  • The master of Malagueña? Sure, if you like hearing somebody hitting it with a sledge hammer!

  • @mrbubetube and u can do better douche

  • @fabfamily2009 I know a lot of people who can do better, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure most Tennessee lumberjacks and Texas cattle ranchers would prefer Roy Clark's rendition, but most Spaniards would regard it as heavy handed and lacking that Chicano spirit. Brian Setzer did a rousing rendition of it too that would be favored by thousands of rockabilly fans, and scoffed by Texans and Tennesseeans.

  • @mrbubetube im sure there's a lot of chicken o's that play the guitar but none like roy, bube

  • @mrbubetube I'm Spanish and I prefer this version. Never been to Tennessee or Texas. Grew up in the big city and know one thing, you're stupid no matter what state you're in.

    Spam Marked as spam

@MaxFrisch2010 Yep! Jaylee claimed all those things, and that Britain lost the Falklands War, there's no such thing as jelly, Fatty Arbuckle was a fictional character, Sherlock Holmes was a real person, the two most common boys' names in the UK are Mohammed and Percy...and that he's a kung-fu master with a "registered IQ" of 189!!!

  • @MsTeenBirmingham Oops! Ol’ Jaylee accidentally marked yet another one of your excellent comments as spam. The clumsy twat’s probably had too much scotch again. Anyway, here it is again:

“@MaxFrisch ROFL! Thanks for those comments on my page. Gave me a big laugh. Jaylee fucks up again. Big-time! I reckon he was probably drunk, as usual, and it's about time the poor old feller got help with his drinking problem.”

  • @ThumbsUpification where r u?

  • Not necessarily my favorite version, one of them for sure but malaguena is such a great song I like em all

  • @MissTeenAlobama Seriously, don't waste your time on that worthless shit Jaylee. He's a sexually frustrated freak who spends 24 hours a day on here harassing innocent people and posting comments on videos of underage girls dancing in their underwear and hateful remarks about Brits, black people, 9/11, Moslems, the Irish and anyone who can spell better than him (which is everyone. He boasts about his wife-beating, army-deserting and being on the sex offenders' register. Very creepy man.

  • LOL, Jaylee's here. And I see he's still posting hateful comments about everyone and not talking about the video. Nothing changes, I guess. You can all see why I and many other people blocked him from posting on our videos. Peace everyone :-)

  • Roys great, but these posts are sad. And yet we wonder why theres wars and violence.

  • @TheTinker6871 Wise words, my friend. Thank you for saying that. I came here to enjoy the wonderful music of my hero Roy Clark but had to endure a plethora of anti-American insults from someone calling themselves YanksAreFucktards and a number of very distressing 9/11 “jokes” from somebody called JAYLEE169. I’ve reported them both rather than retaliate, as I’m not a confrontational person, but I agree it’s very sad that people post such remarks. Thanks again. Peace.

  • @TheTinker6871 So is this your favourite version of this song? For me, it has to come pretty close, though I'll admit it has some stiff competition from Stan Kenton's version. Nice to meet you anyhow. And it's good to see someone actually comment about the video, rather than come here to bully and harass people, like the person below and many others.

  • @TheDogonebad1 Wise words, my friend. By the way, what's a "foll"?

  • @PeasLoveHarmony Thank you for your excellent question. And no, that J169 dude hasn’t offered any words of comfort about my brother dying on 9/11. Just like he allegedly made lots of sick jokes about that Birmingham lady’s mum dying, he also keeps insulting the memory of my late brother. I don’t hate him, though, I just pity his soul, which I think he has now lost. Once again, thank you, and peace to you and your family.

  • ROFL! Tattle-tale told teacher.

I think he's gonna cry now, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

  • @TennesseRedneckGir In between showering you with hate in response to you sharing about your brother dying on 9/11, has Jaylee actually offered any words of comfort or sympathy whatsoever?

  • Comment removed

  • @TenneseRedneckGir Sorry about your brother, man. And thank you for reporting Jaylee.

  • Take it easy on Jaylee. He is retarded. He can't help his tantrums and violent seizures

  • @JAYLEE169 WTF? You were mocking a guy because he lost his brother in 9/11?! Shame on you!

  • @JAYLEE169 <<< Fail.

