I wish the vocals were easier to understand, like the original song, but the singer's voice and instrument choice fit the situation perfectly. A very melancholy reflective feel. This song epitomizes the conflict in Iji: is it really wrong for someone else to destroy us when no one would even care? Wouldn't we die, anyway? Why fight? Or does it really matter that no one would care? Why would that be a reason not to fight?
I just discovered the game yesterday, and I've been playing non-stop ever since (I did sleep though). Wow. The best indie game I've ever played. It's a AAA game in every way except graphics. You could sell it as-is on steam right now for $10 and I wouldn't complain. Wow wow wow.
I definitely like the original better mostly because I don't like this girls voice while Ronan's voice just strikes a chord with me. I think the alterations to the melody and beat do sound like they work perfectly for credits. I'm also a fan of the extra strings around 2:55
this is better than the original, voice-wise thou I have to say that I don't really care for the voice in VNV Nation's music, the lyrics is what they matter. however here both are perfect!
Haven't even played the game to know what's about or hear the original cover ,but this song just makes me sad in a beautiful way. It's just so...so depressing that makes me think of what life has to offer and can just take away from us when it wants to. Life never gives ,just borrows.
I don't care who doesn't like this cover, they're just stupid & close minded.
And I don't think they're even fans of VNV Nation either, they're just Hypocritical dip-wads who just talk smack cause they can without anyone knowing who they are, cause you know how much "Real" courage it takes to hide behind a comp-screen.
But anyway, I actually like LifeForce's cover of Further. it has a somber sound to it.
I don't understand why people are being so rude. This is a very good cover by some of the people of Machinae Supremacy for one of the best indie games I have ever played. It was an extremely wonderful song for the ending, and it's not like a freeware game is going to get the original licensed.
I love VNV nation, they are one of my favorite bands, but in my view this version is better. I don't expect everyone to like it but thinking VNV Nation is going to write a hate song is pretty ignorant.
This is one of the best covers i have ever heard.. I have heard this song countless times, I never thought a cover could make me connect with the feelings that the original song gave me... F****** GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I have a feeling that most of you who posted "this is shit" comments didn't even listen to the song in the context I posted it for. Matched against the game credits it suits it down to the ground. Play the game first!
I prefer this version as well. The voice spreads out the thought of never ending beauty without losing a word about it. A really special piece of music...
I just finished Iji... after checking out the VNV Nation original I find I prefer this cover - as Rakk said it's smoother and the feeling of the song matches better with the lyrics.
Only a few days, and it already feels like an eternity.
The sad truth is that none of this will matter. Nobody will ever know that this had meaning for us. Since a day is an eternity for us, it will only take weeks for us to forget who we were.

This and LoTR's "Into the West" are the two saddest songs I've heard. Love this so much.

This cover is much more meloncoly and depressing than the original. The sound and the vocals suit the ending credits of Iji very well.

Even better than the original

This is a great example of when games have awesome songs at the end. Another example would be the much more upbeat "Still Alive", ending Portal.
Awesome song!

The moment the beat comes and then the vocal... Gives me creeps everytime. Marvelous track.

@boulie22, thumbs up buddy. Score one for people reading other comments, and acting on them before posting.

I have played this game because of you and I really liked it!
I agree that this song really suits the ending of Iji.
Though I personally favor the original I really like the violins in this one.

I feel the words are a little lost in the "music" on this one.
[Speech marks because it's more of a simple beat than anything else.]
The voice is nice , but imo it lacks the power that the original held over me.

They absolutely butchered this song. I wish I never heard this pile of shit.
VNV Nation should right a song about horrible covers on which they forgive those responsible. =)

Further by VNV rules. This cover is horrible.

@santo4600 your entitled to your oppinion i suppose, but personally I prefer this version. Its smoother, and the woman has a nicer voice.
RAKKTMB 1 year ago 21
@RAKKTMB I agree, plus her voice seems to make it a bit eerie.
rsbcjester 5 months ago
@santo4600 Agreed. If you compare singing to acting, we would call this a "wooden" performance.
Schools of singing and acting should be merged IMO, just so singers can learn how to get the emotions right.
