I think it was in the late 70s I started calling in Well to work. I got the idea from a Joseph Heller novel called Something Happened. Instead of calling in Sick, you would say "I've been feeling pretty ill the last few years, but I feel really good today, so I won't be coming into work."
My employers were not amused.
Everyday I felt like screaming like the carrot a dozen times a day. Corporate work is weird. Corporate work in a city is unbearable.
I used to do that until my friends started locking their doors, Now I just stand in front of my clients and do it to their face instead. It does shut them up for a moment. Then they ask me if I'm ok, and I tell them, "in a minute."

BOB: Thanks Peter! Frank and I love your story.
FRANK: Yes Bob always says there's nothing like little hysteria to top off your day.
