  • She's paid to plug the product.

  • I prefer the Brannan flute sound ...but then I have a Miyazawa!!....but I can see where you are comng from.........a budget figure for this instrument/??? ...or are ALL japanese flute prices a mystery?

  • do you prefer inline or not?

  • What king of flute is that, Nina? Is it a gheminhart?

  • Congratulations for your flute !

Just my two cents, I think you play with too much vibrato, I prefer hearing it most on emotional parts of the music or long notes

  • BEAUTIFUL. *jealous* love, flute player/maniac

  • so your flute has no bottom register?

  • OMG your a big inspiration for me !! look at my videos ! I have some flutes too ! =D Beautiful tricks ! =D congrats !

  • That was absolutely amazing miss Nina. I'm a new fan of your talent. I hope to be able to play as wonderful as you

  • Ma questo non dovrebbe essere considerato un video che fa pubblicità ad un marchio? Boh!

  • Love it, I'm definatley inspired, what's the cost range on something like this.

  • Beautiful tone to it! You play so wonderfully :)

  • What's the piece at 5:55

  • I can't open a link for "To find out what I am playing in this video please go to:" ... And I really wish to know pieces You're playing...

  • Schuun :)

  • What is the name of this piece? 3:08

  • You're like my idol. <3

Aha,Im only 13 &&Have been told im good but then I listen to you and im like "I wish to play like her one day."

  • Wow you are amazing

  • Hi Nina, how much did your current flute cost?

    --Jason

  • i removed the rubber thingies blocking the holes....but i still don't get that high pitched notes :(

  • yaaaaaa!!!!!! rockin that twinkle twinkle little star

  • hi nina , i was gonna buy a new flute but was wondering which one i should get and is affordable?

  • I'm getting a new flute. Keeping it as a secret with my teacher then revealing it to everyone in the band when I actually get it.")

  • I'm so jealous . I need a new flute.

  • what is the song your playing at the start of this video

    please reply

  • Very reverberated room. Great playing, always enjoy your videos.

  • Nina, I love how your flute sings through all registers. I wish I could afford a flute that suits my needs.

  • lol it's so awesome that you added twinkle twinkle little star against all those other hard pieces. Your sound is beautiful and would you ever play incantation and dance one day?

  • hi nina , what is your comment about Miyazawa 402 flute . . . . ? i use yamaha y211, but someone steal it from my car . . . so i should get a new one... n just want to heard a comment from a pro... can u help me...?

  • Hot!

  • I was wondering, do you puff your cheeks while you play? Because that is what it seems like from what I can see.

    Thanks!

  • do you hav any video of flute trillings????

  • loff ur new flute nina!!!!!!!!!!!!

where did you get the the sheet music for your hoffmeinster duet with greg patillo?

i love that song so bad!

    keep going cause you rock!

  • Your tone is incredible. Don't ruin it with vibrato!!!!

  • I love your new flute. It sounds great!

You are truely a great flutist!

    Bravo!

  • Nice! But I think the wind in the sound should be reduced...

  • Now I want to learn how to play flute....

  • Congradulations on your new flute! I think it sounds beautiful. I think I like the Sankyo Wood flute better. The one you played in your video of 2008 convention.

For the type of music I play the rich dark tone of the wood flute fits better. I can imagine just holding a flute made of gold would be like holding heaven. My flute is a very old KING/Cleavland. I have played it for 30 yrs. It has gone all over the world with me.

  • i love the peter and the wolf portion, made me giggle a little :)

  • Also, what piece are you playing at around 2:50? It sounds fun!

  • @mollyphloot07 It is a Telemann Fantasy. Glad you like the video. I love my flute still!

  • I've watched this video a bunch of times, but the time between viewings is large, and every time I come back to watch it, I still love the sound you're getting.

  • Wait . . 14 karat?? yeash

  • Woah, 12 karat?

  • I Looooooove your new flute!!!! The sound is wonderful!

  • what do u think of the pierre maure french flutes?

  • du u have any tips for geting used to open hole flute even with bungs?

