  • @mphurwitz I was interested in more facts, not facetiousness :) Try a few of the following (in no particular order): My Bloody Valentine The Wipers Godspeed You Black Emperor Do Make Say Think My top 5 are: 1, Sonic Youth 2, Grateful Dead 3, Dinosaur Jr 4, Roy Harper 5, Do Make Say Think
  • All-time top five bands:

    1) The Pixies

    2) Sonic Youth

    3) Dino Jr.

    4) Fugazi

    5) The Melvins/The Velvet Underground/Hum

I'm curious what other Dino Jr. fans listen to. I'm always up for any suggestions for a band I may not have heard. Along those lines, some more obscure recommendations for Dino Jr. fans, that you may not have heard: The Jesus Lizard; Explosions in the Sky; ManMan; Team Dresch; At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta; Neutral Milk Hotel. You may know some or all. Any suggestions for me?

  • @mphurwitz Try Unwound - Lady Elect amazing song

  • @mphurwitz some guitar noise in placebo (check out the songs come home, slackerbitch, nancy boy, scared of girls, and others). their sound is a bit softer but their leader, brian molko, is a great fan of sonic youth, pixies and nirvana. he said s.y. changed his life

  • @mphurwitz your probaby going to find this surprising but dinosaur jr. is my second favorite band ha. they are next to slayer. i dig all types of music and most dinosaur jr. fans do to which makes us such a cool breed because we are not set to one genre. we respect all music. Dinosaur Jr. For Life!

  • @mphurwitz SHIT! I love Hum. I never hear anything about them. I appreciate you. Also, add the Jesus and Mary Chain to that list, at least PyschoCandy. And Husker Du.

  • @PosieDada Oh, I love The Jesus and Mary Chain! PsychoCandy...say no more. Happy to hear you got into Hum, one of the most underrated bands of the 90s imo.

  • @mphurwitz I agree, definitely underrated.

  • @mphurwitz Velvet Underground is 1 for me.

  • @GiantDoucheNG Love the Velvet Underground, they move up and down my top five depending on where my head is at. But yeah, awesomeness.

  • @mphurwitz Our top 2 are the exact same! 1. Pixies 2. Sonic Youth 3. Pavement 4. The Replacements 5. Television 6. The Kinks 7. Guided By Voices 8. Mission Of Burma 9. Dino Jr. 10. Husker Du
  • @TheEnchantingWizard1 Great list, I'll have to check out "Television."

  • @mphurwitz Their debut album Marquee Moon, is my 2nd favorite album of all time, right after Surfer Rosa.

  • @TheEnchantingWizard1 OMG! Surfer Rosa was the first Pixies album I ever heard, and by the third run-through I heard the genius, and it forever changed the way I looked at music. Good pick for favorite album. I don't know if I could pick one, but all the Pixies albums are up there. I mean, come on: Come On Pilgrim; Surfer Rosa, Doolitle, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde are all amazing. Then there's Death to the Pixies, BBC, Purple Album. Do you like FB&The Catholics?

  • @mphurwitz did you forgot nirvana or what?

  • @mphurwitz Butthole Surfers ! And yeeeeah for the Pixies !

  • @mphurwitz Silversun Pickups, Smashing Pumpkins, The Honorary Title, many other bands i'd suggest, Nirvana, just listen to bands that are somewhat like those guys or influenced them, or were influenced by them.

  • @mphurwitz Cage The Elephant, Sublime, Ty Segall, Tripping Daisy, The Toadies, Butthole Surfers, Smashing Pumpkins

  • @mphurwitz And the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction lol

  • 0:03 mmmmm knives.........

  • i read the opening screams as "what happens????" ... but I'd be surprised if that was what Barlow is actually saying

  • @12inchvertical It's "where was it?" "Who was it"...something like that...can't really remember from the top of my head but the lyrics are posted online.

  • Absolutely adore what was happening in late 80s/early 90s rock. So many great bands.

