What can I say about this beautiful movie? It's very overlooked and underrated classic of the 80's. Chuck Norris was stunning. Other actors/actresses did a great job too.

I hear you, it's very simplistic but the movie is based on a true story, except that in real life the bad guys got away with it and the American rescue was aborted. I think a SEAL team was going to do rescue before it was aborted, it wasn't even Delta Force.
The bad guys didn't get away with it.And the navy was unable to interfere as the bad guys had plenty of anti air to deal with f-14s a few months after Iran released those hostages as they needed our(American) F-14s to deal with an invading Saddams iraqi army which led to iran iraq war 1981-1984.Iranians where one scary asses doing mistake.Navy SEALS never dared to do such Ops that Army Spec ops could do like DELTA FORCE
When this film was being made Beckwith was consulted and when they told him they'd change the ending he felt was deflated because as he said "that's not what happened". In reality, Delta was no able to even begin the rescue operation. Most of the hostages were freed after a ransom was paid. They bad guys kept all the Jewish passengers, transported them to Uganda (I think) and later released them after another ransom was paid.
The Iran-Iraq War actually lasted from '80 to '88.
The real guys of SFODD and Charlie Beckwith almost pulled off Eagle Claw. Even with it ended the way it did, the DOD learned a lot. A good deal of our helo crews can do low level penetration in bad weather or night, they can do IFR in the same conditions and they have purpose built machines like the various H60s and the new retired MH-53Js. The H53 Echos are taught IFR as stanard practice now. We learned a lot from Charlie Beckwith and that mission. Wish they would make a movie about that.
Unfortunately they did, believe me, I know my history. Eagle Claw didn't almost happen, they got as far as into Iran but the choppers were not equipped to fly desert missions. A few brave men lost their lives that day. This other rescue the movie depicts is fictional.
Don't put the SEALS down, they kick ass too! But my heart goes to Delta.

Delta Force is rather cartoonish and far-fetched in many ways, yet ever spectacular and unfazed Chuck Norris really knows how to put on this awesome show just like the fearsome, indomitable Irish warrior he is!!! For the fact that his character's name, McCoy, is especially symbolic and quite appropriate, proving, despite the fact it's only this movie, that those of Irish and Scottish ancestry are still the most highly regarded soldiers on Earth even, in the late 20th century! I hear you, it's very simplistic but the movie is based on a true story, except that in real life the bad guys got away with it and the American rescue was aborted. I think a SEAL team was going to do rescue before it was aborted, it wasn't even Delta Force.

The bad guys didn't get away with it.And the navy was unable to interfere as the bad guys had plenty of anti air to deal with f-14s a few months after Iran released those hostages as they needed our(American) F-14s to deal with an invading Saddams iraqi army which led to iran iraq war 1981-1984.Iranians where one scary asses doing mistake.Navy SEALS never dared to do such Ops that Army Spec ops could do like DELTA FORCE

When this film was being made Beckwith was consulted and when they told him they'd change the ending he felt was deflated because as he said "that's not what happened". In reality, Delta was no able to even begin the rescue operation. Most of the hostages were freed after a ransom was paid. They bad guys kept all the Jewish passengers, transported them to Uganda (I think) and later released them after another ransom was paid.
The Iran-Iraq War actually lasted from '80 to '88.

The real guys of SFODD and Charlie Beckwith almost pulled off Eagle Claw. Even with it ended the way it did, the DOD learned a lot. A good deal of our helo crews can do low level penetration in bad weather or night, they can do IFR in the same conditions and they have purpose built machines like the various H60s and the new retired MH-53Js. The H53 Echos are taught IFR as stanard practice now. We learned a lot from Charlie Beckwith and that mission. Wish they would make a movie about that.

Unfortunately they did, believe me, I know my history. Eagle Claw didn't almost happen, they got as far as into Iran but the choppers were not equipped to fly desert missions. A few brave men lost their lives that day. This other rescue the movie depicts is fictional.
Don't put the SEALS down, they kick ass too! But my heart goes to Delta.
