Part of the problem is whether you count victims of bureaucratic negligence the same as those killed by overt acts. Back then slavery was culturally accepted so it wasn't wierd that some of the founders had slaves. However, the Civil War proved that America wanted to change the standard. Women didn't have as many rights as they do now but face it there are gender roles that do exist. If you read about the founders' wives you will find out that they made huge sacrifices for the country too. Patriots.

Part of the problem is whether you count victims of bureaucratic negligence the same as those killed by overt acts. @rrsrichard I'm not sure how slavery got dragged into this but a lot of the founders were against slavery. Back then slavery was culturally accepted so it wasn't wierd that some of the founders had slaves. However, the Civil War proved that America wanted to change the standard. Women didn't have as many rights as they do now but face it there are gender roles that do exist. If you read about the founders' wives you will find out that they made huge sacrifices for the country too. Patriots.

I think that people are losing their understanding of the Constitution. This country produced the constitution as the basis of all federal law.
