Ok, I have a 67 fairlane...it leaks around the passenger side window a bit because the seals are getting old...anyways i have put ductape all over the vents on the cowl (just to seal it off temporarily its a project/daily driver don't judge lol) but yea it leaks all over the passenger kick panel...i cant tell if its just because the window seals are crap or what...the drivers side doesn't leak a drop however...whats your stance on this? thanks!
Would you recommend painting the replacement piece of cowl floor before welding it in or leave it bare? Are there any welds that need to be drilled out for this type of repair or do you just cut right along the outside edge of the cowl cover? To be able to weld the new panel in on the drivers side, do you need to remove the steering column or anything else that is under the driver;s side?
Thanks for the video. My '62 Mercury Comet unibody needs new cowls and floors. I've been putting it off for years, this looks like the best line of attack, without the risk of structural damage. Far less invasive!
If your doing a complete restoration wouldn't make sense to do the whole cowl bottom and top to ensure down the road you don't have to come back to repair another part of it. Mind you, my windshield has already been out and it's no where close to getting a paint job.
@Sparkys1492 You would think so, But as long as you have cut out the rusty part of the cowl cone,The less you have to cut into the car the better. A small cut into a unibody car can make a big change it the layout of the floor's and frame's. Thanks for the question! Geat one. Chris
i have been debating on what to do with my cowl, after reading up and watching your vids, i decided to go ahead and remove the whole cowl and replacing it with a new full cowl panel... im glad i did i decided to remove the whole cowl, its rusted up pretty bad!! keep up the vids, great
