  • Makes me human again just listening to this after so many years. Man I miss those times. The days when music mattered and going to a great concert or getting the latest album of a great band really was worth looking forward to and expending the effort to get to the show on time.

  • Gentle Giant ! This is a typical song by one of the let say 5 best music artists/groups ever IMO. Such intelligent music and in the same time with a fantastic feeling, fantasy and equlibrism makes it unique. Top class instrumentalists as well. I have listened to the original LPs for decades now, I you cannot stop admiring Gentle Giant nor continue to aquire the taste...

  • I like this song...like 10 Gentle Album...eh eh eh - the opening was probably inspirate by a (paleo) videogame...or flipper... Fantastic - Time to Kill |o|

  • @wik1978 considering videogames were invented after this the song and progressive rock in general most definitly inspired them

  • Right :-D eh eh Who Knows....? :-D

  • @wik1978 It was Pong :-)

@underagepickle Pong came out in 1972 (but it was 1973 when it took off), this song was in 1975. So it's a close call, but GG definitely sampled (as in taped) the effect, in the same way they used the shattering glass on IAGH, the coin spin on Octopus & the camera click on Civilian :-)

  • @duncanparsons Don't forget the tape slow-down on the intro to "Working all Day" and the runaway tape speed-up at the ending of "The Face" and the subway SFX on "Underground".

While it's kinda boring, I always loved the ending of "A Reunion" with it's somewhat dissonant 2-note keyboard part - denoting a troubled mind in conflict - slowly becoming a single droning note fading out to represent a resolution of sorts.

  • It's unfortunate that when we speak of Gentle Giant, our comments must be relegated to past tense as they broke up many years ago. They left in their wake, a rich legacy of albums, each incredibly inventive and tasteful! That a band of this gigantic (sorry about the pun) talent could and would be relegated to the discount bins of record stores if they show at all, is such a sad commentary on our society at large! Kudos for you who posted Gentle Giant on Youtube!

  • not 9/8 9/4 the nine beats follow a quarter note pulse.

  • i'm 15, i'll buy all their vinyls(yes i have a turntable) and show them to my kids in 30 years, i wonder how they'll react.

  • @plpicher I'm 30 and I've been a big vinyl fan for about 15 years, which puts my discovery of vinyl back around your age. Every album I love, I have on vinyl, and I listen to them all the time. Vinyl is like crack young man, so be careful! LOL. Take care of your records and they'll take care of you. BTW, Gentle Giant vinyl is sometimes a little pricy, but well worth it. Start digging on ebay and look for some good "near mint" deals. Happy hunting in your listening career!

  • @johnnyribcage Thanks! and i'll be careful!

  • Nice photos. Hail to large 70's belt buckles!

  • I guess they are the only rock musicians who know what the word "counterpiont" means

  • @Hodideldiho Well I have no fucking idea what "counterpiont" means. Don't you mean "counterpoint"?

  • @jamma246

    Good piont

  • being a part of generation X kinda sucks.. i missed out on so many amazing bands

  • Nothing like good ol' disco... in 9/8...

  • @Xparrot75

technically its 9/4 because the beats work out like a measure of 4 then 5. or almost like 2 measures of 4 with an extra beat. Love the tube crunch on the bass!

  • 1:39!

  • Really, that is sad to hear that.

I have just learned of GG last year because no one bothered to play them on my radio anywhere. I live on the East Coast. I really like them alot!

  • First heard them in 73 This is one of their best. They had a bit of a folliowng in Detroit. They would usually be second on a bill and wind up blowing the top act off the stage.

  • They are kind of ridiculous.

  • @JackBlair2 And you r kind of shit...

  • @gojiberries1 Well, regarding radio play, I'd probably poop my pants if I heard The Giant on the radio! :D They're the kind of band you have to just kind of find on your own. I ran across them back around 2000 while digging deep for Jethro Tull/King Crimson-like material. I can see why these guys never made it big, but for me personally, they're hard to beat. They are as their album declared, an acquired taste for most people. Get everything up through Interview. Enjoy!

  • I can't find GG on vinyl anywhere!

  • I have this vinyl ! VEry good !

  • so funky!

  • Sfido chiunque, oggi, a concepire, comporre e suonare un pezzo come questo. Giù il cappello gente.

  • 'Listened to this LP until my stylus wore out. Yes, a turntable', and I still have it.

Please can we have them back.

  • One of their best song!...pure masterpiece!

  • wow this song is amazing.... love gentle giant! this is probebly one of my favorites of gentle giant... UGH SO GOOOD!

  • lol, the first sounds must be of the 'pong'-game, infamous first tele-electronic tennis game! remember? i did some killing time in front of the tube with that in the '70's!

great song from this band. i sure played them records for some killingtime those days too! ;)

  • Love it. Time To Kill actually got radio play in 76 on PBS in Detroit! JUDY ADAMS!

  • I love the jazzy sound that GG adopted with this album.

  • Pure!

  • Gentle Giant rocks! Thanks, Dimer.

  • Yes they did! Listened to this LP until my stylus wore out. Yes, a turntable...lol

  • @originalDimer

I think you might like a obscure english 80's rock band (who were fans of GG, Yes, Genesis). Try

IT BITES -- PEOPLE OF AMERICA

here on Youtube. This 'vinyl' upload is terrific. Thanks... Johnnnny
