  • WTF!!?!??!

  • That was so messed up...

  • The voice looks like daffy duck...

  • That must have sucked the shit out of the batteries, holy crap on a stick

  • For the record, the cinematic itself was amazing technology. I believe it took somewhere around 70% of the whole cartridge's data, and was extremely heavily compressed. The compression tech was actually capable of on-the-fly decoding, too, which is even more impressive. Keep in mind that they use similar codecs on DS games today (like KH 368/2 days) and those actually lag a little from decompression.

  • This gameboy colour game is one of the best (if not the best) gameboy colour games I have played. It translates very well from amiga or snes etc down to the little handheld gbc. It is a crying shame that a full gameply video isn't available on youtube yet. So if you do play it on GBC, do try to remember you are using a gameboy colour and then think about it. It is very rewarding.

  • enchanting

  • @lemurboy12 ya. It says it is a cinematic.

  • My ear just died

  • Mine doesnt work anymore :(

  • @AceOfTricks007 just replace the battery.

  • Anyone else expecting an HD 3D (with glasses, etc.) video?

  • considering the original game boy could do 3d graphics (see race drivin), I think the gbc is even more likely to do it considering it has twice the cpu power. there just were no games.

  • No its rendered to emulate 3D graphics, but is still really just 2D. Think of it like drawing a cube or a pyramid on a sheet of paper.

  • I'm surprised that the Game Boy did exploded when viewing this!

  • I have this game still GMC <3

  • here the author of BGB, the emulator that may have been used to produce this video. some answers to the speculation here:

    - this is GBC.

    - this is a prerendered movie

    - that rotating 3d scene is prerendered, too

    - the GBC can display so many colors at once by changing the palette between each scanline

    - the GBC has no "video modes"

    - this rom image is 4 MiB in size

    - the sound sucks because the wave channel is set to a wrong frequency so it plays each 32-sample block a bit more than once.

  • why the hell is this music that bad quality

  • Fack!

  • Gameboy colour? Wow!

  • lyrics:

WAR!! never been so much fun!

WAR!! never been so much fun!

WAR!! never been so much fun!

WAR!! never been so much fun!

    egh eh AAHHH!

    Well all right! Faggit!

WAR!! ober! RIGHT! BONER! RI- OH SHIT AAAAAAH! WAR! WAR! WAR!

  • If my GBC exploded I'd understand

  • wgghhhr! nvbrr bvnn sf mfch fbn!

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG if that what realy GBC, it pwns!

  • At least the PSP version is in full 3d but never released.

  • If you want a technical achievement on the GBC, look for Dragon's Lair. it's a complete port of the original laserdisc game.

  • gameplay isnt 3d only cut scenes and stuff.

  • well there's towers on gbc with a 3d opening

  • That just just the intro. I have "The Jungle Book : Mowgli's Wild Adventure", and it has an intro with graphics just like that, but the game itself, ofcourse, is not.

  • It seems there are more gbc games that have full motion video thgan nintendo 64. Whats up with that?

  • I think the best looking opening for GBA was Kingdom Hearts Chain Of Memories, its lots better then this one!

  • @DonSushi: Yeah brilliant... but you know that this game is from the GBC? The thing before the GBA? No? Look at the title...

  • but this is gbc. not gba.

  • GOOD WORK, SOLDIER!

  • the animation was pre-rendered and just played as a movie file, not in real time...

  • Well, yeah, but where else did you see something like that on the Game Boy?

  • Other games have done this. I don't own a GBA so I cant name them off the bat but I was just saying that that wasn't IN GAME it was just like a CGI movie they made for the game and played the movie in the game for like a intro before the menu screen or something.

  • This was a Game Boy Color game, not a GBA game. Just the fact that you mistook it for a GBA game makes it all the more impressive.

  • That was a typo that I noticed after I already clicked post. Sorry for not being perfect about hitting keys on a keyboard. I didn't post another reply because I thought people would be smart enough to tell that it was a typo. But don't worry, because I excuse your poor intelligence.

  • Yes, I'm sorry I made a logical mistake. That makes me legally retarded. Anyways, the whole point of it being impressive is the fact that it's CGI on the Game Boy Color (only very few games did that on the GBC).

  • Yes, it is impressive, but originally I was just trying to say that it wasn't as impressive as some people thought, because it isn't running in real time.

  • Sorry if I seem stupid but:

    C.G.I

    Computer

    Generated

    Images

Can you give me an example of a game that didn't use CGI?

  • Something that's not CGI is something that's rendered in real time. For example, all of the cutscenes in FFX are CGI, while the graphics in the game are not, because those are running off the power of the hardware, whereas the CGI graphics are in effect made for FMV.

  • @hellmelon666 almost every Nintendo 64 game.

