Of all of the different people on youtube that have attempted this piece, Weissenberg has to be absolutely the best, even though I prefer a bit of romanticism during some parts, this is brilliance bar none.
it is a true conundum. Weissenberg is a GOD. And he makes me appreciate stravinsky like NEVER before. who was better? Who was worse? Silly question when you think of it that way, eh?
I'm just glad i learned how to record this onto a cd i can listen to while driving... my daughter is learning classical music from the GODS themselves...
Seriously, the pieces i can pull off of youtube are amazing!
You speak with a very fanatical tone. First to say, that not all the musicians overcome in genius those who composed the works that touch. It provokes to distort directly to the pianist and indirectly (what is even worse) to the composer.
@astronomo16 But this class of big musicians, which seems to me very likely that you like so much, obtains a really exceptional thing: to overcome the expectations put in the work by the same composers. In these really exceptional cases it is necessary of the question be doing of the one who is more a genius, the composer or the musician? ... I can give some names... Richter, Horowitz, Gould, Rubinstein, and possibly Weissenberg.
Hey Michel... any chance on uploading the actual movie of Weissenberg playing the Stravinsky? The one where the light changes according to the mood being conveyed???
Could really do with it as a research tool - trying to play this piece next year.
Amazing! At 6.00 he makes this sound like the barrel piano on which Stravinsky heard this tune outside his hotel. The original is a song about a man with a wooden leg.
@micheldvorsky Have you heard Biret's recording of the third movement for piano? It's the best I have ever heard. You must check it out, it's on Youtube.
The performance in the movie is better than this pre-movie test performance.

Thank you for the recommendations, we'll try these.
Pardon the fanatical tone, Weissenberg was my catalyst for classical music outside of just the typical popular classical music.
It has been a significant positive influence to me and my family.
Again, thanks,

I appreciate all the various changes of moood, from oriental, to dances, and then suddenly to something melancholy, and back to suddent excitement.
He always has you guessing what is coming next.
