  • I liked the movie it leave a lot to personal interpretation which is imo good thing. It inspires thought.

  • Watching this review, I can't help but think of that quote from Evolution, "Oh, no way. I seen this movie. The black dude dies first."

  • And Samuel L. Jackson is.... The black guy.

  • LOL WOW when I SAW this title in the suggestion box while surfing Siskel and Ebert reviews - LOL LOL sorry I still can't get over this!! - I could not BLIEVE it could possibly be "THE" Sphere as in Crichton's Sphere LOL I"m sorry I'm still,..not really laughin as much as I'm tripping! I would've NEVER guessed they would make a movie of this bull crap! The funny thing was the book was OK and had a lott promise but it seemed like toward the end he kinda GAVE up &didn't know how to climax/payoff it

  • any one else think this was some sort of prequel to CUBE?

  • Hah, floppy discs. So nineties.

  • as usual the book is far better than the movie, they simply don't have enough time to give you a good on-screen representation.

  • Wtf, queen latifa? Who the fuck cast this garbage? Does Peewee herman show up as the pilot?

  • my brother loves this movie , but can't get friend over to watch it without talking to each other because like the critics say, it's boring.

  • @1MoreRoundbrother maybe U need to give your 'Brothers' friends '1more round' and they will at least pretend to be interested or @least enjoy it thru the beer goggles. Beer goggles; the old 3D lol. But I'm curous, has your brother read the book?/and or is he a fan of it. I think it would be stranger if not B/c usually in cases like this - especially for a movie so readily accused of being boring (I've not seen it personally but read the book) usually fanship of the book FUELS fanship of the film

  • Fuk you ppl Sphere wuz awesome.

  • What's sad is that I think this movie's production crew knew how boring this was going to be to watch, so they tried to use "tension bait" lines like at 1:41-1:45 to keep the audience interested which never amount to anything and are never explained. Just plain annoying.

  • Why can't hollywood ever seem to do Michael Crichton's work justice? Jurassic Park was the one good adaptation...

  • @WeaponXXIV And Congo Wasn't? I loved Congo, Jurassic Park was my least favorite adaptation of them all.

  • @shogunblade thats an interesting take. I'm assuming you did not say it just for shock value right? lol. 2me Jurrasic Park; it was a GREAT movie & an average to maybe above average adaptation. CERTAINLY not a GREAT adaptation. I mean for one thing, the biggest part of every adaptation (and film for that matter) even bigger than the dinos - R the characters - they got just about ALL wrong. And SOME of them were actually EXACT OPPOSITES of the charcaters their based on. Hammond! Ur complaints?

  • @WeaponXXIV 4real? (about your opinion I mean, not that I so much disagree as much as I'm curous as to your exact take) I guess I'm @a disadvantage as I've only read exactly TWO of his books.1 was this and the other was the one that EVERY body knows (if not have read serveral times) so did you see the film? Wow - have a look @my comment below for more perspective (you know how Utube is so very GENEROUS with comment space) "The ending is flat &disappointing", yeah? Try the book lol. U liked it?

  • @CubbieBear1980 I admit I am more biased than not. Crichton is my favorite author. Timeline was a great book but was useless and not at all memorable as a film. I loved The Terminal Man but was extremely disappointed in the film. Congo was made to be ridiculous when adapted to a film. I loved Disclosure but strongly disliked the film. Basically the only book of his I did not like was The Lost World. All his books have great potential to be great movies but somehow they rarely are.

  • Saw this in the theater in 1998...I expected more.

  • Yea this movie was nowhere near as good as crichtons novel. It was a big dissapointment.

  • Models are good! This guy knows nothing...I thought Sphere was 10/10! Loved it!

  • Good call with Solaris, the book of which is better than both versions of Sphere, but the movie is worse than both. The "you are teh monster" is a goddamn copout that Forbidden Planet had the good sense to avoid. Would have been a better movie if it actually had a supersquid.

  • The movie was not as great as the book, and I've read the book.

  • I agree with both. Starts out really good with really good actors, but then fades, fades away.

  • @alexalex3131 well you must not have read the book or if you have are not making the connection b/c I've read the book and haven't seen it - I didnt even know it existed until 15mins ago &am still trippin that some1 thought it'd b FILMworthy; to me the book is more like a thesis or sketch/think tank for what COULD be a movie but not a movie in and of itself - anyway if what you're saying is accurate (&I'm sure it is) then thats a PERFECT adaptation! Y? Re-read Ur comment. THATS the book!

  • Howie Mandel, Starwars 7, Pink Lightsaber....What the hell is wrong with you people? See it NOW!!!

  • Damn, Ebert loves to hear himself talk. Ugh...

  • the book was really good!

  • Hahaha "It reflects everyhing but us." Is it because it's like 24 times easier to make to make the "cubemap" to reflect just the world than all its surroundins in real time :d .. i think that is just a patch to cover up some things they originally looked over..

  • I just finished watching the film and I do agree them that the beginning of the film is alot more interesting than the end of the film and the computer Jerry was really underused, still I'd give this film a thumbs up because it was well made and entertaining I just felt like it could have been better had they continued the way they were going at the beginning of the film.

  • @woollybully100 well I must start by asking HAVE you read the book? b/c that can greatly effect opinion/understanding and in this case MORE so than other book adaptations (like Jurrasic Pk) whether or not U read the book is pivotal to your whole experience/perception&views of the film. If you HAVE read it most likely you know what I mean. "Jerry" being underused or well used matters little b/c ultimately the payoff SUCKED. Jerry is CONNECTED 2what the payoff COULDVE BEEN. The Potential WAS there

  • @CubbieBear1980 i hav not not but if the ending actually goes in the dirrection the film seemed to be going in the earlier scenes with jerry then I may really like it.

  • I agree with sebastianquilt. These two completely missed the point of the movie; namely, you are your own worst nightmares. Instead of looking at the film's considerations they're haggling over the trappings of genre.

  • I think Sphere (outside its textual mirror) is terribly underrated. For the same reason I think so is Dreamcatcher.

  • well at least they got it right on this one...the movie sucks.

  • I really wish the about thing for the video (on the right) didn't say:

"Both of them didn't like this film."

Or anything of the sort. I like watching the show even IF I know what they are going to give as a review. Sometimes they really suprise me and give a review I didn't expect but for the most part, I can guess and be right 95% of the time.

Still though, it sort of makes the whole thing seem pointless to be able to know ahead of time.
