  • You are so lucky to be able to afford a hyacinth!!! I have always wanted one, but they are way out of my price range. He is very beautiful. Ruby seems to enjoy his company. The combination of all those colors is absolutely stunning!! If you read this, what part of the Carolina's are you from? I am from SC myself. Enjoy the birds!!

  • These two are awesome together.....I wish mine got along so well:)

  • Ruby is so cute, and Friday so amusing. <3 Aww, they don't need to say anything to be super entertaining.

  • Beautiful birds! Just curious...what kind of camera are you using?

  • What an explosion of colors!

I think the term is really "high four" when you're dealing with our four-toed parrot friends. ;)

From a monochrome (grey parrot) owner...

  • thay are qute

  • I want to know how so many people seem to be able to afford to feed the Hyacynth?? Someone told me just the nuts alone are about $250.00/month. Is that right?

  • @shaunnagunderson Hardly. Macaw treats at most should cost you 10 bucks a month . If you're paying 250, you are shopping at the wrong place.

  • @TheMuffinBurgler :D No, no.....not the treats;) There is apparently a specific nut they they must have in their diet that is quite costly.....I can never remember which nut it is......and I was told that they need about $250.00 worth of this particular nut each month. Do you know which nut I am talking about? Or has someone fed me a line of BS :/

  • @shaunnagunderson that is common nonsense, it is a Macadamia nut that you are thinking and those are from East Australia and Macaws are from South America, some smart idiot came up with it to rip off people who have money and it caught on ;-) Any nuts are great for them...

  • @TheMuffinBurgler What do you feed your Hyacinth?

  • @shaunnagunderson Hy's eat mostly palm nuts in the wild, but those can be tough to source for captive birds. There are a few suppliers now, but you can't just run down to your local pet supply store or supermarket to buy them. Instead of palm nuts you can feed macadamia's. Get the ones in the shell that haven't been processed, baked or seasoned. Expensive, yes, but not $250 a month. To feed both macaws runs about $125 a month, because they get only fresh fruit, veggies and nuts, no pellets.

  • @Meridianbengals That's very good to know! Thank you so much for clearing that up for me:D

  • @Meridianbengals Have you ever had a Macaw get a blood feather that needs to be pulled? I'm guessing it needs to be pulled. It's still 1/3 in the sheath and fresh blood in the sheath (not dried out). But it hangs off to the side unlike the others. She has never had one look like this :( I saw a report on how to pull a feather and I do alot of things with my birds but I don't think this is something I will just get in, and make it happen.

  • how much does each one of those cost?

  • RIOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Endangered Parrots, i feel bad for them.

  • @thehulkcoaster10 oh geeez, go hug a tree or something. Maybe you'll feel better.

  • @Meridianbengals Idiot, i'm not a gay person like that i was just saying that. I'm done talking in this video now so don't reply me if you do i wont look at it ill just delete it.

  • @thehulkcoaster10There is little we can do about the fact that people started breeding and keeping birds as pets. We can do all we can to make sure they go to responsible people who have the time to spend with them since they were born in captivity. We can also educate people about the commitment it takes to home an avian pet. It seems most people can't handle the responsibility of a dog or cat. A bird certainly isn't for everyone.

  • @thehulkcoaster10 Actually, the species is surviving because people want to keep them as pets and part of the family. Whilst I don't agree with them being taken from the wild, breeding in captivity ensures survival. What do you think zoos do with their endangered species?? And the rare pig species are surviving because we are using them as food. Why do you think we have so many cows and sheep etc.?? Because they're being cultivated for food for us.

  • @thehulkcoaster10 they aren't

  • @ImperviousMason how old are you, they were and they might still be

  • @thehulkcoaster10 the wikipedia page on scarlet macaws says that they are of "least concern"

  • @thehulkcoaster10 ai ragione specialmente gli ara blu .. sono quasi estinti azz .. non si dovrebbero tenere cosi ..

  • Where did you got does beatiful macaws they r great :D

  • awwwww how cute :3

  • Can macaws talk or can they just imitate sounds.

  • the hyacinth macaw is blue from Rio!

