  • @pegcage ummmm...they haz mad skills son

  • @pegcage ...Amen !!!

  • @pegcage and really loud instruments.

  • Back when television shows actually showcased great artists doing what they do best.

  • Back when television shows actually showcased great artists doing what they do the best.

  • gee hes good.

  • Any idea what year this is? I'm guessing 1962-63.

  • @Buddawg1960 ... According to the video package, this video footage was taken in November or December of 1961. Incredible, aren't they ?

  • @Buddawg1960 p.s. Great guess on the date !!! Can tell you're a bluegrass buff !

  • There just isn't anyone better then or now.

  • Earl makes it look so easy! How does he do it?

  • The Flatt And Scruggs are my favorite bluegrass band.

  • Flatts and Scruggs ......

Nothing reminds me of dad more ......

Bluegrass music is one of my loves in life next to extremely fast or slow music

Bluegrass is always there's to remind u your just a lost boy in the woods of the unknown

  • Earl Scuggs. So boring to watch. So interesting to listen to.

  • @brelfan...Josh Graves. So interesting to listen to. So attractive to watch.

  • Whhoooeeee, that's some mighty fine pickin' and singin'

  • Authentic bluegrass, "Folk music on oversrive!" - however you describe it, Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mtn Boys truly set the standard in the 1960's!

  • Does anyone know the tuning Earl is using on "Ain't GWT" It sounds like C flat.... I'm trying to play it on a G tuned banjo but the sound doesn't correspond to Earl's fingering in the video....

  • @Buxton252 -- I know Earl used a D tuning fairly often. Plus I remember reading somewhere that they often tuned all their instruments up maybe half a note sharp just to give everything a little more edge. Maybe that comes out to the C flat that you are hearing.

  • @barbestervig I thought he was hammering on the third fret of the first string but it's the second fret. The tuning is open G with the fourth string tuned down a full note. Overall might be a touch sharp. Hard song to learn as there are a lot of beats per minute thrown in there.... I had to slow down an MP3 to about 10% to hear some of the notes.

  • It's tabbed in his banjo instruction book. They used to all tune ~1/2 step sharp for a brighter sound.

  • Did Earl ever smile ? I can't remember a clip where he ever changed his facial expression.lol

  • HEY everyone....Please stay on to watch "Home Sweet Home".....the 2nd song...it is BEAUTIFUL in more ways than one, & well-worth waiting for.

  • yep, I don't want to work tommorrow, but I gotta! They are my idols!

  • Im not sorry to say, that when theres electricity no more, no more will there be music but Of this kind!

  • This music is our( americas) heritage , from the carters connecting straight back to the 1800s at least just no way to record yet, just as good w or w out electricity, natural raw talent! American country music is the ORIGINAL BLUES of the world ! Everyone else simply copied there own version of it, english or african , thats where it all came from ! it all started right there in the mountains, then spread up north then out west

  • The finest Bluegrass Combo that ever existed .. in all of God's Creation. Thank whoever you want to .. but SOMEBODY or SOMETHING sure needs the gratitude sent their way .. for the fact that there are now 10 .. yes, 10 .. x 60 min. volumes of this wonderful band's Martha White Grand Ole Opry TV-Show Performances from the 50s & 60s available for us to buy for our own, on the Shenachie label.

  • @colindominy Amen ! These D.V.D. shows (Flatt & Scruggs) are fantabulous!

  • @CARROLLCTYDOBROGIRL : I'm with you !! Hey, your comments are great. CONGRATS !! You're getting quite a reputation, I think, around the traps on YT blugrass channels, for your most enlightening & mega-enthusiastic contributions .. especially concerning Lester, Earl & those fabulous Foggy Mountain Boys. P.S. - I ain't gay or nothin .. so don't get me wrong .. but you're dead-right .. Josh & his life-long good buddy Jake were both v. handsome men.

  • @colindominy Yes their music is icing on the cake....! You're the one with the

     best comments !

  • There's a whole bunch of interesting variations to Home Sweet Home in this video...great stuff!

  • One is so attractive, he could be a movie star**** . "Home Sweet Home is SO BEAUTIFUL the way they play it !

  • Great job of archiving some of the true american heroes!

  • Earl Scruggs still plays Home Sweet Home, now together with todays dobro master Jerry Douglas. It's on JDs album Glide.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Uncle Josh gets a stunningly beautiful sound playing "Home Sweet Home". I don't care how many majestic eagles are flying in the sky, no one is the FINE & top-notch dobro player Uncle Josh was.

  • Amen ! They were true bluegrass gentlemen. They're my favorite too!!!

  • Me too, Lester...me too!

  • That is Earl Scruggs at the prime of his life.

Making it look so easy. Just hear the tone coming from that banjo. All those picker in The Foggy MT. Boys are top notch. And Lester Flatt's voice is superb.

  • I wish my generations country music was even half as good as this. Great post!

  • Many many thanks for posting. Lester and Earl were the perfect bluegrass combination, great musical taste and flawless performance. Beautifully understated yet perfectly pitched there music in this genre has never been bettered.

Home Sweet Home...well, what can you say!

  • You know, a lot of 5 string banjo players can play super fast. But Earl proved on some of his slow pieces, like Home Sweet Home, that fast is not always best. I think he is tops on this.

  • @pegcage You know, that is about the smoothest 5 string banjo pickin' I've ever heard. And Home Sweet Home was pretty too. Mr. Scruggs, my hat is off to you.

  • @boblackey1 He is the Master; he also started the 3 finger style with Bill Monroe back in the mid 40's. And he is still touring and playing!

  • Thanks for the great songs. I ain't gonna work tomorrow kinda sums up my way of thinkin also ha ha

  • Good Old Music!!!

    Thanks for your posting!!!

  • Yes suh!

  • this is really great :)
