Nice. Thanks for taking the time to document this info. very helpful. Have you tried shooting with any other added accessories? i.e. scope, tac-light...etc. The reason I ask, I was wondering if the added weight wouldreduce cycle time?
@dothadew333 Yes, unfortunately. We tried adding an ACOG and it would only do three-round bursts at best. Haven't tried just doing something simple like a red dot but I will guarantee you that adding a mag light will affect it. As little weight as possible.
I just put the stock on my M&P 15-22, and i cannot get it to go "full auto" - the recoil isn't enough to allow the trigger to reset. I've used everything up to CCI 40gr High Velocity ammo, and nothing works.
My 15-22 has a muzzle break (it's a threaded barrel)... Do you suppose that is killing the recoil enough to make the stock non-functional?
@vikingsofdistinction You have to remember that I replaced the trigger in mine to a Timney 3 lbs pull which is ESSENTIAL. Also, you have to grease the buffer tube and make sure your non-shooting hand is on the magazine well applying as LITTLE pressure as possible. It takes a little practice but if you do these things... well, you see the result.
also you mentioned your friend was able to manipulate the springs in order to make it work without spending another $200 for the 3lb trigger. Do you have a link or know where can I find this info? $200 for a trigger isn't an option for me at the moment. I've seen one youtube clip use the JPS3.5T Enhanced Spring Kit (red and yellow trigger) but one viewer's comment was they would only get it to do 2-3 round bursts, nothing like your video. Thanks
toward the end (6:20-6:25 mark) you've pulled the stock back and forth and the stock won't fall off the buffer tube like mine did. How did you manage to secure the stock in full auto position, as the buffer tube in the MP15-22 is shorter and smaller than a 223/556 version? My stock latches to the buffer tube when locked in semi-auto, but when I switch it to full auto position the buffer tube can slide right off the stock if I pointed the gun downward. Thanks
@swang702 That's really strange. Mine locks into place when in full-auto mode as it catches the last hole in the buffer tube as you can see. I didn't do anything different to make this happen. Sounds like the holes in your buffer tube might be wearing a little bit?
@vermilck My rifle is brand new, as I removed the slidefire stock I see the end tip of the buffer tube getting scratched. Someone else wrote of the same problem on the web. Now I wonder if S&W have changed the size of the 1 piece buffer tube. I'll contact S&W and see. Thanks
@swang702 - had the same problem with the AR. Reason for that is the lock screw was wound too low to catch the tube rectangle. The solution is simple and the slide stock provides for it in the form of a whole on the top of the tube. Just unscrew to allow the lock screw to come further up into the hollow of the slide tube. Be careful not to screw completely off. This methods exposes a larger bit of the lock screw enabling it to latch into the rectangle portion of the buffer tube.
iv got the m&p 15 22 and a few questions which slide fire is this how hard was it to install it and how hard is it to adjust to the slide fire appreciate it
@worldburrito45 This is the SSAR-15 slide stock. Do a youtube search on it and you will see all about it. It is incredibly simple to install it. You just need to remove the pistol grip and stock from your M&P,screw in a simple block, and slide on the stock... VOILA. You control the stock with a selector switch on the back which switches from semi-auto to full slide-fire.
I was reading that this stock did not work for the 22. Did you do anything to your 22 to make it work. Please contact back. Im waiting to buy my stock.
@jtotheiso NOTE: This is a M&P 15-22, NOT an AR-15 with a .22 upper receiver and as you can see from the video it works very well with the SSAR-15. I would spend some time reading the comments below, they will help you learn how to make it work.
For me, the key things were to cut out part of the stock so it will slide over the trigger guard, grease the buffer tube to allow the least amount of friction, and replace the trigger with a match-grade trigger.
.22 ammo and they all work, the only difference is the cycling rate.
3) It is important to keep the buttstock high up on your shoulder, and tightly pressed against your shoulder as well.
4) Extend your trigger finger as far as possible through the trigger guard. Keep your trigger finger TIGHTLY pressed on the finger rest of the bump stock.
5) Use only your thumb against the back of the magazine and apply as little pressure as possible to initiate the firing of the gun.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I believe I have finally found the key to consistently dump full mags on the M&P15-22. I spent several hours at the range yesterday and around 600 rounds. Here is what I concluded:
1) Surprisingly, this did work a little better after the gun was somewhat dirtier rather than when the gun had just been cleaned. I also found that it helped to fire a few mags semi-auto before attempting full auto.
2) I have been able to successfully shoot all different grains and fps of
Special THANKS to Vermilck for posting this video.
If you're like me, you do have to practice; unless you're like my brother - he picked it up and dumped the clip the first time. Amazing! I've probably shot 40-50 clips through it so far. I've also noticed that it seems to cycle best when it's somewhat dirty, though haven't done a thoroughly controlled study since it also may take me a bit of shooting to get back into the groove of holding it gently.
@ColoradoDesign Thanks man. Listen to him guys. It was pretty easy for me to pick it up, but it took a friend of mine quite a while to get used to the gentle touch required to make this thing cycle. Just do all that I talked about to your gun and practice, practice, practice.