  • @beardedspock..jajajaja ok , thanks professor

  • i miss the 90 ... : **(

  • @MrAlfre1979 this is '87

  • One of my fav's. Thurston Moore just listed this as one of his top ten favorite songs in Rolling Stone, so I figured I would come back and take in the magic. Just a little fun fact for anyone who feels the same way I do about Sonic Youth. One of the few Dino Jr. albums I don't have. Classic though. Damn, I miss the early 90s.

  • @mphurwitz Keep those facts coming!

  • @moopsist I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. I though it was interesting that this song was in Thurston's all-time top-ten , so I figured I would share, assuming that a lot of people who listen to Dino Jr. also revere Sonic Youth. "Sitting on the bull...in the heather."

  • who gives a fuck how old are you

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs you are awful.

  • its nice to see youngsters liking bands I grew up with. SST records was a label that might have screwed their bands but put out great albums.

  • My uncle actually wrote this song for my auntie it's about the best corn cob he ever ate

  • safra boa do rock!!!!

  • Indie Rock Classic. Right up their with The Walkmen's - The Rat and Sonic Youth's - Teen Age Riot.

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs

Yeah I've loved Dinosaur Jr since I was 14, just when or before Beyond was released, saw them live that year too and they were so amazing that it made life suck for the next few days, Im almost 19 now, but yeah Dinosaur Jr got me through my last years at high school.

  • @GEETARS3 american wannabe weirdo who gives a shite?

  • @leu05ad

    Australian.

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs the fact that you're 16 & like these guys has restored my faith ! ( I am just a little older than 16.....;) )

  • OFWGKTA.

  • @dumpstermuffin89 Why are you here promoting Odd Future?

  • I can't get over how good this album/song/band is.

  • What is it, who is it, where is it. I believe is the start. Was it Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth responsible for those screams? I dunno. Fucking ridiculous song from a group that made some molds and broke them. Unlke anything else, worship the unique.

  • @cokeglas i'm guessing he did the screams, but i really wanna know.

  • @cirquexduxsoleil its probably lou barlow

  • @heystopit123 yeah it was lou who made the screams

  • @heystopit123 Tis Lou indeed.

  • @cokeglas All I can say is that Lou Barlow takes care of them live.

  • @cokeglas Lee Ranoldo will always be associated with "Eric's Trip" for me, because when I saw Sonic Youth at Summer Stage in Central Park, that song blew my mind and changed the way I listened to that band. Forever one of my favorites. Not enough people know how to appreciate Sonic Youth, and now that Kim and Thurston are divorced, sadly, there may be no more.

  • My friends and I are a rock trio, and although we don't sound exactly like Dinosaur Jr, we still have that rock/garage sound. We would love if you took the time to check us out! Thanks and Long Live Dinosaur Jr!

  • @PetriesLakeHouse Don't spam, please.

  • This song is so Western Mass!!!! One of my all time fav songs

  • @messrocks89 what do you mean by western mass?

  • @cirquexduxsoleil The song just reminds me of the western part of Massachusetts, where the band formed. Sebadoh does that to me too. Hard to explain. I grew up in eastern Mass. Western Mass. is a totally different trip. Either way such a great tune. Megan Jasper was actually pretty cute back then!

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs arent they on like guitar hero?

  • This song changed my life in 8th grade. i learned guitar by this album.

  • DINOSAUR JR........enuff said!!

  • What a trip, I'd lost hope in music and the tastes of modern kids until I read your posts. You see I've watched it go to hell for 25 years! I saw these guys in '87 and '88, (jr & sr years) wish I could go back - to the shows that is.... NOT high school. Rock on guys, and try Minor Threat and some Bad Brains while your here, then an old band from my home town CLOCKHAMMER, the first two albums....

  • @geerthina dont skimp on operation ivy, they are, imo, the greatest band of all time

  • @nymetsrock I'll check them out, but, damn I feel old, I had to look up what 'imo' meant......ha ha ha, oh well!

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs I hope you fucking talked to him!

  • This is the most beautiful song ever written as far as I'm concerned.

