In the early church there was silent 'confession of sin' by all at the beginning of each mass; absolution was then given by the priest. Private spiritual counsel (confession) was optional,private& highly personal. The former was suppressed & replaced by the Confessional mode in the late Middle Ages.

Bill Donohue loves the Lord, he loves the Church so much so he is willing to put out there with great misunderstanding and much hatred. St. Paul tells us to contend for the faith. You can't listen to this and not see that he is not defending priests who did this terrible sin. He is defending the Church from malicious attack. Those that should go to jail, should be punished, no question about it. But the vast majority is innocent.