I have a completely stock setup that I can dump the clip, but not every time yet. I too have the FTF problem from light strikes mid clip sometimes. I can moduate cycle rate based on the amount of forward pressure - I use Vermilck's technique, but only deliver pressure by placing my thumb behind the magazine. Also hold stock high in shoulder. Auto fire is mainly technique related, best ammo I've found is Win Super X, Rem Thunderbolt (cheapest stuff on the market:) and Viper.
Hello, I just recently purchased the S&W M&P 15-22 and threw a Slide Fire Bump Stock on there and put in a Timney 3 lb trigger pull. I have tried various ammo types, mostly 40 grain high velocity stuff, from various different stores and I am experiencing the same problem with all ammo types. I can usually get about halfway through a magazine, and then it will stop firing. I will rack it back and a round will come out that has failed to fire. This happens almost every time. Any ideas?
@Scguitarguy This happened to me at first too (and still happens occasionaly). You will notice that it happens near the end of the video. I found that the MAIN reason this was occurring was I was holding my hand on the front grip instead of the magazine well, or I was using too much forward pressure on the magazine well. I don't know why this happens, but if it is happening then make sure you put your hand on the magazine well and just practice alot on the trigger control.
@Scguitarguy I have the exact same set up. The reason for my FTF's was light strikes. The new style firing pin works on an intertia system. The firing pin sits recessed in its hole until it is hit with the hammer, exiting the hold and striking the primer on the cartridge. The old style system had the firing pin level with the bolt face and provided a much stronger hit to the primer. The problem was that it caused OOB ignition. S&W made the change once they found this out.
@Scguitarguy My solution was to replace the firing pin spring with an identical length spring that requires less force to compress, yet still retains the firing pin during the bolt's slamming forward to prevent OOB ignition. Now my light strikes are gone when using the timney 3lb trigger! I picked up the springs from ACO Hardware for $0.60.
Before I switched this up I had the exact same problem as you. I could bump fire half a mag and then it would FTF. Now my FTF's are gone.
@phoward6 Thank you for replying! That's good news. Is there any way you could email me a picture of the springs you bought and give me an explanation of how to switch out the firing pin spring? Thanks so much! My email is Scguitarguy15@yahoo.com
could you make another video of shooting while holding the forend and not the magazine well? I want to put a vertical grip on mine. I bought the stock, the Timney trigger you recommended. I haven't shot it yet, but was wondering if the TW25 grease necessary or can I use Remoil or another lubricant?
@slowandeasy I uploaded another video of myself holding the fore-grip. You will notice that it worked pretty well but did jam. It tends to jam if you put to much forward pressure on the fore grip.
@slowandeasy Also, I initially used the TW25 grease but then wiped it clean and just used some trailer hitch grease for the buffer tube for testing. As you can see, it worked perfectly fine.
I finally shot it today. ~1,400 rounds! but I could only get it to shoot 2-3 round bursts. Occasionally it would dump half a mag or so, but I can't get it to fire like you are doing. What modifications did you do to the stock? All I did was grind down the trigger area so it will not hit the trigger guard. I have the TW grease on it and a Timney 3lb trigger. Shot the federal, CCI and Winchester. Same across the board. I held it by the magwell too.
@slowandeasy key words... LIGHT WEIGHT! Take off your retical or aiming device or any other accessories you have. Use 25 round magazines, not drums.
Another key point is how tight you keep your trigger finger on the guard. IT HAS TO BE TIGHT.
Finally, use as little pressure as possible against the magazine as possible throughout the entire process. A friend of mine tried to use my gun but had the same results you are having, 2-3 round bursts only. It just takes practice.
@vermilck yeah, I thought about buying a light profile barreled upper, but I don't think that would be light enough. It's still fun in .223 just expensive and very loud so I can't shoot at home.
@phoward6 Yep, a standard .22 AR platform will probably not work with this stock because there is just not enough recoil.
My thoughts on the drum would be that a small one (50 - 75 rounds) would probably work as long as you have a really light trigger and alot of lubrication. I don't think the cycle rate would be as fast but it would still probably work. Don't think 100 rounds would be light enough.
I should have my supressor within a month so I'll make a new video with it as well.
@vermilck Thanks for the info....think I'm going to invest in the timney trigger just wanted to make sure everything goes boom! when I pull on it lol....once again great video and thanks
You may try some graphite lube on the buffer tube and the stock. It looks like it has no problems but its should let it move a little better maybe faster ROF. Just a thought. Nice video.
@vermlick Have you ever had any FTF issues with your timney trigger in this gun???? I put a J & P reduced power spring kit and it will cycle the gun with the slide fire stock but Im having 3-5 FTF per mag, not even hardly a mark on the rim. Before I drop 200+ timney I want to make sure I wont have the same problem....Thanks Great Video!
@riflerog81 Not really if you follow the shooting method I use from the video. You have to make sure that you do not put your non-firing hand on the fore-grip. Place it on the magazine itself to allow the gun as much recoil as possible. All of these shots in the video were fired in succession and there was only one FTF the entire time.
great video. Would like to see you shot another video with some controlled 3 rd bursts. Mag dumps are cool but I would like to see if bursts are possible on multiple targets.

