  • Black people whine great.

  • i love how ruggered this sounds

  • This is definitely Hooker. A lot of the records he made for the little garage labels around Detroit in '49-'50 sound like this.

  • ...a lot of his 40s and 50s recordings are way more distorted than this

obviously he's incorporated lightnins style... the lyrical themes are lightnin too - of all the impersonations of hopkins, i think JLH's is rare in that he outdoes even Hopkins himself

  • must be a very young John Lee, Great blues anyway

  • Excellent music sang and played from the heart....the best sound would be the c.1948 original on 78rpm!

  • The sound reproduction on this recording is very bad. I am having a hard time even believing that this JLH. The guitar sounds somewhat like Hooker but the voice sounds more like Lightnin' Hopkins. Could be just the bad recording making it sound that way. I'm going to be looking for a better copy of this song. Thanks for posting it anyway.

  • @kpasa111: I think you're right. The version of this song that has in the album I have is just like this. He sounds terribly hoarse, and there is this noise in the background that just makes difficult to listen. If you ever find a better version please tell me.

  • @CaptainUmagon Was this not released by John Lee Hooker under the pseudonym of Texas Slim?

  • @kpasa111 I agree!
