I used to listen to this song over and over and over in 1986 when I graduated HS/boarding school and had to say good-bye to my best friends whom I adored. Great memories. I was the biggest Genesis/Phil fan for year and years. Still love their music. I haven't listened to this song in over 15 years but after hearing it now I was able to sing along with all the words. That's shows you how much I listened to it! LOVE!

From March 2010 to now, October 2011, I have come from a very painful separation from a wife of 9 yrs, been with her for 15 yrs, broke, nothing but the clothes on my back, jobless, then this song comes and has been one of my driving forces. Since then I have moved to another city, obtained a medical billing certificate, got a great job with great pay, and a beautiful girlfriend who loves me unconditionally. To those who lost, listen to Phil, there IS life across the cross...IT DOES GET BETTER!
I always enjoy the behind-the-scenes footage from the tours - particularly of the "classic" artists and groups such as Phil Collins, Genesis, Tina Turner, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Elton John, and countless others. It makes you appreciate the cash you paid for the ticket - they truly earn that money! They clearly love performing, but the travel and performances are exhausting to be sure! And this is one of my fave Phil songs - thanks for posting!
This song reminds me of a road trip I took in my parents' 84 Toyota Van in the summer of 1990, from New Jersey to Chicago. This song was playing at about 1 or 2 am somewhere in Indiana on I-80, and I've never heard it anywhere else since. It really struck a chord with me.
This was the best song on No Jacket Required (a very good album), and it was an afterthought. As I recall, it was only included (on the US version) as a bonus track on the CD.
