So amazing! Charlie Chaplin, who originally composed this music, is one of my absolute favorite people. To have Josh Groban sing this, who happens to be one of my greatest role models, is spectacular. Sometimes I just love how beautifully things work out.
If I were to have a "man crush" this would be one of them. I'd love to have his voice and his talent, and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Just an all around good guy.

Groban's rendition is deeply affecting because he absolutely nails the "laughing on the outside, crying on the inside" feeling of the lyrics. He feels it himself. He communicates it to us.
A song like "Smile" demands tremendous emotional sensitivity, but is far less technically demanding than, say, Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love," or Mariah Carey's "Without You."

This music was composed by Chaplin, but WITHOUT LYRIC. It was also in his film: 'Modern Times' (1936). Later John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons wrote lyric to it (1954). Then Michael Jackson produced and performed it, and his version became the most famous. (1997) So it's absolutely not Josh Groban's nor Chaplin's creation.