  • @sonikku956

THE N64 IS A FUCKING COMPUTER YOU STUPID CUNT.

    WHY DOES NOBODY GET THIS...

  • @hellmelon666 ok, no need to curse. um, Banjo-Kazooie.

  • @sonikku956

    I'm sorry.

It's just that everyone keeps saying none of the old games have had cgi

    Computer Generated Images.

Even the most primary devices have computers in them.

The digits on your calculator are CGI.

Pre-rendered visuals on the other hand...

  • @hellmelon666 what like Donkey Kong Country?

  • @sonikku956

I've not played it, but if it looks pre-rendered then yes, like donkey kong country.

  • not gba. this is gbc.

  • Still, try doing this on an NES, which is what the GBC seems closest to in terms of hardware.

  • this is not gbc.

  • I HATED THE OPENING

  • That was full motion video. Almost any console can do it, depending on how much space teh cartridge has. If a console has poor graphics, then the video wuality will be bad.

  • the gbc had 3d support, but it only could render a cube or basic shapes but not that movie.

then the gba has a better 3d rendering used in various games and can use textures.

  • the pin was still in the grenade

  • I think this should be titles "real FMV", not "real 3D". Remember, Sonic 3D Blast had FMV on the Genesis, too...

  • IS THIS GAME REAL

  • those impressive 3d cut scenes are actualy animated/rendered.

this game finaly no longer makes anny use of ugly fm sound, for now it only takes advantage of the rare pcm sound, wich is just incredible.

it pushes the gbc over it,s absolute limmit.

  • Thats the GBC????? wholy crap

  • The soud sux but game is awesome !

  • "Never been so much WOW"

  • I bet this scene took up half the carts space

  • It'll only take up at tops, 1mb.

    Which is 1/4th.

  • lol some might say this is a BIT politically incorrect!

  • Yet people would be surprised to learn that the FMV's background music only makes up 10% of all the PCM audio in the game.

Also, there is a reason the audio quality is so crap, it sounds much better in GoldWave than the Game Boy Color, I hypothesize that the game is so busy with the FMV that the audio suffers.

  • Qft.

  • thats cool for an 8-bit handheld system

  • O_O AWESOME 8 BIT AND 3D O___O but the sound sucks >_>

  • What else could come of somebody with that username?

  • You can hear them sing "war has never been so much fun" during the intro

  • lol true XD

  • pre-rendered pre smendered! who cares! how many gbc games did that?

  • this is an amazingly fun game. ported from a great PC game it does well on the GBC. I was very surprised at what my li'l GBC was showing me when I popped my cart into it.

  • Wow :O

  • damn...thats nice for gameboy..never expected that last part lol

  • How the hell did they manage to stuff so good quality video in a gbc cart ????? 0___o

  • By making 3d models, making pictures of the individual movements and thus converting them to sprites.

Exactly how Rare did the graphics for DKC and Factor 5 did the cutscenes for Super Turrican 2.

  • that mustve pushed the gbc to the limits

  • That looks more like a playstation/N64 game then a GBC Game!

  • The GBC is 8-bit

  • This is not how the audio sounds on the real GBC. It sounds better than this. Most emulators can't emulate the audio properly.

  • I own the real thing, and it sounds just like this.

  • its not true, its pre-rendered.

  • scratch that: it's all pre-rendered, but sill, it's pretty impressive on what a GBC can do.

  • They raped the awesome opening song. ;-;

  • Cannon Fodder was awesome (not this one, I haven't tried it on GBC). My computer's too new to run it well on it's own.

  • It's pre-rendered.

  • omg O_O

  • looks better then anything in the sega genesis version except ingame,a 8bit that kick the hell out of a genesis colour wise.

  • Considering how small memory wise GBC carts are, it's a shocker they have enough room for an FMV, more or less for it to be a "small" part of the game.

  • there,re color tricks possible on gbc, using frame drop technic meaning that on the several frames the colors will be changed ,wich is not vissible for the viewer, thus generating a elussion of more colors onscreen.

  • It's pre-rendered, but I'm surprised about the colors the GBC can display.

  • yeah, no other games that i can recall had so many onscreen colors.

The console has quite a few different graphic modes that trade colors for "complexity" (number and size of sprites, backgrounds maybe?, don't quite remember what I read) but I didn't know it could be tweaked to that point.

    impressive.

  • Nah, that intro's all pre-rendered... the MENU is 3D and the game is 2D.

    And this is GBC, btw...

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • You mean that little rotatey scene right before the menu is real 3D, not prerendered? Holy shit, Codemasters are gods of the Game Boy Color! This is even better than all of those demoscene productions! 8(_____) That smiley was my jaw dropping in disbelief, in case you didn't know what that thing was.

  • Um... I think I should take back that last comment.