  • @birdluver184858 Blu is a Spix's Macaw which is very rare. Look it up.

  • @KH990j oh! i never would have known! ha! thats for telling me that!

  • PARROTS ARE CUTE

  • cool hyacinth macaw How much?

  • I love birds. But i'm scared of bigger ones like these two. I'll stick with my two little parrotlets :)

  • @TopRamenKickAss they really are intimidating, arent they? I have a Big 30 year old Scarlet and hes a big suck lol

  • How old is Friday?

  • Did you have these birds when they were both babies if so was it hard training them not to bite your hand I can only imagin the pain you would feel to have those beaks grip on to you oouch!

  • which one is more playful like loving and friendly of any macaw or yours?

  • my bird is scare of every thing new to him, was yours scared of the camera at first?

  • @frozenapple92 No not the camera, but they are both afraid of some new things. Cautious would probably be a more accurate word for how mine are with new things. They are both afraid of plastic grocery bags. No clue why, lol

  • how much did they cost you?

  • what size cage would you recommend for a hyacinth macaw

    example: ?x?x?

  • @kevinalan9 They are very big, so they need plenty of room and definitely should be given ample time outside of the cage daily. 72" high X 48" deep X 96" long would be a nice size, very similar to what we have and both birds are housed together.

  • I love their names! :D So Cute

  • They are beautiful

  • We are looking into getting a scarlet and a hyacinth to join our family. What are the differences in personality in your birds. Since it's such a huge investment and I don't want to make a bad choice for us or the birds ,,any advice?

  • @strsk8r The short answer to that is.....Scarlet's seems to be more one person birds, favoring one family member and not liking anyone else that much(at least with ours). Hy's seem to be friendly with everyone. Ours likes anyone that will pay attention to him.

  • AAAAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAWWWWWW!!!! They are sooooo SWEET! They look so healthy and loved! It feels so good to see such intelligent birds being cared for and loved as they should. Thank you for sharing this!

  • what food do you give to your lovely birds?

    zupreem?

  • @OMGxxSue These guys don't/won't eat pellets. They are fed an all natural diet as best we can manage. Fresh fruits and veggies everyday with a big variety of nuts.

  • They're beautiful and super cute!!! When I can afford it, I want one of each!!! Love Them!!!

  • They're beautiful and super cute!!! When I can afford it, I want one of each!!! Love Them!!!

  • 1:20 aww cute

i would love to have one but i wouldn't have time to look after it since i'm gardening

  • wow such big beautiful companions :)

  • someone has the hiccups lol

  • @Meridianbengals oh ok but still youre lucky

  • they're too big...well, really, they're beaks are too big and powerful...I've heard too many horror stories about owners and trainers being bitten by their large parrots, and loosing fingers, toes, or at the best of times, merely needing stitches...I love parrots, but the large ones terrify me xD;;

  • ruby likes the smell of fish

  • Stunning parrots...So very intelligent....

  • What stunning creatures...so colorful and comical

  • You have some truely beautiful birds there nice vid

  • GREAT BIRDS THEY SEEM SO FRIENDLY...

  • which one is younger the friday or ruby. I would say brand but they deserve to be called by name. Anyway, are they the same age or differ?

  • Those are amazing macaws.

  • awww ruby is so sweet and tolerant of that big foot on her head :)

  • I live in Australia and we called the pet shop and told the they said it was 15000 but I'm getting my one for 300

  • I am from IL and at our pet store we have a scarlet for $1500

  • holy crap how do ppl have the money for these things? that blue one is for sale in my area at a shop for $13,000

  • @cihore That's at the high end of the scale, but yes, they are one of the most expensive birds. Also one of the most endearing, gentle and friendly birds. Their rarity and wonderful personality drives the price up, unfortunately.

  • @Meridianbengals

It's also possible to find Hyacinths for very low prices, or even free, but the reason is fairly depressing. Basically, rich people with more money than brains sometimes buy them as status symbols, and when the novelty wears off, they realize they now have a massive bird on their hands requiring a LOT of time and attention, and that'll likely live to 60, 70, or even longer. Same thing often happens with palm cockatoos.