  • Anyone interested in trying new flutes & head joints -- check out Tom Green's flutes. I've had one for years and I love it! (Sold my Haynes - which I loved too - to get it.) Not only are his skills excellent but he's a really great guy too! (I majored in flute, had a thriving teaching studio for years & free-lance. Being a professional musician was my sole career for many years.)

  • at 2:15 I thought you were playing some song from Lord of the rings

  • Hi there, Nina! I love the First piece and last piece of this video! I know it is CPE Bach's work... but I just can not remember the exact name. Could you tell me what it is?

P.s. Your videos always inspire me to go to the next step, and work my absolute hardest! I hope that one day I can be as skilled as a musician as you are!

  • @kaohsiungfluteboy the sonata in a minor for solo flute by CPE Bach

  • Have been playing an older handmade Haynes flute for 50 years. Would like to know if you suggest a new headjoint to improve my sound?? If so, any you suggest? Love your sound, and how well it projects.

    Thanks!

  • @swamplixx I play a Sankyo RT-1 and I love it but you need to try headjoints on your flute and see what works for you.

  • I PLAY FLUTE I NEED ALL THE INFOR I CAN GET

  • @TIARRAAUSTIN like what?

  • I was just wondering if you've ever tried different types of flutes.

Because I'm just going into gr10 and I've started playing piccolo and I love it :)

I've also really liked playing tin whistles and all that, though flute is always gonna be my favourite by far!

I've recently really wanted to try a bass and alto flute.

Do you own any other types of flutes? If so do you have any suggestions for me?

    Thanks!

  • @geo289 I do play piccolo and I have a few videos which show me playing piccolo.

  • Hey Nina what are you playing at 3.09?It's fantastic!

  • @Flutist007654 It is an etude by Berbiguier. They are fun!

  • hi, Does a closed holed flute sound better than an open holed one or are the sounds the same?

  • I have a new flute .... an open hole pearl solid silver head body foot and mechanism. with C# trill and D# roller ... I love it and you playing is amazing... and I know what you mean I want to practice everything and rebuild my technique

  • 6:37,wonderful!

  • hi Nina please reply,i am buying a new flute flute i have tested the two one is open hole b foot in line g silver plate and the other is gold plated the same model with would be better please give me you opinion. jason

  • @murdie65 the gold plating will look nice but won't make a difference in sound but might cost more. It is up to you. The plating might wear off over time.

  • I was just wondering if this flute has the C# trill and/or D# roller mechanisms? I really wish my Powell Arumite came with BOTH though I'm perfectly happy with just the C#t trill.

I absolutely love the Etude @4:00. I've been working on it and I love the technicality and the melody of it all ^_^ LoL

I really enjoy all your posts, they're fun and interesting to watch! Thanks ^_^

  • @dizzychild121

I forgot to make a small request if I may be so bold?

Could you possibly make a recording of the full Etude @4:00 please? I've looked and never could find a recording that was "good enough." Thank you ^_^ LoL

  • I love my handmade Pearl. It is so awesome. :) It sounds like this one.

  • how is the flute going since you have had it,i just brought a 14k gold Perl flute and i love it its a pro model with solid silver mechanism im only 16 but im an advanced student,is this stuido at you home? if so it has an amazing sound when you play in there.

  • do you have the sheet music for peter and the wolf and the berbiguier etude? (:

you sound soo fantastic! i wish that even if i do i would sound half as good as you, haha.

  • Hi Nina, Ray here from Chiang Mai, Thailand. I'm using Yamaha 381H after I have another Emperor flute for almost 6 years.

My question is, most when I watch some video when professional play, I don't see they play on YAMAHA flute, is that mean Yamaha flute are just for beginner or intermedia?

If I set budget for around less then 3,000 US$, what you think which flute will be recommended? Similar structure as Yamaha 381H I have, please?

    Thank you. :o)

  • Have you ever tried muramatsu or altus? If so, what do you think of them?

  • You play grat! I always hear you and I tray to immitate tou sound flute! XoXo Vero!

  • What is the piece you are playing at 4:00? I really like it, I would love to give it a try and post it when I'm done.

