North Korea in 1950 was more industrialized, more advanced and had a better-trained army and equipped than South Korea. They were not "stupid people starting wars with smarter people." The United States and the UN joining in wasn't something North Korea anticipated.

On the other hand the U.S. decided that they didn't want to provoke North Korean and Russian so they didn't really equip or train South Korean. South Korean army only had a few airplanes and most of South Korean solider never saw tank before the war. The Russian thought that U.S. didn't care about South Korean when the U.S. refused to arm South Korean.

I'm familiar with the history of the Korean War. John Toland's "In Dubious Battle" is probably the best account of it. The mistakes Truman made were not nearly as incredibly stupid as Kim Il Sung's. It wasn't DC that got taken and blasted to rubble.

Communism like any other religion or political cult is like a computer program individuals can buy or reject or alter for their own purposes. I don't recommend it because there are inherent flaws in the program making it too easily turned into a Frankenstein monster you can't turn off.

@Texasjim2007 you have to realize that North Korean had a real army at the beginning of the war. They had T-34, and real Air force. On the other hand the U.S. decided that they didn't want to provoke North Korean and Russian so they didn't really equip or train South Korean. South Korean army only had a few airplanes and most of South Korean solider never saw tank before the war. The Russian thought that U.S. didn't care about South Korean when the U.S. refused to arm South Korean.

@aiaek My Uncle Ed was at the Chosen Reservoir. My wife's South Korean, and I was prepared to turn a couple North Korean tank divisions into radioactive slag once back in the 80s. I'm familiar with the history of the Korean War. John Toland's "In Dubious Battle" is probably the best account of it. The mistakes Truman made were not nearly as incredibly stupid as Kim Il Sung's. It wasn't DC that got taken and blasted to rubble.

@imaginator It's because the South initially, did not have the appropriate equipment to take on against tanks, planes and the sort. After US-led UN forces put up a strong presence, that was when the equipment of the ROK forces became more sufficient to take on the North's forces equally.