  • ROFL! Jaylee's reported himself for harrassment! About time too, LOL :-)

  • @JAYLEE169 The date you made that derogatory 9/11 comment and the link to the video on which you said it are clearly labelled beneath said quote on my channel page. But thank you - I take your protestations as a sign that you're starting to feel guilty about what you said and to empathise with me and my family and what we went through on that terrible day. Thank you, Sir :-)

  • I love hearing any interpretation of this, but the fact that Roy is playing it on a 12 string gives it a whole new depth... Amazing!

  • @connberkshire Outstanding version, but you can't play the traditional flamenco style on a 12 string, because to my knowledge, no one has ever built a true traditional flamenco guitar as a 12 string, and if you tried to play it with the techniques flamenco players use, you'd have no fingers left.

  • They are two completely different styles. I prefere Roy's version since it is more animated, which is Roy's personality. i have known Roy since 1964 when he played at the Morningside Inn, in Morningside Md, and i rented a house boat from him. He is the greatest. , while Jose is the typical flamenco stiff serious version.

  • If you have any doubt about the Master. ALL of the other artist on You tube are playing this piece on a SIX string guitar. Roy Clark is playing a TWELVE string guitar. The difference is considerable IF you are a guitarist. Roy wins until some one challenges with the same instrument and out plays him on it.

  • I can see you never heard of Jose Feliciano. Roy Clark could not keep up with Feliciano when they went head to head playng the Malaguena.

  • guys you all need to check jose felicianos the one black and white

  • Wow, what a wonderful performance!

  • Sabicas

  • No, it's definitely Jose Feliciano. This guy is awesome, but Jose made sweet sweet love to this song, like no other man can.

  • Gender aside, my vote goes to Liona Boyd..pure and true...

  • Speed and control..... he is as goood as one can get.... he is the best

  • IMHO, YouTube "Sabicas Maleguena" is the definitive Maleguena. A single guitarist, a small, smokey cafe in Spain, and a small audience. Simple, unembelished, and classicaly beautiful.

Roy Clark;s version, while amazing, is, in my opinion. over-theatrical and gaudy.

  • @jgmagoo1

    I couldn't disagree more.

First, consider that Roy is a flatpicker, not a classically trained Flamenco player. Obviously, his version is going to be "all Roy", completely incomparable to a more classically executed performance. Apples and oranges. Also, what you classify a "gaudy" and "over-theatrical", I'd classify as passion. Roy is quite genuine in his excitement when he plays. He 'lets it all go', as they say. There really is no legitimate 'criticism' of this song. Only opinion.

  • @WorldsBestGuitarists Wow you must forget that Jose Feliciano is BLIND Roy hats of but the Blind man takes it

  • wow. that's all i can say :)

  • Roy is an amazing all-around musician. I have never seen Malaguena played this way. He uses the ENTIRE guitar. He is a modern day Segovia! When he breaks it down at 4:30, I get goosebumps.

  • buddy holly version was even better clark is second

  • I THINK ANTONIO BANDARAS

  • Jose feliciano is the best !!! This is just shit !

  • No I am good with this - I had no idea who he was ! Lord Look at what Thy has made !!!

  • Undisputed is a harsh word. Roy does a HELL of a job considering he's using a flet pick on a song that was designerd to be played finger style. For the deffinitive version, however, I suggest reffering back to Vincente Gomez.

  • Malagueňa with plectrum in 1987 - perfect , greit music ......

  • Please also note, ye naysayers, that he is playing it on a 12-string guitar which brings the degree of difficulty up a few notches from "just" playing it on a 6-string. ;-)

  • Malagueña is not played on electic guitar............

  • I've seen many musicians over this 51 years,Roy Clark has always been at or near the top of influence on me,musiclally.he plays many instruments, but the guitar is almost always the favorite am I right?

  • Well, I think this a pretty great version considering that It's supposed to be a "break" where he gets to sit down and take it easy for a minute. And I think its great that his rock-a-billy roots show through. In fact, that might be what makes it for me.

  • This is my second favorite version next to the Madison Scouts' version.

  • I offer for your consideration the version of Malaguena played by Nino Palacios, a world renowned guitarist from Paraguay. He starts it so slowly and sensually and then by about .55 he explodes into action that is wondeful to behold. Wish I had a video version to show you but if you do a search for Nino Palacios and Malaguena you will here it.

  • sounds like a banjo player from a bluegrass band

  • It's Roy Clark he means the amateur video quality

  • Too much strumming for my taste. Check out Liona Boyd's version.