  • Nina this is great. I think it sounds beautiful, and as mollyphloot07 said, I enjyed listening to the Reichert since I do them too! I'm a flute performance major, and I'm always afraid of summer because it's so easy to slack off and just relax for a little bit, but I'm working on an audition for symphony, and one of the excerpts is the Incidental Music to A Midsummer Night's Dream (Mendelssohn). You know, it's not too bad, but I wanted to work on articulation and sound,

  • where could I even go to try various Sankyo models. I plan buying a new flute or at least just a new headjoint before my college auditions in the fall and I am very interested in Sankyo flutes. Does anyone know any shops in the NJ/PA area that has any Sankyo flutes/headjoints?

  • how long is your practice session?

  • @bibiriscas never long enough, it seems. So much to do, so little time.

  • WOW i play flute too!!! and that flute must have costed a fortune

  • The last song you played by CPE Bach is one of my favorites. I always play the melody from 6:59. It's so much fun

  • Hi Mrs.Perlove

I plan on buy some new instrument because i plan on doing a concert in 2012 with a friend. I have a question do you have any reccemendations on diffrenet flute brands I should try and which ones i should avoid. Also i was wondering do you play alto or bass flute cause just a suggestion i wanted to hear you feeling about the harmony flutes

    Adrian

  • Wonderful range, the tones are sparkling.

  • It's beautiful...

  • That was a great..... but you would sound great on any flute you play...

  • Beautiful! Just curious, why Sankyo? I am trialing a Burkart 10K with silver keys and mechanisms. Loving it...what do you think about the Lillian Burkart flute?

    Thanks!

  • Startone SFL-55.

  • The flute really has a beautiful sound. Instantly, you can almost feel the sound running through you. It has a very...deep sound, for lack of better words.

  • my flute costed 117 dollars. Lol

  • Fantastic! Hey I just uploaded my very first youtube vid (only 10 seconds haha, but you may want to perfect my very short but sweet hot-lick)....please let me know how long it took you to perfect it, and thanx for your great vids, btw!

  • you sound amazing when you play. so smooth, and the tone is perfect. i've never ever heard someone play as well as you do... be proud Nina!!!!! :-D

  • Coolio!

  • i have never heard anyone play as well as you do. how do you cope with playing in a wind ensemble or major orchestra. it must bore you to no end, being even the most difficult piece they could ever play wouldn't be a challenge to you at all. you would sight read it with total perfection. so where would you go from here? nothing at all would challenge you any more..AND how much does that flute cost?

  • Does gold in the instrument really make it better and if so why?

  • @knightpg

    I just bought a gold-plated flute.

    Yamaha 674, low B, offset G, split E, gizmo.

Seems to have a softer, sweeter, tone.

  • @jazzflutist

woah! sounds nice, its seems like expensive flutes with gold seem to make a better sound...lol

  • @CrystalCakesx3

    Well, here's my evaluation:

    Yamaha 225S (student model): sound=terrible.

Yamaha 481 silver: sound=so-so, no character.

Yamaha 674: sound=nice, smooth, with character. I also find I can do chromatic scales/runs more smoothly because of the keys themselves (bouncy feel).

    Cheers,

    Bruce

  • @jazzflutist

lol. i dunno what to say, i just started to play flute so i'm not sure whats good or not.

  • @knightpg Sorry that this is 3 months after you commented, but I would like to say that what a flute is made of definitely affects the sound it makes. Gold tends to produce a thicker, warmer sound. Silver is more a light sound. But all flutes are different. :)

  • do you know hope to play stairway to heven and where do you get flutes

  • what is the song that she plays at the beginning??

  • partita in a minor by bach i think

  • 3:21-3:38 like a machine.....just..wow.....

  • I love the dark tone this instrument has. :)

  • Very nice sounding flute! Im hoping that before I graduate from high school I can buy a really high quality (prefer.5-14crt gold) flute head joint. I cant afford a whole professional flute but my Yamaha is very high quality (completely solid silver) and i think if I just "upgrade" my head joint I should get the sound im looking for. I tried a gold headjoint in my current flute and it made my sounds a lot bigger and warmer! Does any1 know the pricing of professional solid gold headjoints? Thanks!

