  • the magic music of johann strauss is a wonderful poem in the life with tonic soul!

  • So gorgeous!

  • I do not think at waldteufel78's comment should have been voted out, even though it may be somewhat overstated.

André Rieu has certainly done a good job in bringing Strauss to a wider public, and he certainly knows how to get 'em up and dancing! However, there are other performances of Roses From The South which do more to bring out the depths of this piece.

Perhaps the problem is that economics has forced modern producers to take things too fast.

  • @xianweijing I agree so far. What Rieu presents here might be okay for a (very) simple entertainment. But if you compare to Roses from the South conducted by Robert Stolz or a comparable master, the above becomes - sorry - ridiculous and reminds me of a beer tent. This waltz has auch a overwhelming grace, such a incredible charm, it's simply not of this world. A orchestra like this is not able to bring out all of this.

  • Some seem to take this personally. I am not saying André Rieu is a bad perfomer. Not at all. I usually like to listen to his orchestra. In general, he has for sure a good taste in music.

  • I love the Viennese atmosphere of this presentation!

This is one of my top 3 waltzes. A stanza from it used to be the signature tune of the BBC programme "Grand Hotel", getting on for half a century ago.

  • This is wonderfull. It's so touching. It reminds me of the dancing part in the movie Escape from Sobibor. Is this that waltz? If it is or not, I love it.

  • Yes, it is a waltz!

  • @waldteufel78 Well, Andre Rieu is not Herbert von Karajan or Nikolaus Harnoncourt. ;-)

  • @harryonlineat yes indeed !
