wow amazing! hey would it be okay if i used the mp3 off of this to replace my school's version? :D im making a video for their performance and the sound quality is terrible from the camera xD
In my own time yes.. All the time.. Im slowly building a team here ( in Japan) .. it is hard.. Nothing to do with racism.. we got China towns in Yokohama, Kobe etc.. and there are Many chinese even where I live... Many are interested, but its a time and noise factor that makes it hard in this concrete jungle ;-)
one word AMAZING i dont know anything about the lions dance history but i can fell it very nice played got to do my research :P anyways nice :D and thx for the vid
Would've been complete to see the performers wearing dress school uniforms but the music is great anyway. By the way, is the drum covered with a metal of some kind? I've never seen that before. Does it add to the quality of the drum sound or it doesn't make a difference? Sorry, I don't know anything technical about the art of lion dance drumming.
Thanks. We were just practisng and dont wear full uniform unless performing. The drum gold bits are just for decoration. Shape, size and wood type along with skin and heating have an impact on the sound along with the venue you perform in as in the acoustics of the room etc.
awesome job playing the drums. I've heard the loin dance tons of times in chinatown every chinese new year and I like your drumming. It has a sort of unique sound to it which I enjoy.
It doesn't really matter how fast you play, or how slow you play. Faster you play, it means that that the Lion will be more energetic, and the slower you play, it will be calmer, etc. This is great drumming if you ask me. Everyone was in sync. Keep it up! :)
THIS ONE! hahahah, nah buddy. No-one but Siow sifu can teach you proper Sar Ping, him or his disciples. Too many teams have cheap copied versions that are shit.
No its a wooden stick but it is a hard one.. The gong has a different pattern on the front its like a bunch of crosses.. Different to last one.. It does sound different. It sounds more crisp, if you hit it right.. I love it.
Just a quick comment on Dang San, I think you have played one too many set of drum clicks as compared to Siow Sifu's notes. Also, Charles said the cymbals for Dang San is not played loud anymore from teams in Malaysia, so the clicking can be heard properly.
Thats true, some play it with more some play with less. Also not all teams in malaysia play that way. But its true some are going quiet, some are not... Some are playing different so dim variations and Koot fa tau variations. Some I like, some I dont... Not to say that any are wrong.. Its all art, its all expression.. So its good to see the diversity. i like seeing new ideas etc.
very nice

It was a vietnamese one.. does it really matter?
At that time drums were incredibly hard to get into Australia, that's ALL we could get at the time.