  • @Zombiemuffins13

    on fluteworld, a powell 14k is 5265, a tom green 14k is 4050, yamaha 14k 4079, haynes 14k 4950, pearl 14k 6015, and burkart 14k 5800

these prices change often, as does the price of gold, so they might not cost the same in a week or two. I hope this helps!

  • thank u very much!! this helps me greatly!

  • I hear the reverb, Nina.

  • I saw ian anderson through his flute into the crowd. it was then when i realized that if i had a time traveling device i could go back to 1971 and catch that flute... of course there are many other implications on what I'd do if i had a time traveling device.

  • Wow - she just can't stop playing her new flute, and I can't stop listening!!! FAnstasic!!

  • I have a Sankyo flute since a year and is very difficult play with it.

Can you give me some advices to can play better..¿?

    thanks ;)

    Fani

  • what was that song you played at 306 to 319

  • Ahhhh omg I want your flute...

  • does anyone knows the play from 3.58 to 4.31 ? More than beautiful...Congz

  • Its Elegie-Etude by Donjon You can find it in the "Modern Flutist" book

  • thank you....

  • Very impressed with the 14k Sakyo, very nice sound!!! Great down low and up high, what are some of the options u got?

  • It is a Sankyo :)

  • It sounds so beautiful!

  • Awsome! :)

  • love the bach!

  • Just loves the sound =]

  • I absolutely adore Sankyo flutes. I can't afford them now and am no where near on a professional enough level to go out of my way spending so much money...but, one day I will get one. :)

  • Which Kohler etude is at 3:50?

  • Thats weird, I have a flute just like that.

  • I really love how this flute sounds! What headjoint cut did you get? Personally, I sound the sweetest on a Sankyo flute. I think you do too!

  • OMG awesome flute i love it it is soooo pretty sounds amazing too!!!! love your vids!!!!

  • You are really good. I wish you were into playing nintendo music. Most of the people who play video game music on flute are very bad.

  • hi Nina! Can you talk about how you get that amazing left hand/wrist position? Do you feel any pain in your index finger joint? I love how straight your wrist is! I am using the left hand finger crutch (from the maker of the thumbport) and it doesn't allow me to get my wrist quite as straight...perhaps I am using it incorrectly though. My flute is rose silver and I don't want to touch my skin to it while playing because the metal is flaking off! (rose silver was discontinued year ago)

  • di bach non ha capito niente

  • i love this medley :)

  • u are so cool!!! u are so inspiring!! *goes down and gets flute*

  • nina have u tried Bansuri (indian flute)

  • Nina, you know that the Sankyo scale is THE WORST on the market right now, right??? The Middle register is still stuffy... Im telling you, forget Sankyo. They are holding your performance back.

  • Her flute sounds fine. Maybe the flute you played was messed up or something.

  • What you play at 6:00 makes you sound like a bird .. what's the name of the excerpt?

  • Hi, the excerpt is "Peter and the Wolf", by Sergei Prokofiev . And it's really supposed to sound like a bird.

  • Oh yay, someone famous and really amazing uses the Reichert [sp?] too. And I recognize what you're playing at 3:50, but I don't remember the name. I really enjoy what you're playing at 3:13 -- could you tell me the name of the song or exercise it was?

  • 3:13 is Berbiguier etude, 3:50 I think is the kohler etude and 6:00 is Peter and the Wolf

  • Comment removed

  • Nina you are awsome! Im in Love qith your flute!!!

  • @ninaflute I have the book Kohler Progress in flute playing Op. 33 Book 2 and the first study in that is the one you did at @3:50! I loved that piece when I did it for my Grade 6! I think it's a great book and I enjoy many of the studies from it so I would recommend other flautists buying it! (:

  • @tcab09 what number etude is it? in book 2?

  • i love this video! from playing all this advaned music then playing twinkle twinkle little star than immediantly back to the advanced music amazing

  • I am very green with envy! I love your tone!

  • sexiest flute player of all time!!!!

  • what are you playing at 3:07?

  • how long have u been playing the flute nina??

