The Mega Drive is not the Japanese Genesis. The Genesis is the American Mega Drive. In UK, Australia and New Zealand it's called the Mega Drive, the same as EVERY OTHER COUNTRY! Even fucking Mexico calls it the Mega Drive. The only countries that don't are USA and Canada, and even then, that's only because Canada was stuck with the USA systems.
It's interesting how Rare actually improved on the sound and graphics in this one. Especially with the fact that this version uses both the PSG and YM2612.
The reason it's in English is because Rare is a British company whose native language is English and probably the Japanese didn't care to translate it for their version.
now if they would of ported this to the supernintendo and kept everything the same the music would surely would kick ass for example doom has some kick ass tunes
Call me ignorant if you want, but I thought BattleToads was exclusive to Nintendo and I thought Rareware was owned by Nintendo. The reason for English text in a MegaDrive game is because it was also known as the MegaDrive in Europe and Australia, perhaps you have the European version of BattleToads, or maybe your MegaDrive doesn't have regonal lockout, I understand early MegaDrives didn't have regonal lockout.
Heh, I actually prefer the NES version over this for some reason. Can't quite put my finger on it, good vid as always luke sorry I haven't been commenting too much lately just haven't been around as much. Good vid as always
BattleToads is one of Rare's classics. I remember this fondly on the Gameboy.
Interestingly enough Rare only made a couple of games for the Megadrive (including Snake, Rattle and Roll), but had no role in Marble Madness on the Megadrive (despite making it for the NES).
Now if I remember correctly, BattleToads teamed with Double Dragon to give an epic game on the SNES. If you can, find that and do a demo of it.
TATTLEBOADS! Hopefully I can find this one cheap, I've got VS Double Dragon, but I'm tired of playing those first levels over and over again then getting bored. Blasphemy, right!?

It's in English because that's the native language of England where Rare is based. Also A lot of Japanese can read and write in English.

"Messing with the best, and everyone knows - you never fuck around with the battletoads!" :D
Woh, flying on a dragon? I dont remember seeing anything like that on the NES-version!
hm, a rather weird difference: they seem to have made the Dark Queens chest a LOT smaller in this´version!
Thanks for putting this up! I've never seen the sega-version!