  • @cihore Thats kinda over priced... I can find them for $9,500...

  • Hello Back Ruby :P

  • ruby is one damn beautiful bird.WOW

  • @19cohen i know right i love her wings with the rainbow colors. And i am a fan of the Hya right there Friday also.

  • i am getting a sun conure parrot thats about a year old

  • 2:22 "Hey! I told her ass to move but she wont!"

  • just a quick questionn how much does it cost to buy a young scarlet macaw ??

  • @phoenixsong38 Depends what part of the country you are in. I'd say the range is $800 to $1400.

  • @Meridianbengals what if you live in houston texas?

  • @phoenixsong38 Adventures In Birds located in Houston Tx has or has a Hy for more than 10K. Google them. I love that place!

  • @Meridianbengals In Australia they are $15000

  • @phoenixsong38 If you're willing to take in a rescue bird, often times they're a lot cheaper just for the sheer numbers needing homes. They're not always problem birds. Sometimes their owners just have a significant lifestyle change that doesn't allow them to keep them anymore. There was a greenwing being offered for $300 something US recently amongst 8 others due to the owner being near death. My blue and gold and both cockatiels with their cages all came for free.

  • Lovely birds mate.

  • absolutely Beautiful! I have a scarlett and a blue and gold..Friday is amazing! What an usual couple:)

  • This is too cute! It's obvious that they're really comfortable with you. One day I hope to have an out door aviary myself.

  • Hi, I was jsut wondering how much would it cost to take care of a hyacinth macaw for a year, without the cost of the bird and cage

  • @SenyaSaysSo, Hyacinth are one of the more costly parrots in terms of food expense. Since palm nuts are very difficult to get, macadamia nuts are substituted and those are very expensive. Also he eats brazil nuts, walnuts and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Yearly cost will vary depending where you live, but I would estimate around $700 - $800 for our bird. That doesn't include toys!

  • @Meridianbengals

I'm curious how did you get that bird? I thought they couldn't be bought because some rule called CITES I think ...

  • @molinobeer No, they most likely can't be wild caught. Friday was hatched in captivity from legal parents who were also hatched in captivity.

  • they're both adorable! ><

  • don't hey cost up to $10,000 ?

  • Amazing birds! Does the accidental bite hurt?

  • i would love to have a hyacinth macaw but they are so endangered i could never actually get one without feeling a lil bad ( but thats just me)

  • How old is Friday?

  • @CarnalContessa He's getting close to a year old.

  • Hi Beautiful Macaws! BTW are you a Rolling Stones fan?

Just asking because of the name Ruby Tuesday for one of

    your Macaws! Great video!

  • @GhostofBrianJones, thank-you! Is there anyone who is not a Rolling Stones fan?

Ruby's name sort of evolved from just Ruby to Ruby Tuesday, courtesy of my wife. She tends to have multiple and embellished names for all of our pets.

    Given names and nick-names.

  • Very good! I shall look forward to more videos from you

with your beautiful Macaws! Thanks for your kind reply.

  • Wow these are just stunning, gorgeous birds...lovely...what do the cats think of them...and vice versa!?!?

  • @alilinzee, thank-you very much! The cats mostly ignore the birds since they are nearly as big as they are and very loud. I believe the cats dislike the squawking enough that they have no interest in getting a close inspection. The birds on the other hand would enjoy inspecting (biting) a cat's inviting tail. They co-exist well but there is no time when the birds are allowed around the cats unsupervised. More for the cats safety than the birds, as these are big birds with powerful beaks.

  • Ha ha...methinks you did not do any "dress rehearsals" with the camera first. :D

Lordy, what GORGEOUS creatures! Healthy, tame and sweet, too - I'm so jealous! :-)

I see there's another parrot upload today, too. As soon as I can get this to finish loading (what's up with that, BooToob?) so I can complete my viewing, I'm going to watch that one, too.

    Thanks. This was great. :-)

  • @nameofthepen, Nope no dress rehearsals, what you see is what you get.

My wife and I did do a rehearsal outside today though......a macaw race on the grass. That will be filmed and posted as soon as we have another nice sunny day. Ruby won the first heat by a half beak.
