  • Bravo~Lang Lang

    He is my idol~

  • No words...just enjoy !

  • His bodily expression is what makes Lang Lang such a unique musician. He's combining performance arts with music. But if you dont like his performance arts, just close your eyes and listen.

  • The correct title is "Träumerei"

  • Lang Lang's expressions aren't meant funny

it show's that he really understand and feel the music he's playing.

I mean I dont laugh about expressions of actors who fit their role perfectly o_O

  • is it me or did mr lang lang drop acid before this show

  • Give me Horowitz any day!

  • To be honest, If my professor caught me doing this much emotion, which in my opinion is a bit over the top, she would blatantly tell me to stop and yell. Sure his playing is phenomenal and he has a fantastic gift, wow I shouldn't complain because he is playing at Carnegie.

  • Worst pianist ever. Cure your constipation first before ever on stage

  • @JusufJan

Close your eyes and he's pretty damn good to put it mildly, open them and it is indeed like a commercial for some sort of rectal discomfort.

  • All the comments in Lang Lang videos use difficult words...

  • I love his facial expression!! That make him unique!! Very Very nice playing and amazing pianist! That is no doubt!..... Why there are so many haters???

  • Not to say it's wrong or bad, but the way he takes so much liberty with the timing and rhythm makes it distracting. A piano student who does this will most definitely earn the ire of his piano teacher.

  • ooohhhh fishy fishy fishy fishshshshsh

  • I cant see any microphone. It is just the piano (?)

  • @HTSITYS There is usually a hidden mic, either on the stage, hanging from above, or inside the piano itself.

  • why are there so many dislikes? it's them hipsters who prefer li yundi. THEY'RE BOTH BRILLIANT

  • i really don't understand why some people who listen to this stuff hate artistic expression...

  • I played this one year ago - nice piece!!

  • Although i hate his bloody facial expression, this is one of the best Traumerei in the world.

  • @harry95224

    Agree exactly

  • I have just listened to 7 pianists that played this piece, after many comparasion, I felt Lang Lang is the best who play this piece, may be that is because my interpretation is too close to him?

  • asinine performance. the extra hand movements are detracting from the piece (i can't say he doesn't have talent but the atmosphere he gives off is just a turn off from the song...) if it were only the music i might have enjoyed it more

  • starts at 0:50

  • This piece reminds me of that Selena song

  • I'm not a Lang Lang hater, but it's clear that Horowitz gets so much more from this piece, and without looking like he's going to jizz on the piano. Expression is a wonderful thing, but when your emotional interpretations get the best of a piece that speaks volumes with so few notes & simply doesn't REQUIRE the extra fluff, you get an over-emotional execution, much like the one we see here.

  • @Sexican I guess comparisons with Horowitz are completely hors sujet, and looking at pianists during performances in order to judge their performance is totally inappropriate. Even though I agree that Horowitz does this better. But you've never heard HIM as a mid-twen, have you? Apart from my personal impression that this emotion is too sacred to be scolded, just give Lang Lang some sixty years before you talk about Horowitz again.

  • @NaegaJayo

How is looking at someone to judge a performance inappropriate? Figuratively, people listen with both their eyes AND ears. This composition case in point; It wouldn't be an overbearing task to replicate the sound/style of this interpretation without physically over-indulging in emotional arrogance, and I guarantee more people would take you seriously and enjoy listening to your music and watching your performances.

  • @Sexican

He's amazing and I see Chrism's point but the fact part of you is captivated by this incredible talent and piece and the rest is bent over double laughing at his grid isn't really a good thing is it? Every piece he plays it's like "I'm so good I'd wank me off and you should too". Still like I say, what I'd give for even a hundredth of his talent!

  • @RafaElGaffer Most people either love or hate the guy, and it's because of the over-indulgence, arrogance and unwarranted liberties he takes in everything he plays. That's not to say he's not talented, but clearly the arrogance takes away from the music for many listeners. The whole LOOK AT ME complex is extremely off putting, especially for an artist who can create equally beautiful music without oozing ego all over the stage. These performances are about Lang Lang, not the music.

  • @Sexican it seems to be a growing process for all pianists, that they tend to over-express

but then gets humble as they advance. Look at Lang Lang's more recent performances and you will find he plays more humble; the fruit ripe with age so to speak.

  • I got to admit it... The monkey finally made me cry.

  • What a bunch of envious pieces of garbage here!

  • His technical skill is perfect. However I feel his emotion in it is quite affected.

