Late in the date I know but just have to comment on this idiot..
Klylef7735?
Just another example of self proclaimed Youtube know it all/troll that infest the web. Advice just ignore any such morons in the future, like any child, when nobody talks them they'll go away.
Also go to AR-15.com all one needs to know about, all things Ar-15' and or guns in general. Loads of technical and legal info from people that actually do know. Not from stupid and useless Youtube morons.
Im kinda new to guns, is it possible to avoid having to register your AR if you build it? So that you're putting it together piece by piece as apposed to buying one gun from a dealer? Sorry I'm still trying to learn how it all works.
@Kylef7735 Here in Washington state you can buy every piece of an AR at any gun show, take them home and assemble. You can buy as you can afford it or all at the same time. That is INCLUDING the receiver in several different calibers as well.
@Kylef7735 In the state of Washington you do not have to register a gun. Furthermore of the lowers that are available you have the option of buying them with or without serial numbers.
Don't listen to doomsdaybmx, or Kylef7735. etucker5007 has the right idea, except for that bit about the lower needing to be purchased from a dealer.
It ALL depends on your state. Every single bit. California? Red tape forests. Arizona? A fist full of cash and a valid drivers license is enough, and you can purchase it from anyone.
@PantsOperator Agreed! You can, for the most part, buy every part without so much as a by your leave. The only one that will be in question is the receiver ittself. That will require purchase through an FFL. As always, it's best to check your state and local regs to avoid all the legal entanglements that could happen.
One other question that was asked, the cost of building it yourself. That is going to vary HUGELY on what parts you purchase. Good enough is inexpensive, better costs more.
@PantsOperator You have to buy the lower from a dealer, that is the serial numbered "Gun" if you dont register that, it will be an illegal unregistered firearm.
Oh god you moron. You fucked up. Look up what an NFA weapon is. An NFA weapon stands for National Firearms Act. AKA anything that requires a tax stamp approval from the ATF such as machine guns, SBRs, and suppressors. Normal firearms are not NFA firearms.
@PantsOperator Whatever you say dude, but when youre in jail, after being picked up by the ATF for it, think of me, and think of how much of a dumbass know it all you thought you were.
guy at a pawn shop tried telling em it violates atf laws to build or even assemble a ar15 he said when you buy a lower receiver its mean t to replace a broken one... asshat
@PointyCheese they don't ship to the UK. All parts for the AR-15 are legal with the exception of the lower receiver. The lower receiver is illegal in the UK
@ barrenpaladin I beleive XM16E1 was the first variant to get the forward assist. After changing the flash hider from a 3 prong to a birdcage the M16A1 was born.
Thx SO MUCH for your site! My bro just ordered a fully built AR-15 along with accessories and I just got all jealous. I don't make the kind of cabbage he makes so I decided to either buy a cheaper Saiga 223 rifle or take my time and gather the parts to build my own AR-15. Not sure which route I want to go yet but will watch your vids to see it goes.
Assembling an AR 15 for the first time costs more than buying a fully assembled one. Unless you have the tools already, prepare to shell out a whole hell of a lot of money for the proper tools. They are absolutely necessary as assembling a rifle requires a lot of precision for obvious reasons unless you wanna blow your hands or face off. If you go to the website in this video and look at their tool checklist and then look up the prices, it gets real expensive real fast.
thanks for that, it makes no sense to buy all the tools unless youre going to put more then one together , i think i;ll just buy a fully assembled one
The AR-15 is the semi-automatic (or civilian) version of the rifle. The M-16 is the military version of the rifle and depending on the specific variant may be full automatic or select fire.
ar-15=civilian version of the m-16 the AR part stands for armalite the original company that made the m-16/ar-15.
m-16=millitary designation.
The main difference between the 2 are that the m-16 is fully automatic/ select fire while the ar-15 is semi-automatic for civilian use. There are a few more minor differences between them but it basically hinges around the m-16 being select fire.
M16 and M16A1 are full auto. M16 had no forward assist until A1 model during Vietnam.
M16A2 has 3 round burst.
M16A3 is full auto version of M16A2 used by the US Navy and Security Teams uses A1 trigger group.
M16A4 is like M4 with MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail, or Modular Weapon System but still is 3-round burst. Some versions are A3/M4 Converts/Rebuilds too fire full-auto.
M4 is Carbine version of M16A2/A4. Some have been converted to fire full auto and are the M4A1.
This is Brownells bread and butter.... I ordered an AR-15 catalog from them and WOW! The possibilities are endless! They sell lots of parts down to springs and match grade trigger set ups to everything in between... I'm going to buy a lower complete here in California then built the rest from Brownells...
???? what the hell is a bullet button. i build ar's and i have no idea what your talking about. but to answer your question yes a complete lower comes with the trigger( lower parts kit) and stock installed. you an change grips very easy
you can also buy lower stripped with no lower part kits and no stock. just a piece of metal. you can also get them with just the lower parts kit.
i have a complete lower made by YHM for sale now. let me know if your interested
A bullet button is a device which safeties The People's Republic of Kalifornia's rules, which make it a felony to have a rifle with a detachable magazine, and a pistol grip/flash suppressor--kind of mirrors the 1994 AWB. To release the mag, you press the bullet end of a cartridge into a lock in the center of the mag release, and out pops the mag.
Yes. It's completely uncalled for, unconstitutional by the spirit of the law, and all that. Thank god I don't live in Kommiefornia. You should too.
haha i didnt know about the none detachable mag.rule in c.a. i know they have alot rules like the flash hider and pistol grip crap. its to much workt o make a rifle c.a legal. i also just state no slae's to c.a
it kinda cost more to to make the ar rifle c.a legal, i think its stupid tho. that means you got to load a mag buy pullin the takedown pin?
Loading mags works like usual. To detach, however, you use a tool--usually a bullet, hence "bullet button". Could also use a screwdriver, etc.
I think they can only have one of the features which make a weapon an assault weapon--so if they want a pistol grip they have to have a non-removable mag. If they want a detachable mag, they have to get one of those grips which gives you more of a traditional rifle hold.
If we want "evil features" like collasible stocks, pistol grips, forward grips, and flash hiders on our AR's, we need a mag lock like the bullet button. Easy to install at virtually no extra cost. If we want detachable mags, we can have none of those listed features above on our AR's. Just FYI, I guess
Just a head's up to anyone that lives in California, if you'd like to have "evil features" on your AR, you can buy a .22 conversion kit, or a dedicated .22 upper. The law only applies to centerfire rifles.
you can get a bullet button for your lower to make a legal removable clip ar just can not legally use any clips over 10 rounds beats the closed lower that bushmaster has.
It isnt much work at all, instead of installing a normal mag release button, just install a Bullet Button. Bingo Bango Bongo; CA legal! And we dont have to top load.
Does anybody know where I can find ar15 parts I have looked every where and I have finished my lower in october 08 bought an upper reciver, Adams Arms kit and flash hider.
Accomplishment is sweet, I built my from stripped, and personally learn more about AR than buying one too, but might as well as ended up spending on a $400 eotech.
You save A LOT OF MONEY by building your own AR, not to mention, you can get exactly what you want. If I want a Magpul CTR stock right away, I dont waste money on an LE stock on a prebuilt AR.

