@aji802000 Well that is your opinion but back in my home country we have a dog called Sarplaninac which is one of the biggest dorg breeds in the world its also its almost 3x the the size of this ovcharka it is proven to have the most lethal bite of any dog and the punch of a boxer with its paws.... & I have seen people put pitbulls against them and even Dogo's and it massacred those dogs...

@TheMightykaz, You're correct. Sarplaninacs are MUCH smaller than Ovcharkas - only about 1/2 the size. I don't believe there's a dog on the planet that reaches 300 pounds, much less 600 pounds. A few dogs have, I believe, topped 300 pounds, but not by much and they were rare exceptions.

@tuki1boo, the English Mastiff can get up to 300 lbs, but that isn't the average or close to the norm. Their weight averages (for males) 150-250 lbs. Females are much smaller, though still huge. The largest dog weight ever recorded was 343 lbs, and yes that was an English Mastiff. I would only believe that your brother had one at 300 lbs if it was recorded somewhere. If true, that would make it near to the max weight of any dog, ever.
@TheIronwil Not everyone gets their dogs weight recorded my brother wasn't into things like that. His mastiff was named Cole Train he was a big one he made the floor shake when he laid down but of course he is dead now.
@tuki1boo, I'm not saying your brother's dog couldn't have weighed 300 lbs, just that it was highly unlikely. As stated in my original post on this, some dogs might occasionally reach 300 lbs, but no dog on the planet has 300 lbs in its average weight span. Even getting a correct weight from a dog like that would be difficult. If you took him to a vet a he weighed that much, you'd have a record to prove it, but in the end that isn't very important. It's possible, just highly unlikely.
@tuki1boo, You should be. I though you were going with other dogs because of environmental factors after you moved. If you do get COs, I would highly recommend that you get a male/female combo to start, and get them fixed when old enough. Same-sex dogs of roughly the same age are very prone to fighting with each other. Make sure you upload videos of the pups when you get them!
@TheIronwil Ok I'll check my list because I didn't see you but I may have over looked you but I was going to write you to tell you I changed dogs again. We decided to move to Colorado instead thats a much better environment for them then Texas. But the males that I wanted to get would be brothers. See my over all goal is to have four Cos but my wife wanted to start with 2 to see how it works. We wanted two males from a breeder in Russia because we really like her male aka BagRat thats his name.
@tuki1boo, just to put my 2 cents in about this, I'd highly recommend not getting 2 brothers. Males fight more than females, and same-sex fights occur a lot more than male-female fights. On top of that, dogs close in age are more prone to fight than dogs who are different ages. So you'd be getting 2 dogs with the absolute highest chance of fighting with each other, and these would be very large, strong dogs. Not an impossible situation, but difficult to say the least.
@tuki1boo, That would be a good idea IMO. A male/female pair isn't nearly as likely to fight, and once they're 2-3 years old, the chances that another pair will fight with them are lessened. None of this is a matter of certainty - I've seen a video where two adult intact males and a female in heat lived together without fighting (though this is extremely rare). But it's good to stack the odds in your favor. Make certain to get all of them fixed when it's time or you'll probably have issues.
@TheIronwil I got another idea that you will like, but I will reveal it in the vid. I know I have only been putting up my snake vids right now but trust me I'll have up CO vids in the NEAR future. It is just takeing some time though. But I'll tell you this I do plan to get 4 at once but thats all I'll say for now. Can't wait for you to see my idea.
@tuki1boo, I'm worried for you in this choice, so hopefully your plan is extremely sound. For a person that has never owned a livestock guardian dog, even getting 1 isn't always a good choice. Getting 4 at once will be hugely expensive (they're usually well over $1000) without even taking into account the initial vet bills, which will be no joke. Besides that, the training and socialization requirements for this breed are very high. I wish you luck and hope for the best with your decision.

The trainning will be fun. See you would have to know my wife and I,but since you dont I understand your concerns. I personally couldn't care less which dog would win in a fight, but as for size, Ovcharkas are much bigger than Sarplaninacs, and neither of them have the strongest bite in the dog world. That goes to the Kangal. "Most lethal" bite is kind of vague and impossible to prove, so I went with bite force. Yes, most dogs wouldn't do well against Ovcharkas or Sars, due to their immense power and heavy fur coats.
@aji802000, I have to say you're speaking more with wishfulness than fact. Going "straight for the neck" isn't going to help much with a dog that has a heavy fur coat armoring their necks. Ovcharkas are known for their lion-like manes. Also, Ovcharkas are well-known for killing large mountain wolves and small bears. Dogos are very tough, but I think they'd be on the losing end in this fight.
@TrassseB Moreover, the Dogo Argentino don't feel pain on the muscles around the head, the Dogo Argentino race was designed to have lack of sensitiveness on the facial musculature for the Dogo to be able to lodge plenty of bits and chews by pumas and boards as the Dogo Argentino was a dog designed for puma and boars hunting. That lack of sensitiveness also makes the Dogo unable to raise its ears properly and that is the reason why Dogos' ears must be cropped.