  • this composition is actually named Träumerei(reverie), not Taumerei

  • if he didn't make these stupid fucking faces, or rather if you just listen to his playing for a minute instead of watching him, you'd notice very quickly that he is infact a simply brilliant pianist

  • Everyone is different. Even we see a same object, we understand differently. How about this such emotional piece? How can we feel the same? There is no better or worse, but different.

  • @PIANOlSM Thanks to you Dalai Lama with a different you tube Name, but i can't agree. This is showmanship in a cheap way, independent of his technical behavior. Peace for you and all of us.

  • @Fastallesversteher Saw your posts. Humbly agree!

  • Lang Lang played this piece beautifully. I understand what you say about his facial expressions and so forth, but that does not mean anything. This is how he feels about the piece.

  • He destroyes this masterpiece. Compare it with horowitz`s version Moscow 1986 and you must agree

  • He has effeminate hands.

  • He'd be better of wearing a burqa while playing...

  • One of the best interpretations I've listened. Impecable. One can feel a higher degree of consciousness in his performances.

  • Изумительно!!!

  • agonizingly slow

  • I've listened to about 20 versions of this on YouTube, including many top artists. This performance is far and away the best, in my opinion. This was one of my favorite encores when I performed. To play this work the way Maestro Lang does requires an incredible amount of talent. This is absolutely perfect on all levels.

To those who criticize his facial expressions, they are that of an artist "getting into" the work. If they bother you, you might shut your eyes and simply listen.

  • why the fuck are people always talking about how makes this expression or that expression??

Its not just this video of lang lang, but most of them, its just immature, if you know how to appreciate music then you use your ears not your friggin eyes.

Music isn't about the outward appearance !

just listen to the beautiful music he plays for us and stop complaining about his face. fuck

  • @LOLittleHero Who appointed you the boss, you jackass cunt. Go take your opinions and shove them up your well-laid ass.

  • for lang lang, you should never look at his face when trying to enjoy his music, lol

  • @mathieuemi666

    actually it is -> Träumerei.

but you might also write Traeumerei if there is no "ä" in your keypad.

sorry for my bad english, i'm from germany.

  • you can even write it (in fact you must):

    Traümerei

  • tRaumerei Trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraumerei Trrr Trr Traumerei

    Traum = dream

    Can you correct that?

  • people are so used to seeing things in order to judge them. guess what. this is a concert, not a movie.

if all that deal with "drawing everyones attention by overacting everything" is ruining this interpretation for you, then thats too bad, because you are obviously not HEARING. who gives a damn if hes an egocentric prick or not, or if you like him or not?? the fact remains that this performance is breathtakingly beautiful. its the music that matters, not what he does while playing it...

  • His expressions don't bother me. I like his personality, he's a cool guy. I just think that he's a little overrated in comparison to some other people who are less famous, but far better, such as Alfred Brendel and Marc Andre Hamelin.

  • Unbelievable! Lang Lang plays slower than Li Yundi!!!

  • does this count as an audition piece for juilliard?

  • @breekwhal if you don't want to get in, yes

  • @breekwhal it depends on what els you play

  • who cares how he looks when he plays , if you can play like that you can make whatever face you damn want.

  • You have to listen to lang lang. Watching him is irrelevant.

  • Breathtaking interpretation.

  • 聽不出味道,耳朵正常後再聽

  • Lang Lang is a joke, this is sad to say, but it is the truth.

  • @100nidp your existence is a joke. sad to say but it's the truth

  • Why the hell are all of Lang Lang's videos so discussed? Shut your bloody mouth, close your eyes and listen!

It's not his god damn facial expressions that matter, it's the music!

    Thank you very much!

  • tip:

whenever you click on anything here in youtube that has "Lang Lang" in the title, close your eyes, listen, and you might actually like it!! otherwise you will get a visual circus that might just steal away the true beauty of what hes playing!!

  • Horowitz, please. 10 times the sound, 20 times the emotion and none of the stupid expressions.

I understand people making faces involuntarily when they are deeply involved in the music but that is not what's going on here. This is an encore, and Lang Lang could play this with his eyes closed! What is the damn need for purposely trying to conjure emotions that the music is already taking care of? It seems very pretentious; as if he's trying to convince us he's uber-romantic. Bah!

  • I have played in the band when I was younger, and I can tell you that the expressions he is making is because he is feeling the music as he plays it. His style is his own, and whether you feel he should be playing this one way or another, then that is your choice. I think he does a marvelous job with this piece. Just as the others have their style. Sometimes it really takes a reach for someone to feel the music as it IS PLAYED. Perhaps you don't see that. Oh well, your loss.

  • Lang Lang is the Justin Bieber of classical music.