@Excel22 I'll try to make one for you in a couple of weeks. I will tell you that it is not only possible but very easy. Sometimes you get 3 rounds while trying the two round bursts but not very often (at least not in my experience).
@vermilck Awesome! Thanks for the videos. I have the same gun and want to make sure it works correctly before I plop down $350.00 for a stock. I know most people have good success with holding the gun by the mag well but I would like to see more shooting with holding a front grip handle with maybe a lighter hold to get the same action when using the mag well.

thank you for this video this answered my question i have an ar15 but i have a 22 conversion kit for it and i didnt want to buy the slide stock to just blaze through 5.56 rounds i really wanted this stock to blaze through 22 rounds because they are alot cheaper. thumbs up
@dalton4771 The one thing I would caution you on is the weight of the gun. This video was made using a SW M&P 15/22 which is much lighter than a standard AR/15, primarily because it is mostly plastic. I think the 22 conversion will work, but it may not work as well as you see in this video because the gun may be too heavy for the recoil to cycle. Not saying it won't work but I would make your gun as light as possible and make the trigger as fast as possible.
@vermilck yea thats true i didnt even think about the wieght well i guess im gone hold off on that until i know for sure if it will work well on the ar 15 with the 22 conversion kit
this is an excellent study of how reliable the ssar 15 is with .22lr ammunition and one of the best videos of functionality of the ssar 15 I have seen definitely a thumbs up.

Nice video! I tried this with a CMMG conversion kit and some Agulia Supermaximum. It didn't work, but my gun is much heavier than a 15-22.
I wonder how the weight of a drum or an American-180 drum adapter would effect the operation of the system.

Great info. Did you use the Timney Trigger AR-15 Competition Small Pin 3lb 667-S for the rifle?

this is an excellent study of how reliable the ssar 15 is with .22lr ammunition and one of the best videos of functionality of the ssar 15 I have seen definitely a thumbs up.
