I don't blame the brits for talking more about the Human Rights stuff that our sports, ecomomy or food: for 15 years, most of the chilean exiles in Europe were of left-wing.
2:02: "Miracles have been known to take place"...and the guy coming off the grave, LOL
O'higgins wasn't a hero. Pinochet loved him because he was a dictator like him. So he label all the city of Santiago with his fanaticism. So much that until recently all classrooms had a picture of o'higgins by obligation.
I remember visiting the General Cemetery in Santiago a few years ago: I walked and walked and still couldn't visit the whole place. Maybe 2 or 3 times would do, that cemetery is enormous.
It is important to know that some people who were killed, and whose names are carved in a big wall monument happened to be alive after all. In fact, they had to erase some names from that big wall.
I am not justifying some atrocities which were committed in that government, but most of the people died in armed conflicts. You should check que Rettig report, which is the name of the Chilean Truth Commission Report.
The truth is never as simple as people tend to think.
These who denied the killing and genocide that occured in Chile in the 17 years of tiranny by a thief and a shameless general are so dumb stupid for supporting the killing. The people of Chile would never forget the attrocities and indeed children were murdered by that dictator. One was found recently when workers were re-paving a street.
@fideluna I totally back you up on your comment. Some people in Chile just choose to live in ignorance and justification to what happened, but the rest of the wolrld at least knows what the truth is.
can you explain your comment, if you dont mind. Norway is too far away for me to know the history of chile, but you got me curious. If you tell me a little i will try and search for a more detailed history. akedna@live.com
Mi freind you got the information totaly wrong, first only 3000 marxis wore kill on 17 years of military goverement, and 700 Soldier got kill fighting the marxist, also
Try believing in democracy chupalliento, an army doesn't attack it's own people. There were people that were against or were targeted by an illegitimate military government, illegitimate like O'Higgins was and his government backed by san martin and the landowners
his official name was Riquelme. Ambrose O' Higgins like many an irish soldier joined the spanish army and imperial service. His illegitimate son went to england to study and joined the Lautauro Lodge along with Francisco Miranda, San Martin and Simon Bolivar. Where he decided to pledge himself to the indepedence from spain as well as joining south america into one country with a strong central govt instead of a federated govt like Carrera wanted.
O' Higgins liberated Chile from the spaniards. O' Higgins was ethnically a spaniard who's nationality was Irish and organized a movement that abolished Spanish control of Chile, in conclusion giving Chile indepenence.
I am Chilean. That wall in the cemetry is a complete fiasco. Some of those people have appeared, and they have not removed their names.
Furthermore, only 2000 were the dead (mostly armed terrorists), not 4000, as the video says. 500 policemen and ordinary people died as victims of those terrorists.
jajajajaja yo soy chileno el video ya e smuy viejo jajajaja la ciudad esta cambiada y en el segundo 0:33 se ve una micro amarilla 382 jajaj y dice villa francia de ahi soy yo xDD

O´Higgins was the real independence heroe, in fact he fought hand to hand with his soldiers. Last part just was political bullshits, lefty guy.

O'Higgins wasn't a real hero... he betrayed Manuel Rodríguez (the true patriot and libertador) and the Carrera Brothers to keep power for himself.

Hey Michael Palin,
Now, in all fairness, go and do a documentary on Castro's Cuba or Chavez' Venezuela.
