I feel sorry for those poor saps who saw the prequel series first and so think that this battle is "awesome" for the special effects, and have no idea that it actually blows because it has no emotional value whatsoever. It seems that those who watch the prequels before the originals really never understand that the story and the characters in the originals were what were truly special about them, and that the special effects were just there as enhancements.

As for why people detest the sequels, it's because they've got little in the way of a coherent story or memorable, likable characters. The plot is holed through and through, and the characters are bland. The prequel series was just a chance for Lucas to shove in as much digitally-produced garbage as he could. That was the main focus. And it doesn't make a movie on its own. Far from it.

@lonesoldier33 I think the idea is that all the war ships literally came out of hyper-space within those few seconds (That would be an epic though anyway XD). If I was going to add something to this scene I'd make it so that beneath the big clone ship once we're speeding up along side it, we see many flashes of bright white/blue light like lightning glowing from over the ships brow. This would be from all the ships arriving. lol

@kongstarrr It's a SPHA-T. (Self Propelled Heavy Artillery- Turbolaser; the Artillery Walker seen near the end of Episode II). If you read the Expanded Universe; At the suggestion of Anakin Skywalker, they were placed in the ventral hanger bay to protect the ship when it's open.

Otherwise, if you want other than FPS, Look at Sins of a Solar Empire. That is a large Space RTS, and tons of units. Sadly, without a mod that is now out of date they don't fly around whilst fighting (Fighters and bombers do, but they're usually not your main force). May be worth looking into.

You could also try SW:BF2. It is out, SW:BF3 is just the unannounced sequel many wait for.

Personaly, I grew up between the old and the new, but I enjoyed the new ones better. (We all agree the only reason worth watching the second one is for the kamino scenes and geonosis, and of course Dex;) However The first one. Are you REALLY going to say that the droid army vs gungans, and darth maul's epic revealing of his double bladed lightsaber did NOT alone merit it as a good movie? Many good scenes in episode 1 as a whole. Episode three? lets face it. Best one out of all six.

Though this was well-shot... this battle is nowhere near as epic or impressive as the Battle of Endor when the Rebels attacked the second Death Star. That was hands down the best space battle of any series.

@dunkelfier I agree. Battle Over Coruscant was probably the largest scale space battle in the Clone Wars, but for the Civil War the Battle of Endor takes the cake. There was a huge space battle, and epic lightsaber duel, and a major battle on the ground going on simultaneously.

And that civil war capital ships like the star destroyers and rebel cruisers are many times larger in size and guns. The star destroyer is a mile long, and that huge super destroyer in empire strikes back and return of the jedi is supposedly 10 miles long for christ sake, with over 20,000 cannons according to the wiki!

@Sunburn2007, it is a SPHAT turbo laser cannon, installed in the ventral hanger bays of some Venator class star destroyers at the recommendation of Anakin Skywalker. You would probably remember that big arse laser from episode two that was used to shoot down a core ship, well, it is basically a ramped up version of that.

@Sunburn2007 The thing is if Lucas decided to make something like that following the stories from the movies, it wouldn't make much sense because if I remember correctly about the Siths, QuiGon Jin said: "There are always 2: A master and an Apprentice, no more, no less." So if they killed the oldest Sith Lord (Palpatine) and Vader is gone, the story ends cause there are no more. What he could do is movies of who was the 1st Sith and who in the heck was Master Syfo-Dias and those days behind :)

This is a horrible example of a clone wars space battle, the separatist munificent frigates, rescurant destroyers, and lucrehulk battle ships and providence destroyers fire way more cannons then they did in this battle. That is the big flaw in this space battle the lack of turbo laser fire on both sides. of course they were trying to escape but still if they make an improved version of this battle please add more turbo laser fire from republic and separatist ships. Especially the separatist ship