  • @borjon23 I dont agree with you. I dont think you can compare classical music with modern music. Classical music took genius to write. Modern music just takes someone who can rhyme words. As far as im concerned, Justin Bieber and all the random junkie singers that came before him are each as untalented as the next. Anyone can jump around on stage and call themselves a musician. Classical music is in a category of its own, and Lang Lang dominates the field.

  • @jemokjemok

    You missed the point, padre.

  • @jemokjemok ur comment was good until ur last sentence

  • @jemokjemok PLz don't generalize like this. Loads of classical music are also crap. Still i don't generalize classical music as crap. You can say what you want to say in a much more nice and accurate way.

  • he looks arrogant...

i have all those pumping goose all over me when i listened to Yundi Li

but i have no feeling at all with Lang Lang's version...

  • @takashiv12 You obviously haven't seen arrogance in your life, or you've got some issues. Agree on the Yundi Li part though.

  • can't beat horowtiz's D:

as much as a i like this

horowtiz's is heavy of emotions @_@ i can't get that same feeling when i listen to this one >_<

  • his face expressions are so funny !

    but still he's a great player :)

  • I've listened to may Traumerei renditions on Youtube.....and touch for touch, tone for tone, legato line for legato line Lang Lang sings most for my heart and ears and soul. Bless his effervescent heart! John-Hans Melcher

  • wow. holy buckets. his touch on the piano is absolutely amazing. i can't believe the incredible dynamics he can play in.

  • ...........so its Lang Lang that has the ability to make the blind cry. Amazing.

  • @thethinker133 Make the blind cry? lol wtf does that even mean?

  • Who is the best Traumerei player among Horowitz, Lang Lang and Yundi Li? Unfortunately, it seems Yundi Li is the best, then Lang Lang, and then Horowitz, in my opinion.

  • i recently saw this lang lang play

he is really good , not that bad like people say

    entertainer and a note sprinter

compare to kissin , Vasary , Grimaud I saw last year lang lang sounds less full and touchy

But still he is the man now , you now it from the ticket price 65 euro

  • dont like this interpretation

  • He thinks he is Horowitz ha ha :D No matter how big his eyes, his plaing of this piece is BAD - for someone who is acclaimed as a GREAT pianist.

check out my Träumerei to know how this piece should be played!!!

    I MEAN THIS SERIOUSLY!

And shoot me dead if my playing is worse than his!

  • @001fatalerror You DO play very well, truly a great interpretation of the piece. I normally don't like LangLang, but his performance here was gentle and nice in its own way, not BAD.... but I do think your performance is more of what it should be...I also like Horowitz's version, if it could be slowed down a bit...

  • @GMoralesRCflight thanx! Yes I agree his performance is "gentle & nice" - but this is all... in my opinion :) "BAD" was a wrong word choice, of course - for people who listen mostly to kids playing on youtube and adore lang lang for his virtuosity this sounds as an insult! lol Unfortunately, only few have really good taste ;-) And Träumerei is definitely a piece that shows that Lang Lang CANNOT play this properly - in my understanding of the word 'play', of course!

  • @001fatalerror well, he's playing at carnegie hall and has 119896 views in THIS video that someone who's NOT HIM posted. you have 811 views, a pic video and a horowitz imitation, so... how on earth can you compare yourself to him? (and i don't even like him)

  • Come on guys. This is the music we're enjoying, not his facial expressions! Just turn your volume all the way up and screen off! Simple!

  • @hypercool0wy aye, I'd rather he make odd expressions and play as magnificently as he does, than he keep a straight face and lose that magic =(

  • I have a brilliant idea! How about everybody listen to the music instead of watching this guys every facial expression!

My my it's beautiful is it not?

  • Lang Lang completely gets the intention of the composer - I know this. He understands exactly what Heir Schumann meant to say - and says it perfectly. There is nothing more to say. He is perfect.

  • @serendipity123123 Are you Robert Schumann?

  • @ilikehaku1100 I think it is fascinating that you ask that question. What makes you ask that question?

  • @serendipity123123 Its a compliment. Robert Schuman himself, who wrote it can`t play it better

  • @FireballHikari - OK. To answer your original question - yes, thank you.

  • @serendipity123123 Your comment made it look like you know Schumann on a personal level

  • @ilikehaku1100

I was indeed Robert Schumann. You are correct. Very perceptive of you to see that. thank you

  • His inane expressions really piss me off.

  • @pianor91 Agreed! The guy plays fantastic, he's just a tool though.

  • @pianor91 then dont watch LANG LANG everyone knows he does facial expresions which are odd maybe that is why he is known i think there are lot mor pianists who have more talent and dont do funny expressions

  • @pianor91 yet there he is playing at Carnegie hall.