@TheMightykaz, You're correct. Sarplaninacs are MUCH smaller than Ovcharkas - only about 1/2 the size. I don't believe there's a dog on the planet that reaches 300 pounds, much less 600 pounds. A few dogs have, I believe, topped 300 pounds, but not by much and they were rare exceptions.

@tuki1boo, the English Mastiff can get up to 300 lbs, but that isn't the average or close to the norm. Their weight averages (for males) 150-250 lbs. Females are much smaller, though still huge. The largest dog weight ever recorded was 343 lbs, and yes that was an English Mastiff. I would only believe that your brother had one at 300 lbs if it was recorded somewhere. If true, that would make it near to the max weight of any dog, ever.

@tuki1boo, I'm not saying your brother's dog couldn't have weighed 300 lbs, just that it was highly unlikely. As stated in my original post on this, some dogs might occasionally reach 300 lbs, but no dog on the planet has 300 lbs in its average weight span. Even getting a correct weight from a dog like that would be difficult. If you took him to a vet a he weighed that much, you'd have a record to prove it, but in the end that isn't very important. It's possible, just highly unlikely.

@tuki1boo, You should be. I though you were going with other dogs because of environmental factors after you moved. If you do get COs, I would highly recommend that you get a male/female combo to start, and get them fixed when old enough. Same-sex dogs of roughly the same age are very prone to fighting with each other. Make sure you upload videos of the pups when you get them!

We decided to move to Colorado instead thats a much better environment for them then Texas. But the males that I wanted to get would be brothers. See my over all goal is to have four Cos but my wife wanted to start with 2 to see how it works. We wanted two males from a breeder in Russia because we really like her male aka BagRat thats his name.

@tuki1boo, just to put my 2 cents in about this, I'd highly recommend not getting 2 brothers. Males fight more than females, and same-sex fights occur a lot more than male-female fights. On top of that, dogs close in age are more prone to fight than dogs who are different ages. So you'd be getting 2 dogs with the absolute highest chance of fighting with each other, and these would be very large, strong dogs. Not an impossible situation, but difficult to say the least.

@tuki1boo, That would be a good idea IMO. A male/female pair isn't nearly as likely to fight, and once they're 2-3 years old, the chances that another pair will fight with them are lessened. None of this is a matter of certainty - I've seen a video where two adult intact males and a female in heat lived together without fighting (though this is extremely rare). But it's good to stack the odds in your favor. Make certain to get all of them fixed when it's time or you'll probably have issues.

@tuki1boo, I'm worried for you in this choice, so hopefully your plan is extremely sound. For a person that has never owned a livestock guardian dog, even getting 1 isn't always a good choice. Getting 4 at once will be hugely expensive (they're usually well over $1000) without even taking into account the initial vet bills, which will be no joke. Besides that, the training and socialization requirements for this breed are very high. I wish you luck and hope for the best with your decision.

I've arranged to meet three of them, and they're just like described online - calm, affectionate, beautiful, and huge. Their exercise and socialization requirements aren't as high as the Caucasian's. After raising Aussies and Border Collies, I'm looking forward to some mellow.

@TrassseB, I'm sorry but you're incorrect in everything you've said here. I personally couldn't care less which dog would win in a fight, but as for size, Ovcharkas are much bigger than Sarplaninacs, and neither of them have the strongest bite in the dog world. That goes to the Kangal. "Most lethal" bite is kind of vague and impossible to prove, so I went with bite force. Yes, most dogs wouldn't do well against Ovcharkas or Sars, due to their immense power and heavy fur coats.

@aji802000, I have to say you're speaking more with wishfulness than fact. Going "straight for the neck" isn't going to help much with a dog that has a heavy fur coat armoring their necks. Ovcharkas are known for their lion-like manes. Also, Ovcharkas are well-known for killing large mountain wolves and small bears. Dogos are very tough, but I think they'd be on the losing end in this fight.

@TrassseB Moreover, the Dogo Argentino don't feel pain on the muscles around the head, the Dogo Argentino race was designed to have lack of sensitiveness on the facial musculature for the Dogo to be able to lodge plenty of bits and chews by pumas and boards as the Dogo Argentino was a dog designed for puma and boars hunting. That lack of sensitiveness also makes the Dogo unable to raise its ears properly and that is the reason why Dogos' ears must be cropped.

It's too small and skittish. The largest they prey on is baby deer. They are insect and rodent eaters.