The Constitution doesn't grant ANY rights,it simply affirms those rights granted by God and ensures that the government won't infringe upon them...man, I was thinking about Ruby Ridge and Waco last night...that Clinton was a real live murderer!!!! People criticize Bush all the time, but I don't recall him doing anything like that to U.S. Citizens!!!!
Sorry guys but you're all wrong to some degree. The right to protect myself comes from God, it also known as a Natural Right. None of the Rights enumerated in the Constitution are granted to us from government..they are again from God.The innate right of armed self-defense exists whether any government chooses to recognize it.The 2nd amendment is there to protect me a from a tyrannical government( See Federalist Paper # 46)The Heller decision has holes big enough to drive a Mac Truck though!
Exactly like "the right to keep and bear arms is available to all who are deemed fit (presumably sane, etc.) according to the government. THIS IS WRONG. The 2nd amendment is meant to ensure us the ability to overthrow a tyrannical government.
Necessitating that the tyrannical government must grant me the right to fight it is the most counterintuitive thing I've ever seen.
Yes I agree with AERO1779! The president cannot simply ban weapon ownerships left and right, the second amendment confirms it! Obama has bigger fish to fry than gun ownership, despite the fact that his VP created was apart of writing one of the largest gun ban documents in the USofA history.
Obamageddon is going to ban all the AR's. Everyone needs to join the NRA and start writing their reps to protect their firearms so they can defend them selves if necessary like in event of a hurricane or earthquake or flood.
The president does not grant you permission to own a gun the constitution does! No the law, dont buy into the Hysteria! Bush did not get rid of the AR ban when he could have he just allowed it to expire. I own 11 AR's and the constiotuion says I can own them not any president!
Great point, and I Do know the law, and in 1994 we got an assault weapons ban PASSED. I'm just saying, Constitution Guarantees the right, but we need EVERYONE we can get in the NRA or other gun rights org, and writing their congress-critters RIGHT NOW to prevent another. We don't need a democratic OR republican politician trying to take away the right to defend ourselves and our families. Happy Holidays everyone!
i'd rather have a republican gov telling me what to do b/c they would have a decent idea of what would work. to the other guy, they cannot take your ARs away, but they can make it so you can no longer buy more of them. obama wants to ban AKs, even if they're neutered, along with all other "military" weapons/ ammo, including the most popular hunting calibers (.308, .30-06, .223). He wants to ban pistols everywhere, remove 90% of the gun stores in the US, and impose ridiculous taxes on guns.

However, the lower receiver must be purchased from a gun dealer unless you machine it yourself.

"...there is no mechanism for a possessor to register an unregistered NFA firearm already possessed by the person."

Nobody likes criminals or looters!