  • is wuz 12 and i thought everyone was gay because no one listend to 80s and 90s indie rock but then i saw this other 12 year old wearing a dino jr tee and i thought hey maybe were not all that bad taste in music LIKE THIS IF U AGREE 8)

  • @CherryGarcia15 stfu, i doubt thats even true, and why would they be gay for not liking dino? you probably made that up after seeing that a similar post was like that and was highest rated and decided to put this to try to achieve that, and telling other people to like it wont make them want to like it,

    get a life

  • @nymetsrock umm no u troll lol its a true story?????

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs I remember my Freshman year I had a Dino Jr shirt on and my teacher told me all these stories about them being one of his favorite bands and seeing one of Nirvana's very last shows. The teacher was kind of a boring douche and the class was hard. Worst of all... when he played music in class he would play really bad stuff and refused to play Pixies or Dino Jr just because the other kids wouldn't know it. Flashcut to him playing a bad Reggae CD and other bad music no one else knew.

  • who directed this video?

  • @thefrcknr

    This guy name Jim

  • this songs it makes me fly, like if I was high, lol is awesome!

  • This intro is the best

  • 2 words: amazing

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs you're such a prick

  • @Makksor I like his enthusiasm...... :(

  • I fucking love this song

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • And here I thought no one would dislike this song...14 morons later . . .

the strum solo part reminds me of smells like teen spirit... love this song forever

  • I've been in love with this song and this album for so long.

  • Is lou actually screaming something, or is he just literally screaming? Cause it sounds like he's screaming "home wrecker". just wondering.

  • @paz21 no it's

    what is it

    who is it

    where is it

  • @paz21 It sounds like he's screaming "Furry things" to me.

  • Coolest way to start an album, ever.

  • would you please make the video embeddable? thanks.

  • J. Mascis: the most musically talented asshole since Phil Spector.

  • @jackdavid124 He really an asshole?

  • @AwesumLittleRedTruck he's a very noncommunicative interview, something of a narcissist and a control freak... but he's mellowed a lot. He's harmless really.

  • @AwesumLittleRedTruck Yeah maybe not quite an asshole, but I have stories! I talked to a guy that worked with him in his hometown and he said that at one point they bumped into a woman at a coffee shop who muttered "Hi J" and he muttered "oh hi" back. Later the guy asked who that was, thinking it was an ex or something like that, and J said with absolutely no inflection "It's my sister."

  • @jackdavid124 Crazy.

  • 1:43. Fuck my life. The best guitar lick ever.

  • a kick in the ass

  • epochal <3

  • I love the way the melody pushes the song into pop right next to noise. Awesome...

  • Good thing I'm so detached, otherwise the pretentious highest rated comments might ruin the experience for me.

  • 0:09 - 0:27 = black metal vocals

  • @ot63 nope

  • SO....Saw Sebadoh last night in Norman, OK and met and shook Barlows hand..........Epic night.

  • replay!

  • one of (if not) the most underated band in history. you're living all over me is simply one of the best records ever made.

  • @mikemikemikemikeeee Agreed. Their epic influence through Indie music over the last 20 years is undeniable.

  • @mikemikemikemikeeee couldn't agree more

  • J is the Hendrix of the 90s

  • this was so much ahead if its time. true art.

  • "Dinosaur Jr. were largely responsible for returning lead guitar to indie rock"

The SST bands always played guitar solos. Flag, Minutemen, Husker Du, Meat Puppets, et al. All this before the 1st Dino album. At best, one could argue that Mascis' solos took it to a new level, and you'd largely be right.

  • This song always cheers me up..

  • This is from alien workshop's mind field, Omar salazars part

  • I got the album, 'You're Living All Over Me' after reading a review in Melody Maker after it was first released and loved it.I also sought out the first album, 'Dinosaur' on the Homestead label. However after the album 'Bug', Dinosaur Jr lost something imo, I didn't buy any of their stuff after that. This track is great though.

  • @richwicz The 'reunion' albums are actually really good.

