  • those kids who liked it are about 50 y.o. now .....oh shit!!!!

  • very cool. It's great to see what motivated them to become music gods.

  • EU ERA BEBE NESSA ÉPOCA.

  • cool I hear alot of Sex Pistols in that

  • @PaladinHludwig well,u2 was inspired by Sex Pistols

  • It'd be cool if Bono and his mates played this song live now; I think they could wing it :)

  • U2 does heavy metal in their sound, hahahha!! What a horrible expert!!!

  • only one Fool in that shot.

  • That second critic must be eating his words now... :)

  • @SoccerRockNY ? doubt it. He didn't say they were bad. He said he didn't like "that kind of music". He acknowledges that they are popular with people younger than him. If he had said "they'll never make it" then he would have to eat his words. The important thing, however, is that You and I like them ; )

  • que bueno, que recuerdos

  • Bono could have been Mark E Smith - what went wrong?

  • Great song; it's too bad they pulled away to hear those music critics talk.. at the end, I heard a little Johnny Rotten influence from Bono. They were all like kids in this year..teenagers..boy, who would've known back then where they'd be now.. amazing..

  • Does any one knows if those songs were included in some rare album?

  • Bono parecia só mais um punk qualquer LOL!

  • The guy saying they were heavy metal is Nial Stokes of Hot Press Magazine.

  • heavy metal influence?! what a fuckin retard!

  • @liranrok1 Ofcourse there was heavy metal influence in there, you've got to remember that in 1978 heavy metal wasn't always as heavy as it is today!

  • I don't get the 'heavy metal' influence..punk definitely... hear some Sex Pistols-like sound.. who's the moustachioed grump who says U2's music doesn't do anything for him? Wow, I bet he couldn't foresee the megastars they ended up being. It's cool to see the band in its youth.. Bono is I believe 18 years old (not tough to figure out since he was born in 1960); so he was at the age of your typical college freshman here.

  • heavy metal? LULZ

  • @balerinauzicka

"heavy metal" yeh, & don't forget the "bowie influence"!

  • @punkrockefeller there were so many heavy metal bands in 70ies...black sabbath and......uh, help

  • @balerinauzicka

i was trying to make a joke of the "heavy metal" & "bowie" thing!

i don't know what influenced u2's music, but in 1978 u2 would have been considered punk or new wave!

  • @punkrockefeller They seem like one of the u2 copies....

  • @punkrockefeller, they were labelled neither, they were an amalgam style.

  • @punkrockefeller, the haircuts are the Bowie influence

  • @Robinson4332 I will follow ! =D)

  • That's edge's first guitar.

  • Bono ainda parecia estar se procurando como performer. Ele ai ta parecendo um pouco o pessoal do sex pistols...e talvez um pouco Ian Curtis...

  • that wanker commenting on the left side has no clue at all wow!, he says he cant relate, he doesn't like that kind of music, it doesn't do anything for him, HA HA! little does he know that these guys later would become one of most biggest and most influential bands of all time.

  • they know that they can't dance...at least they know!

  • I think they will do well

  • @cookmoore Ha that was funny. (not sarcasm)

  • @barn524

    :)

Boyish looking punks with good intentions!

  • Healy even then was a hippy wanker, is that David Koresh on the other side..???lol

  • Very Punk! =O =D

  • a la punk 77

  • @louspe

More like the post punk area with the jam as a star up for the new wave sound...i think. But hey its just my opinion :)

  • This is indeed Cockney Rebel with a smattering of David Bowie...

The old hippies commentating I like a lot - oh! How the world keeps on changing...!

  • if u read u2 by u2 cover to cover u will appreciate this clip more and understand where they were at at this stage in their lives/careers!

  • Did they just say they're like heavy metal?? Wow!!! Funny that guy says he didn't really understand U2's kinda music, hes probly kicking himself for saying that the joke was on him.

  • if he said punk instead he wouldn't of sounded completely ridiculous

  • That's his Punk English stage :)

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • *0:29

  • HAHAHAAHAHH @ 0:26 SPAM

  • i keep clicking on :29

    lmao!!

  • I like the guitar tone of the Edge, very "Rush" in a sense.

  • that guy speaking was Shay Healy.

  • @irishmusiccentral I heard Shay Healey asked on the radio what he thought was the best song ever written. His choice(s): either Somewhere Over The Rainbow or One.

  • The Fool is a great song!!!!! a great tune in 1979 and a great tune in 2009. funny how things never change.

  • saw them live in a small club in belgium in 1979, they were more punky/new wave actually...

  • first gig they did in mainland europe was in hilversum, holland...october 14th 1980

  • Holy cow, this is hilarious!

  • Valeu ai galera pelos comentários! Eu não entendo muito bem inglês, mas valeu! Hahahaha

  • @markctda é so ir no ggogle tradutor ;)

  • @markctda é so ir no google tradutor :)

  • so now we know where they got vertigo from i aint a fool

this was still a good start
