly round 3rd position (or "high 5th") arms. Just one of her many unique charms.

for some reason, I watch Margot Fonteyn dance when I'm sad, or I'm feeling lonely. It really makes me feel happy.

She didn't have much extension. And she's very rigid. She's way over rated.
