I think your putting too many eggs in one basket. The internet is just as addictive as internet porn. People are all over face book, You Tube, R&R craigslist many others. Just look at the fat kids and you can see they are not active. The real truth is people today have been fearmongered. I've asked I many women if they would like to meet, that was their last email. People are scared to death. I do agree porn & sex is much more comercial today. Real sex much more scarce than it ever was.
@liellibg This video series is meant for 10-11 year old boys. Hopefully, ten year old boys are not using the internet to meet women, as you are describing. Our goal is to address only one egg - Interent porn use by pre-teen boys. If you want to read about Internet addiction read our article on Psychology Today - "Ominous News for Porn Users: Internet Addiction Atrophies Brains".
@Shark112 InnerGold does a good series on porn addiction. And Donald Hilton, a neurosurgeon, has a video, and 2 very good articles on porn addiction. I think both men are Mormons.
These are a very well produced and helpful series of videos targeted at young men who are indulging in pornography. However my only complaint is that they are solely aimed at males. Times have changed and women are now increasingly turning to porn. You have very traditional stereotypical ideas of males and females. It would have been more realistic to include females also as the culprits in porn consumption.
@TheFreakingRandom To determine if your growth is stunted, we would need to know how tall you would be if it wasn't stunted, and how would we do that? Even if there was a correlation (far as I know, there is not), we wouldn't be able to determine whether people who masturbate end up short, or people who will end up short masturbate more. What causes what? To figure this out, we would need to know which people masturbate - a very private matter.
@TheFreakingRandom, dude, any of those silly rumors you hear concerning that is a lie. But masturbation can be problematic if you become a porn addict.
Interesting video! It seems to be glossing over complex neurological reactions for the sake of narrative expediency. Could someone provide some citations for the data b/c I would like to read more on this. It was difficult to ignore the hetero-normative (male centered) bias in the video. Question: Does the brain work in a similar way when the potential coupling is homosexual and not related to reproduction? Has anyone seriously looked at the neuroscience of same sex attraction?
I thought it was designed for the young-ins too, but the claims in the video have peaked my interest. As an educational work, I would like to know the studies the video is relying on for its foundation. I am curious about what seems to be a completely unintentional homosexual erasure. Lesbian and Gay attraction is worth discussing too, even in an educational video for youth because ,presumably, at least some of the youth watching this will be LGBT youth.
@rks1978 Thanks for your thoughts. *sigh* Yes, it would have been ideal to do more to address youngsters who may be feeling leanings in non-hetero directions. That was beyond the scope of our mission, though, because we wanted to focus on the evolutionary drive that is behind *all* sexual desire, whatever orientation/preference it eventually takes. Hopefully, others who are better suited to the task will take on that delicate job for kids up to age 11.
Sorry if I was harsh. I hope that one day same sex desire will be treated as normative in sex-ed classes, rather than something that is not talked about at all or worse treated as an aberration. Same sex desires would be starting at the same time as hetero ones. (Even at 11) An initial helping hand telling them that they are normal and that their desires are as valid as their peers would be a welcome change from the hate and de-legitimization that permeates youth culture.
@rks1978 There is a vast amount of science confirming the idea that impulses emanate from the limbic system, while impulse control emanates from the frontal cortex. All decisions seem to depend on their interaction. The space (and link) limitations here prevent much detail about relevant research, but you may find this little write-up of some interest if you google it: "Brain Chemistry Research and P**rn"
Thank you for the response! This looks very interesting and I can't wait to read some of the studies. I assume that JSTOR or EBSCOHost may have some articles as well. As someone who is an aspiring in social scientist, having dabbled in the sociology of gender and sexuality, I enjoy hard science articles that refute, challenge and enrich sociological theories on desire and the formation of our sexual identities and to a lesser extent gender.
I wish some one had explained all this to me when I was a lot younger :(

I am religious and find this interesting, but find it depressing that Christians have not produced anything similar of the same quality, or better.

Does masturbating make you shorter or stunt growth ?? Plz reply

@TheFreakingRandom
I'm not aware of any studies on masturbating and growth. I doubt it would have any appreciable effect, but that's just a guess.
