A wonderful work, and a fine performance! I first heard this played by Arthur Gold and Robert Fizdale, the duo pianists for whom Poulenc wrote it, at a Community Concerts recital in the mid-1960's, and not again (live) until two years ago at Chamber Music Northwest when Orion Weiss and his wife Anna Polonsky played it. What a great and seldom-heard composition!
nice performance. i've wondered before why the opening material is re-orchestrated in the final movement...seeing you play, it's clear that he wants the foregroun arm to play the melody in the opening, with a more introverted statement (kinesetically) in the 4th.
He has written one for 1 piano-4 hands (or can be played on 2 pianos) and one for 2 pianos. The 4-hand was written in 1918 and the 2-pianos in 1953. The Prelude you mention is from the 4-hand (Prelude-Rustique-Final). This heard here is the Prologue from the 2-piano(Prologue-Allegro molto-Andante lyrico-Epilogue).
How about a page turner for the blond pianist! Annoying for her and the audience. Why didn't they anticipate this problem!

what about the prelude? that's the funky part. Sonata para piano 4 manos or Sonata para dos pianos, isn't it?
