I remember this film from my high school days in 1971. One of the absolute best, kept me interested from start to finish. Superb performances by Eastwood and Jessica Walter. Each time I see it I yearn for those carefree, less tense and politically correct days of the golden early 70s.
Damn i envied his character in this , House on the cliff overlooking the pacific, drivung an awesome car up the PCH at sunset to a laid back job where you toke on a doobie if you wanted to....BEAUTIFUL!!!
my friend and i, both of us single women, watched this movie together one evening, and every time jessica walter's character hacked at eastwood's clothing, caused a beet-faced screeching scene in a public place, threatened donna mills with a meat cleaver or otherwise made a complete ass out of herself, one of us would casually remark, "Oh, I've done THAT"or "Yup, did that, too" till it got silly!
i Watched this movie as a kid growing up in New Zealand, i so loved the scenery and decided to go there one day, well i did!.... this is one of the most beautiful places on the planet...❤❤❤ Carmel by the sea so pretty!
I'm answering my own question from a few days ago here: No, that was not Eastwood's actual home in the opening shot. I'm watching the DVD of the film right now and according to Clint's longtime producer-friend Robert Daley the house and the art gallery where the Donna Mills character worked belonged to a friend of Clint's.
@happyheadpopper The song is called "Dirty Boogie" by Gator Creek. Someone was very nice enough to give me the information and I managed to find vinyl copy at a local vintage record store.
@Phioletovii They sell the vinyl on e-bay all the time. This was way before CD's. I'm trying to borrow a record player from my friend to get a listen to it. I bought the vinyl 6 months ago and I still have not heard any of it yet! Then there is the problem of finding someone that can convert to mp3. A lot of work to get this song on an iPod.
billabong: I was just gonna say the same thing! In fact, if I hear this song on the radio one more time today, I'm gonna go nuts!! I can't get away from it...every station I tune to is still playing it non-stop. What a hit!
There is no soundtrack to this movie. You'll have to figure out a way to pull it off the movie, or start digging around the internet for someone that has all ready converted it.
did you know the story of Play Misty for me is based on a true story, when Clint Eastwood was a young man there was a woman who stalked him, it's a great movie and one that he also directed as well as starred in what an amazing man
If you find it online somewhere could you let me know? Someone told me the woman in this movie is just like my mom and I want to see it so bad. IF I find it before you I will let you know.
my favorite film ever. i am a radio deejay and would like to know if there are many memories, recollections of the film in the carmel area. is the sardine bar and store where 'evelyn' made the key.any reunions, like the 30th planned?
@vjmartinez88 Easily available on DVD for about INR 300/- Worth having in one's library- Eastwood is as Hitchcockian as they come- SSubsequently he has excelled and surpassed himself with such rare classics as Million Dollar Baby, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,Bloodwork, White Hunter Black Heart,Mystic River, Changeling, Gran Torino and now HEREAFTER- There's no limit to this ex Cowpoke's undoubted versatility and talent - Moral of the story- Don't look down condescendingly on COWBOYS
Anyone know the name of the bridge at 3:50? And about where it is? My next trip out to Cali I am going there, looks like an awesome road trip. Don't let the $4.50 per gallon gas stop you.....
That's Bixby Creek Bridge. It is south of Carmel, where the movie takes place. Highway 1 must be the one of the most beautiful places to drive on. Check out the private 17-Mile Drive as well if you are heading for Carmel.
I'm curious to know if the area around Carmel (as featured in 'Play Misty For Me') has changed much over the decades since the movie. I imagine that Carmel itself has, but I may be wrong?
IMHO, one of Clint's best flicks. I think it's scarier than "Fatal Attraction". I consider myself very fortunate to be living only a half hour away from the Monterey-Carmel area; it's gorgeous.
thats a life style. living alone with retro haircut shaped in smooth pents and jacket, one line sunglasses driving in a fancy car on the coast from home to work - caramel radio station, whilst listening to a goodie early funky song. I would have a crush on him as well ! :)
I think I have watched this video over 50 times; never tire of it
A couple of years ago there was a tour in the US called Play Misty for Me Tour visiting all the places in the film including the shop Evelyn got her key cut
This is indeed one of my favorite movies of all time.....everything I love embodied in this. Clint Eastwood, groovy jazz, late 60's early 70's.....I never get tired of this flick. "Fatal Attraction" is good, but it's got nothing on this one.
Dee Barton (RIP) did the soundtrack for this movie. Some of the tracks are his original compositions (like the opening credits) and others are covers. Of course, "Misty" is by Erroll Garner, who re-recorded it for this movie at Clint's request. A remastered soundtrack needs to be released for this movie...good stuff. A haunting yet pleasing brew of pop, elevator jazz, rock, and bebop.

Happy birthday Mr. Clint Eastwood!
This movie did it for me, yes, this got me hooked...
so many marvelous roles, so much the hero, on screen & IRL.
One mighty fine actor, director, politician, oh yes a very fine man indeed!
