There's no difference between 500D, 550D and 600D cuz the utilize the same matrix. More megapixels doesn't always mean the better quality. All other things are marketing to promote sales.
How important is manual exposure control for movie mode?
Can you give an example wherein I would really need to have manual control in movie mode? I really need this camera, but worried I might regret not having the manual.control for movie mode.
@rfalpha I do a lot ov video recording with my T1i, and having manual video control is a huge plus when filming in low light. The camera automatically closes the aperture down to between 5.6 and 10 depending on the situation in order to give it a longer depth of field and therefore focus more accurately. However, the lower aperture makes much less light enter the lens, requiring the camera to boost ISO up to 1600 or even 3200. This results extremely grainy and discolored video.
@rfalpha Manual control lets you keep ISO down to 100-400, maintaing sharp detail and low noise while opening the aperture to let in more light in dark situations. Also when filming fast moving subjects, you'll want a faster shutter speed as to not blur the subject. This camera does not allow you to do so, so when filming high speed action you just hope its not blurry. For every day video, auto is fine but to a film maker like me manual control is vital. For that reason I am upgrading to the 60D
@noonijo1997 the only different between them are the video-mode. if you rather save the money to a lens do that. the 18-55 are okay but not great, i would buy a 50 f/1.8 and save money to a higher class lens. if you get it cheap with the camera take it but otherwise get the 50mm.
My first DSLR camera, and it's great..... i seriously didn't think it would be this good, before i used to think it wasn't that good, i nnever tried it out though, but once i got it, i fell in love with it... my baby . how i like to call it
the let down here is that they didnt film this or edit it into a HD format. So showing us the HD clip recorded on the 500D was pointless.. But I do own this camera as well as 5DMarkII and it's HD capability is outstanding.
How do I change scenes in video recording without moving the camera? For example, I'm recording the flower in front of me, but I also want to record the tree that is on my left hand side. Moving my camera from one position to another looks amatuer. Is there a way that people do it?
Im getting this as an early christmas present. I cant wait XD Ive been waiting for this camera for ages.. But now the 550d is out, im not sure if its worth spending the extra money for it??? Im not a professional, but im going to study photography at college and in general i need a good camera. This looks like you cant go wrong with it but is the 550d worth it?
@oolala12340 So what? Thats not the point on youtube...
The point is that people can upload videos of their own to youtube, they don't have to be perfect... if they had to be youtube wouldn't have been that of a big community!
I just want to ask.. how is the noise? dpreview.com showed that the Canon EOS 500D has more noise than the Nikon D5000. From somebody who has either of these cameras: is the noise that bad?
@JamaicanBMW87 It's not that bad, really. It's a LITTLE worse than a D5000 but not enough to make it a deal breaker. Fact is, once it had enough noise to require editing, the other one does too. In my opinion, it's an even match. Noise cleans up very will with Adobe Lightroom.
PLEASE HELP, i bought this camera other day i recieved it by courier but there is no english Manual, just 4 foreign one's. i did get the manual on pdf file on a disc, but thats no good when your out away from pc with camera. has anyone else had this problem, the contents nside show there SHOULD been an english manual included, but i got it on a disc i need to be sitting at a PC to view, no good to me when im not at home, what can i do, or is there just no english booklet manual exists?
@iannecarlo02 nope, no manual, well there is but its on a disc, you need to put it into pc computer its a pdf file thing, no good when your out and about with the camera
I am not a photographer but I just need something nice for quality images. Is there anyone who can tell me if I should get this D5000 or should I just go for Canon Rabel T1i. They both are around the same price and the specifications are almost the same .. I like D5000 but it has 12.3 mexapexel while Canon is much higher in pixel. Canon T1 has 15.1 pixels. Does that make a difference or what? Please let me know if you are a photographer. I like high quality images. I needed it for my new hobby!
@FUNNNYCATS: Well, thank you for the tip. I do agree with you on many levels. Quality of Canon lenses and optical glass has its own reputation and value without a doubt. I will keep everything you said in mind when I go out to shop. I guess Nikons are more about external comfort and Canon is more about quality. Having said that, I wish Canon had an adjustable LCD like Nikon 5000 has, just to tackle glare and other glossy related issues on the LCD. Anyways, once again, thank you for your words!
@FUNNNYCATS: After all the research, question answers, and practical review. Today, I finally invested my money into new Canon 500d/T1i. I have got my new camera right here!
You were right about rich and more colors. I wanted everything that Nikon D90 is loaded with but then I got all my needs met in Canon T1i.. D90 by Nikon was way too pricy while Canon EOS 500d was able to defeat D90 in features, quality, and price, so I went for Canon 500d and I am very happy with my decision.
what does 720p and 1080p mean? I'm new to all this DSLR stuff -_-; and im doing research as to what camera to get, and i am looking between a nikon D5000 and a canon EOS 500D. Any feedback is appreciated, Thank you!

i also see you have a flash there, is this useful/imperative/better for pics??!
How many continuous minutes of 720 video can you record on the 500D, (UK). I have heard that it is the same as 1080, which is pointless at 20 fps. Am I right in thinking it is about 12 mins ?

totally dont agree with this being a entry level camera, not with the spec it has, 3in screen at 93000k pixels, dust removal system and full hd recording even at 20fps still not too bad, nikon d90 better maybe, but not by much

This is NOT exactly an entry level. The 1000D is the entry level camera, the 500D is the highest up within the series.
It is a CONSUMER camera, not an "entry level".

Dear YouTube,
The Like/Dislike system, I can live with. I've gotten used to it now.
The new comment layout, fine with me.
But THIS, is just too much too take! The front page has completely lost it's organised, simple layout!
I don't know where you get your ideas, but I think I speak for a big part of the community when I say "YouTube, go F*ck yourself."
I hate people who ask for thumbs up, but this is not meant to be funny. This is serious! Give this a thumbs up and copy/paste it around

And yess it does make a difference. You would notice it if you were to take a picture from each camera and put it side by side.