  • This song is in one of my older skate videos. Does anyone know which skate video it's in? It might be Brian Andersons part in Jump off a Building, but I can't remember :/

  • @makerampsnotbombs Could've been "Streets of Fire" by Santa Cruz. The soundtrack was all SST bands.

  • @TheDaAdVaIlMs ha, I got a shirt for Christmas. I feel like hot shit for liking an amazing band nobody knows about.

  • @TheDaAdVallMs I'm 17 and this has been my absolute favorite band for 2 years.

  • How do they create that neat scratching effect ontop of the raw footage? It's pretty cool.

  • @3sunnyD once upon a time there was a thing called film - super 8 or 16mm - and they would scratch it to make cool effects

  • @Whit3Cube could you literally scratch multiple pictures and make it look distorted and such

  • It is so good that it's bringing tears to my eyes.

  • how good? very good

  • Incredible

  • It's not indie, it's indie.

  • @jonterhaar whatever you meant by that, i agree

  • Maybe my favorite music video ever. A postmodern gem.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow this was my absolute favorite song in H.S.. no idea there was a video for it, so cool!! Thank you!!!! <3

  • underground rock at its best

  • @tobiash6953 *RULES

  • i first heard this song back when i was in 10th grade or around that area...i thought it was pure genius.. i still do.

  • My life flashes before my eyes every time I hear this song.

  • R.I.P my fury thing (-_-,) -k.L

  • @SuperKare123 huh? whats the mean

  • I grab it falls away from me... I guess I'll troll.... I grab it all smashes me... Again i'll troll... xD

  • Agree with me if this song made you feel infinite

  • @whatamess1789 you are high.

  • @zerkocelot im fuckin ripped man

  • @whatamess1789 it made me feel.

  • @whatamess1789 the Perks of Being a Wallflower?

  • This video + Widescreen + Full volume = Best Monday EVER.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • 最初の30秒の部分が10分くらい続いたら良いのにな、と思うことがあります。いい曲だな、と思います。

  • I wish this song was an entire day long. What a day I would have that day! Am I wrong?

  • @demerit5 i have this same feeling when i hear this song, it seems to just encompass a whole days worth of relaxing and being lazy, like a lazy do nothing sunday. It also reminds me, to sound cliche, of the simpler time of my childhood haha

  • sounds like a rbbit falls away from me....:) love this band!!!

  • this is one of my favorite sOngs!!!

  • this song is eternity.

  • .Lee ranaldo, from sonic youth , is the back singer

  • If I was a member of dinosaur I would ask to change the jr. To sr. Lol dinosaur is the greatest band ever:)

  • I hate how these guys are called "Indie Rock" when they clearly aren't. Most indie sounds the same, and I can't think of a single band that sounds like Dinosaur Jr.

  • @giglokinproductions

Uh, that's because indie isn't a sound, it stands for "independent" which refers to the artist maintaining complete control over their careers and relying on DIY ethic to promote popularity. Other bands who are popular for this include The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Beck, R.E.M., and Arcade Fire.

  • @BreakerSizzle

I was referring to what kids refer to as Indie now. Any band can throw on some weird clothing and slap together chords followed by weird lyrics and call it indie. That's not at all what I meant.

  • @giglokinproductions

Oh, yeah, I see what you mean. I misread your last comment. Yeah, the problem with "indie" now is anybody with a Myspace deal can be considered indie, and it's not turning out well.

    See: Brokencyde

  • @BreakerSizzle lol how has brokencyde ever been considered "indie'

  • @BreakerSizzle lol how has brokencyde ever been considered "indie"?

  • @BreakerSizzle yeah...and i'd put bands like Pearl Jam and first of all Led Zeppelin...probably the biggest band of all time (even in terms of money) and they still have the complete control over their creations.

  • @BreakerSizzle -- The term refers to music released on independent labels and not major labels. All the bands you mentioned, might've had music released on an independent (in the case of REM, IRS were a pretty mega-independent label) at one point, but generally were associated with major labels for a long time. However, you can't make the argument that any of those artists are 'independent' or 'DIY' when they all get large recording budgets, marketing, and are signed to a major label.