  • Yeah! Charo played it more correctly! That's what my 70 year old guitar teacher said! Roy also uses a pick, THAT'S CHEATING! The only video worthy of being on youtube is the pne that features Charo! Oh wait, my guitar teacher said there's guitarists that play ths song way better than Charo... I GUESS CHARO'S A BUM TOO!

  • type in CHARO MALAGUENA and hear it played correctly. a student of Segovia,,,he said of Charo, she was the greatest natural talent he ever taught. Roy is great....Charo is better.. no wars please..thank you...

  • @JAYLEE169 sabicas!!

  • Like the legendary Chet Atkins once said, "if your gonna follow Roy Clark, you better be pretty damn good!" Roy is one of the best guitarists in the world and anybody who knows anything about music knows that. it doesn't matter what kind of music you like either. Roy's talent crosses musical lines. Brilliant is brilliant.

  • Cool playing, check out my version of Malaguena :P

  • sry my o and i have worn away so I have to resort to guessing :)

  • Roy Buchanan.

  • Is he playing a 12 string Ovation?

  • JOSE' FELICIANOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! NUMBER ONEEEE!!!

  • Roy is a showman par excellence. A master of many stringed instruments. Impressive performance demonstrating a versatility that few can model. Don't like it? Change channels & spare us all the pizzing contests, OK?!!! I don't care who anyone thinks is best, I just enjoy well performed music!

  • @juanp0421 punch in ""Charo Malaguena and hear how Segovia taught it. he said she was the most naturally gifted he ever had. thank you

  • I respect all artists.....but you cant tell me all your metal guitarists didnt get something from this....I just got done looking at two different EVH Eruption solos...and back in the day he had more soul than he did in 2007....but at one part of his performance I felt he was channeling Roys right hand.....just a thought....dont all you know it alls crucify me for my opinion...

  • At 5:04 - Roy's right hand to Roy's brain: "Uncle!"

  • Everyone and their cousin plays this piece. I have heard other interpretations in which I prefer. If I were to compare someone truly classically trained like segovia, presti, or lagoya I tend to prefer their versions a little better. Perhaps its the metal strings that seem to take something away from it or that it's a little too choppy.

  • I'm with IbanezDog. Roy was definitely a master in his day. Each one has their own interpretation and will attract a particular audience. Roy isn't my all-time favorite, but I do remember being in awe of his skills. One of the great guitarists.

  • 2:15 if you take the guitar from his lap it looks like he is playing with himself

  • Check out Jerry Yuzon on youtube. He doesn't even screw up his face, and has a nicer style than just beating the guitar to death.

  • Just stating the obvious, he's playing this on a 12 string. This is a "cover" or steel string improv. Not really comparible to anything on a nylon string or any classical guitarist. I'm surprised someone didn't just say "my guitar hero is better than Roy".

  • Jose vs Roy. It's apples and oranges. Think about it this way. I don't think Jose received acclaim for the violin or the banjo or the twelve string etc. He was a master at one style and one instrument where Roy was a master at many. Both were amazing musicians who interpret this song differently (the original composition is lost). They have great respect for one another and would be saddened by these comments.

  • @vibrateher69 if you would like to hear this great song played the RIGHT way, just type in Charo Malaguena. she studied un segovia. he said she was the greatest natural talent he had ever seen. Roy was great. Charo is better. thank you..

  • @JAYLEE169 Charo is not just better. Charo is hands down the best.

  • @whst400 i agree with you 100%. she is incredible. Roy Clark was a very multi talented guy,, but not the master of Malaguena. thanks for your reply..

  • @vibrateher69 Well said. If a listener doesn't appreciate a musical artist, a song, or the individual's own interpretation of a sone, why not just be quiet or simply state it doesn't appeal to them. People don't have to insult the artist's talent or their work. I've always hated someone to insult a musician's creativity by saying "that's not the way your supposed to play it." Maybe not every guitar player wants to be a copycat of another artist. Maybe they want to express music their own way.

  • @BadOakley STOP ... BALL SUCKER. READ THE BACK-GROUNDS DUMB ASS

  • what a shame when i see the hits all this so called musicians have out there and only a mere 238,000 for this masterfull performance from a great one Roy Clark!!!

  • @DJW2097 Now over 300,000!