  • Comment removed

  • @pianor91 I'll bet they do....Too bad

  • @pianor91

His insane expressions are the reason why you're sitting infront of the PC and do listening to him, while he is one of the best and famouse pianist on earth ;)

  • @pianor91 You suppose to listen with your ears... not eyes...

  • @pianor91 your inane comments really piss me off.

  • @pianor91 Why do people care about his aperence ??? it is his own way to feel the music!

  • @pianor91

And your inane comments have the very same effect on me. Would you rather he just sat there deadpan, uninvolved, and musically wooden? Why can't you just enjoy his performance, which comes from his very soul. Perhaps it's because you don't have one yourself. (?)

  • This is too much 'made'. It's very good, obviously, I can't play a note that well, but Horowitz, in his 80-ties, is more authentical, more real... I think.

  • You don't hear with your eyes, just listen and enjoy the music.

  • Yea... majority of the people in this world are retarded. If you think Lang Lang is doing something wrong, i invited you to look at your own life. You work at a piece of shit company doing a piece of shit job. Your life is one failure after another. But you know better than Lang Lang right? He only makes 5 times your salary doing something he is good at and enjoys.

  • pussy face

  • Feeling something is really what music is all about! Great artist!

  • is he jizzing..? o_O

  • Des Künstlers Beruf: Licht senden in die Tiefe des menschlichen Herzens.

  • Lang Lang is in his own world. A world which most of us might never comprehend. To compare his face to "about to cum" is nothing but an insult to this artist.

Surely, people have compared Picasso's paintings to mixtures of excretions?

  • @aden0724 it's called a musical orgasm/ecstacy

  • i want to be the hell out of this loser for taking a piece meant to be played with the innocence of children and turning it into a perverted "ohhh, I'm cumming" look on his face. go to about 1:20 to see what i mean. if i had a bat and would beat him down with it. the acting is disturbing.

  • @philaboston Thats a bit harsh. DO you honestly have proof he is acting?

  • Sounds contrived to me, and his facial expressions seem to substantiate that. I think he's try to convey the wrong emotions too. Sounds like he's saying the piece should be sad, but I think it should have a sense of reminiscence and relief, as opposed to the dying mood he conveys with his tempo. On that note, he also takes WAY too much time in places he shouldn't be IMHO.

If this piece were a lit candle, it would have a bright flame - Lang-Lang just about snuffs it out here.

  • I think Lang Lang is much too decorative with his hands when he plays... watch 1: 17 and 1:37 really are those necessary...I must say Horowitz playing this in Moscow is way better...nothing against Lang Lang but Horowitz keeps it simple but still so so so so full of expression

  • Comment removed

  • I think Lang Lang's performance is better than Yundi Li this time.

  • There is a point between being emotionally involved with a song and being obnoxious with expressionism, and Lang Lang, sorry to say, has crossed that point.

  • @TMusic5 It's hard being a genius when all people do is critisize you and don't enjoy the music. Agree?

  • @1Lisztener1 To a certain point. But perhaps you and I have opposing definitions of what it means to be "genius." Lang Lang is phenomenally talented and extraordinarily gifted, but I would've classify him along with the true geniuses of music like Chopin, Schumann, Haydn, Beethoven, Bach, etc. To create something from nothing, or near nothing, is true genius. Playing something created by a genius, while requiring incredible skill, does not necessarily make one a genius.

  • @TMusic5 Excellent. People throw around 'genius' like it is something common. Genius is rare and Schumann was a genius for creating such a gentle piece about a child's innocent. Lang Lang just played it and he did so with a grotesque "i'm cumming" look on his face to show the world that he is feeling the music. BS! He sucks.

  • @philaboston Couldn't have said it better myself! Exactly!

  • @philaboston So you think all those people in the audience who bought their tickets are wrong? Now that you clearly stated your dislike for his facial expressions, what do you think about his piano playing?

  • @Ianthe22 He sucks compared to Jung Lin. If your question is "is Lang Lang good?", well, of course he is good. But he is not a master, no where near it, and he needs to takes some lessons from Jung Lin and wipe that fake smirk off his face when he plays. Its fake. I do not say this about other pianists, but i say this about him because he sucks.

  • @philaboston Jung Lin the female pianist? Weren't you talking about Yundi Li? Tbh i think Jung Lin on the other hand sucks. Her interpretations are so dry and boring. The total opposite of Lang Lang. But don't understand why you jump from Yundi Li to Jung Lin. Two completely different styles.