  • Since she was 7 :)

  • i want the sheet of peter and the wolf

  • wow that sound is beautiful the combination of gold and silver both working together makes playing on that flute a delacacy and very lucky to have or even try playing on it it is fantastic making anything you play smoothly moving through high and low notes your very lucky thx for the video

  • sei brabvissima

  • wow you are amazing your new flute sounds great (i am getting a new flute but it is not quite as good) your tone is sweet, yet deep sounding, i love it

  • such a beautiful sound you make!! lovely melody!!!! Im your fan!!!

  • what song is she playing at 6.59?

  • CPE Bachs solo sonata in a minor

  • Love how the notes don't slide (and the spring for teh trill key dosen't come off all teh time. Like mine does)

  • What's she playing at 6:15 ?

  • Jolivet Chant de Linos

  • What is she playing at 3:07?

  • awe!!! i just watched this vid with my daughtert....and my daughter loves you more than me!!!!

  • I´m amazed how your new flute sounds, sometimes like Silk, but has a good attack in the deep tones, too. I always try this, but my deep tones are always too much "blown in" (means it takes a bit until the tone stabilized).

Great, I always love to listen and watch you playing the flute!

  • You may not have the right ebichure... (spelled terribly.) Try playing almost streight down and keep the mouth about the same as you would on regular notes. :)

  • thanks,

I really work on this. When I play down from higher tones (e or g) I have no problems ton find the right ankle, but if I jump from more higher tones (a or c or more higher) or if I start with the deep b then I have problems. But you make me hope that I get it one day, thank you for this!

  • you are amazing!!! and your flute is beautiful. i just have a year and a half playing the flute. i have the 3SHBGemeinhardt flute. you are my role model now.

  • Comment removed

  • certainly. what i love about my youtube is bumping into people like you. 100% amazing,

  • damn

  • wow. just wow. your amazing!

  • That flute is so beautiful! I want a Sanyko Silver Sonic and a Sanyko Wood Flute! Can you please play on one of those!

  • Hi Nina. I love your flute. I play my flute since 2008 and I really feel that I need somthing more. Do you think that I should get a new headjoint made of gold or another flute with open holes? And could you please gimme an advice cause I wanna know what piece should I try . I would like a more dynamic one. Thanks

  • What grade are you? For an intermediate but serious player I would recomend something like a yamaha 371- it has a solid silver head joint and open holes. If you aren't planning on doing multiphonics glissandos etc. then you could also get the 311- same as the 371 but with closed holes. I have it and I can tell you, it plays beautifully, it's really responsive in all the registers I play in (admittleddly 4th octave C is a littel difficult, but hat's just because it's a really hard note...).

  • I love my flute but I wish I'd bought an open holed now I have started to be be interested in the great train race etc. style pieces. Try both, and see what you like. Also, if you have more money to spend, then get a 411/471- like the 311/371 but also with a solid silver body and foot. In my opinion the head joint makes a massive difference, the body does a lot less, so I'm willing to compromise (price!) but if you have the cash, then by all means buy the solid silver model! Hope this helped.

  • That has a really nice sound...

  • I guess Nina can play at any flute and will still sound good. ;)

Sankyo doesnt really work for me, I still prefer Powell Flute 19.5 k gold...2nd to the list is Brannen.

  • Everyone is like that. I can barely play an Armstrong, but I can play a Powell, or Sankyo fine, even Gemeinhardt or Haynes sounds good on me. But Pearl is my First Choice.

Brannen and Yamaha don't sit to well on me at all!

  • I'm a big fan of Sankyo flutes as well. I've only been lucky enough to play on a sterling CF 601, handmade, soldered tone hole. It was magnificent!! You sound great on this flute! Very supple and lots of colors.

  • wow, my flute teacher has one thats similar if not the same, waahhh, i just wanna play one so bad. I'm playing on a YFL-674 and I'm pretty happy with it =]

  • She Is Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great, I like trying flutes, I also like your 10 flutes video where you hardly hear a difference between the flutes!!! But the thing is: playing them is VERY different. So it makes it different, because you are inspired completely differently.

You are a great player, simpatico, beatiful too! Thanks.

  • OMG COOL!!! it sound it sound... i test it!!! sound good but i would like feel its sound by myself.