  • Edgar Cruz and Jose Feliciano learned to play Malaguena from Roy Clark. Just kidding, but had to make a "Chuck norris-esque" joke there. :) I LOVE me some Roy!!!! I also love Feliciano but don't believe I've ever heard Edgar Cruz. At about 4:25 it gets really groovy! :)))))

  • @crazysingingchick Jose Feliciano plays Malaguena Classically with fingerstyle (not this ..... with horrible pick!) and plays this tune from he was 13 years old in 1958

His teacher was a college master from Segovia.

    So dont't say false information!

  • @Top100Guitarist Just kidding means I was not serious. It was only a joke.

Playing this with a pick is more difficult to do, so you should respect Roy Clark's talent in being able to do so. I respect Jose Feliciano's talent too! He's one of my favorites. I learned to play Malaguena with the fingerpicking style too, but not very good at it anymore.

But, really, there's no need to be angry when I was only joking! :)

  • Good, but not the master?really? are you KIDDING?have you heard AND Seen, the late Cuban-Blind composer Musician Jose Feliciano (plays it with one hand)?really, NelnetDude? you are sadly mistaken and sipma123 has CONFIRMED it. Adios!

  • amateur video? If so, then one of my very favorite amateur videos.

  • Holy smokes...say what you will...but he's playing on a 12 steel string guitar! That's pretty damned amazing to play Malaguena on a 12 string.

  • @terminalxs he is playing some sort of malaguena. listen to Charo Malaguens to hear it played the way it was written. be amazed at the difference. love Roy Clark, but Charo blow him away. she studied under Segovia..thank you

  • @terminalxs Malaguena is hard enough to play "beginner style" on a nylon 6-string, lol! So, yeah, on a 12 string is quite impressive!

  • listen to Charo - different styles - both great

  • I played the trumpet for many years in school. I played in a jazz ensemble as lead trumpet and I thought I was pretty darn good. Then I saw Roy in concert. He dazzled with the guitar, banjo fiddle and piano. Then he borrowed a trumpet from one of the guys in the band backing him up. He was fantastic! This man has never gotten the credit he deserves as a musician. As far as hearing guitar students play "Malaguena" better, put down the dope!!!!

  • @saltybutton I agree with you, Roy blew me away with a similar performance on HeeHaw. I was always a fan. I see banjo strumming combined with guitar to do a very unique take on a flamenco classic. Using a pick is far more limiting that fingerstyle but he jammed the hell out of it nonetheless.

  • @DaddyGrand414 Whoa - he WAS using a pick, wasn't he? Dang. That's very impressive!! I love all of his Hee Haw performances, especially when he would get silly during an awesome guitar or banjo piece (like the train song - forgot the name but he made the guitar sound like a train at one point I think). :)

  • I've heard guitar students play it better.

  • @LivingButDeadBand No you haven't. I call B.S.!

  • @Archermahly If you want to believe that, be my guess. That does not, however, change the fact that I have heard guitar students (in college, not little kids) play it better. Hell, if I dropped bass and took guitar as my primary, I could probably play it better this him.

  • @jackslicI100 why say ""yours truly, JAYLEE169 when your not?? stalking fag envy monger. TROLL

  • listen to Charo play this. Segovia said she was the greatest natural talent he ever saw. just hit Charo Malaguena.

  • sabicas

  • For my guitar playing friends...an introduction to Roy....

  • I like it when people find out he's the dude from Hee Haww! ( how ever you spell that shit), there all blown away! its like hey, who is the best

guitar shredder ? malmsteen, satriani, vai. No! the big dude from Hee Haww!

  • I agree..Roy Clark rules.

  • I agree..Roy Clark rules.

  • best malaguena interpretation ive ever heard :) beautiful

  • Carlos Montoya , Andres Segovia , even Charo play Malaguena and are considered great guitarists. Cant compare rock guitarists with flamenco guitarists , its like comapring apples and oranges - both are fruit but different types of fruit. Yes , Roy Clarke; Paul Mccartney, Eric Clapton, and whomever you think is good, but there were virtuosos who came before them who blew these folks away at specific types of music. There are many virtuosos.

  • Stop comparing all these great guitarists. Once you've achieved the status of "great", well you've nothing left to prove. Roy is great!

  • Chet Atkins did the best version of Malaguena ever recorded IMHO and yes Jose Feliciano did an amazing job but Chet..... NONE BETTER. < That is a period right there.

  • Roy is obviously an outstanding guitarists. but if you REALLY want to hear Malaguena, listen to Charo's 4min and 33 second version. Roy spends the first 1 minute of his version just strumming chords. listen to Charo do it right.