  • @Ianthe22 Dude, what are you talking about? I was complaining about Lang Lang. I dont give a crap about Yundi Li. I like Jung Lin. Who cares what i think and what you think anyways. If you like it, listen. if you dont like it, dont listen. I stumbled onto Lang Lang after hearing Horowitz interpretation of Taumerei (which was brilliant). Horowitz was so humble during his play. Lang Lang pissed me off with his stupid facial impressions. I'm bored with your elitism.

  • @philaboston elitetism? LAL. Ahh, sry the Yundi Li comment was written by another one. Yeah well, It's your taste and you are entitled to it. I don't mind his facial expressions. And Jung Lin's dry style isn't even close to this guys playing. She's pretty though...

  • @Ianthe22 she is pretty. i think she is from Tawain. I liked her rendition of Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor. go to: watch?v=XSHQEPVYUMk

However, it seemd a little fast, but not sure. i really like her 'madman' interpretation at 3:44. Thanks

  • compare it to Horowitz version and ask yourself which is better

  • He is the best. He plays more gentle and beautiful than others.

  • This piece is not hard, but to let people feel the music is very very difficult. i play it very well, but i don't feel anything when i play it. This piece is very deep to understand and to express.

  • @Turnv4ter

Just close your eyes and listen. The way he lets the first chords fall open is so gentle, so perfect. He has a very soft touch for this piece, and he's very talented. You don't listen with your eyes, dear.

  • i prefer this song in yundi li's version.

  • The only thing that ruins this video are the ignorant comments left by people too preoccupied with what he looks like to realize his expressions are an inextricable component of his beautiful playing, and that, in itself, is beautiful.

  • i've got youtube and pc volumes to the max - can barely hear it. applause is loud.

  • Yundi li did a better cover i reckon =)

Langlang plays it good... but the face expression just destroy the beauty of the music..

very nicely done.. but what a shame.. :|

  • Good job Lang Lang

  • I like Horowitz's version much better!

  • This is Lang Lang in his element, when he is at his best - playing with feeling, sensitivity, and control ... and not banging around with eye-popping, vomit-worthy show for the sake of showiness (while missing the point half the time). I like this interpretation, however, and I'm by far not anywhere close to being a Bang Bang fan. Thank you for this video. This is a one up for Lang Lang.

  • Genius!

    was this an encore?

  • too much enphasys in pathos. compared to Horowitz this one is coma not dream.

  • Look at his expression at 1:21 He just came in his pants. Sorry, but this guy sucks so badly. I hate when crappy musicians compensate for their crappy talents by overexaggerating their facial expressions to show how much they care and are in tune with the music. NOT!

  • Quien me recomendó este video toca muy bien el piano Saludos @magah55

  • jemokjemok

    everybody is able to judge

  • @Turnv4ter: no, YOU pay more attention to his movements than his music. Ive played piano for 15 years, and i can hear the music. You are not qualified to judge his performance.

  • was it after libestraume ?

  • horowitz is better i must admit. But too bad all hes still better than everyone here thats flaming him. LOLUMAD?

  • this sucks. watch horowitz in his 1986 concert. lang lang thinks that by showing the "i am cumming" face while he plays the song means that he is a good performer. sorry, but this song is about the peace of a child's innocent daydream that horowitz was able to capture with his pain and wisdom. i just want to beat the hell out of lang lang. this sucks big time.

  • @philaboston To be fair, I'm currently 18, learning Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and the first time I heard Horowitz's '86 performance of this one-page, sightreadable piece, I couldn't bring myself to touch a piano for the rest of the day. I mean, it just seemed pointless. First and last time a performance ever had that effect.

This piece (as well as this cycle, I think) can't be done right by young people. Playing it will be my reward to look forward to when I turn 50.

  • A POETIC and SPIRITUAL performance of a MASTER!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • horowitz.

  • much soul few spirit

  • I don´t like him, but this was played fantastically...

  • Lang Lang is very musical, and he doesn't play this too badly. But I'm sorry; a young, energetic pianist can't interpret this piece the way Horowitz did in 1986 in Moscow, when he was only a few years from death. For an elderly Horowitz, this piece was everything - longing, reminiscence, fondness, regret, sadness, loss, and reconciliation. For Lang Lang? It's just a pretty piece.

  • i seem to be the only one but i have to admit that i can't get touche by his playing, i can't feel with it. I'm often missing something in lang lang's performances, but he his still a very great pianist.

  • Once people like him Goethe or Schiller represent my country :)

However today it looks really bad. :(

Lang Lang really know what he do. So thumps up for him. Nice to listen to it. :)
