You recall in the New Testament, St. Paul condones slavery. So according to Jackson's litmus test for morality, the bible, we can re institute slavery and remain moral. Also, there is a difference between not allowing brothers and sisters to marry. The offspring turn out to be Republicans. The fact that two men cannot procreate is a point in favor of gay marriage. And again, not every marriage performed supports the possibility of producing children.
Marion Barry is about as moral as a snake. How could anyone take him for being a moralist. His behavior on the DC council is still questionable. So this old fool needs to sit down and shit the F*ck up.
Any person that is a bible fundamentalist is mostly anti-gay, fundamentalists are generally not as educated
i was down there watching this circus. First off Brotha man needs to mind his own business and worry about whats happening in Maryland.
I remember him spouting lies the second he opened his bigot mouth. Love how he spoke For gay folks telling them how They feel..".they chosse being gay"for starters. Murien Burry should be ashamed of himself for being in this side show.
People forget so fast! That, or they just wanted a chance to play opressor as well. A good portion of their language was stolen from old white racists.
As a African American I am in complete shock.. How dare they sing "We Shall Overcome" A song that was song to symbolize peace, and turn it around to preach hate. Wow!!!
How dare these people preach and sing hate. Such hypocrites. But wait, isn't these the same people from the 60s trying to get equal right for african americans when society was saying that blacks have no right to vote, eat in the same resturaunts and can't attend the same schools as white people because "God" wanted it that way?
As an educated, professional and culturally "in-tune" person who has travelled around the world and has been around many types of people. Also as a an African-American male I think that it is absurd and downright ludicrous that these ignorant "puppets" get on here openly showing their hate, disregard and ignorance about a group of people they know not a fuckin thing about. They have the ordacity to use religion to justify their hatred and belive and try to force feed that foolishness on others
I dont want to be racial cuz im not a racist in any way. But why are black ( i guess relegious ) people against the human rights when 60 years ago they didnt even had them . It like humanety needs some 1 to pick at. And now gay people are getting "bullied" by this system.
This just shows that people need to desperately put down the bible, and pick up and education. It's the lack of understanding among us, and the lack of looking at things in a different perspective, that causes unnecessary divisions. Happily, equality prevailed and Washington D.C now has rights for same sex! And looking at some of the comments, I have to say that we need to remember to not generalize. No entire race is the same. I say that as a straight african american supporter of gay rights.
It's so sad to think that EVERY race and religion was oppressed at one time. Time and time again these groups have gotten their rights and always the simple message is never again yet here we are repeating history and discriminating luckly we the LGBTQ community WILL get our rights
I most enjoyed the part where "homosexual lifestyles" were equated with lying, stealing, and sexually abusing small children. A perfect crap-cherry on a shit-cake of hypocritical, morally bankrupt rhetoric.
Great words of wisdom from a prostitute peddling, drug addict. Barry should be ashamed to show his face, and the nerve. Since overwhelming % of blacks are anti-gay, maybe blacks should've stayed "in the closet".Gays, like blacks have resorted to the political process endearing of this nations' beliefs to address our grievances. Blacks don't like the association because of their hatred of gays.Who inspired MLK? Gandhi! I wonder how many blacks know of gay Bayard Rustin and '63 March?
They perpetuate the same hateful rhetoric that was used to deny some of them the right to marry who they loved ......"immoral", "against God", "against nature". Remember??
Just as recent as last month in Louisiana an interracial couple was denied a marriage license by justice of the peace Kieth Bardwell. And yet blacks shamefully still support this hateful agenda.
"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it."
BLACK PEOPLE PREACHING ABOUT THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE?? What a joke! It is YOU who make a mockery of God and marriage.
You speak of immorality -- statistics show that in 2005 nearly 70% of black women who gave birth were UNMARRIED.
Instead of preaching your BS and trying to tear down gay people, why don't you do something positive and constructive with your time and go out and help your own community which is in dire need of uplifting.
please pay no mind to the retard behind the cheap suit. vote for freedom, and protest impositions to it. thank you for posting. apparently these folks believe that we shall over come the purpose of the constitutional seperation of church and state. they stand for there idea of freedom... which does not include you.

It is likely that he wouldn't be there if it weren't for the people who were not of his marginalized group defending him and sticking up for his rights when his marginalized group had none.
Yes, hit and run black males that impregnate women isn't a civil right either. This is really something. Isn't it interesting that a people so oppressed are now "dehumanizing" gay people of all colors. I guess blacks are employing "Stalinization" of whites and gays that marched forty-five years ago. Bayard Rustin, a black homosexual was largely responsible for the March of Washington in 1963. MLK took his fire because they didn't want a queer in front row on the Freedom Rider buses.
Using "We shall overcome," the anthem of the civil rights movement, at a rally to protest against expanding the rights of others is the saddest piece of irony I've ever seen.
what are they overcoming by stopping people who aren't them from getting married? I remember reading something in the bible that said slavery was a "sacred right" too. hmmm.....
Im watching Barry call himself "moral" from his soap box in dc... im just curious- when you are arrested for smoking crack with a prostitute, arrested again for having drugs (cocaine and marijuana) in your car, arrested for tax evasion twice, and then arrested for stalking a woman- can you sill call yourself moral? Or should he maybe rethink this? So glad these preachers use Barry to help support their views- it goes along way in helping illustrate the class of people that deny equality to all
Hi excuse me !!we were persecuted!! you know how we got the Triange symbol? because they made gay jewish people wear them to identify them in nazi concentration camps..where they were then put to death in various inhuman ways....so what about gay black african americans? its ok for them to bitch...but white, latino, asian, ect can't? and say being gay is not like being black...please!
what is discouraging about this is not only does it promote evil. what is more profound is that many of these people or bigots actually attended The Great March on Washington in 1968. To quote Mrs Coretta Scott King. " There is room at the table for everyone". I would like to also acknowledge the latter quote of ellencatalina above. You are so right on!
What revolting human beings, whining "We Shall Overcome" self-righteously while attacking Gay people. Don't these people understand that the Gay struggle is just as important as the Black struggle was 40 years ago?
I'll bet that if you added up the IQ scores of every person at the rally, you might come up to about 75. And Marion Barry is nobody to talk about morality.
If in the future the concensus arises among Psychiatrists that Homosexuality is a treatable disorder (as was the concensus before 1973) this type of law will look awfully primitive and ignorant of basic human nature. And I say this as a left leaning person. The problem with those who are opposed to homosexual priviledges is that they constantly emphasize the bible telling them it is wrong. In the long term this is not effective. Until they become more science based their influence remains weak
being ignorant is a choise my brotha... "Marriage is under attack!. blah blah blah..." Marriage worst enemy is Divorce... as far as i know the bible doesnt say " when you get tired of partner go ahead divorce... however it says "what god gets together men cant separate"
so who is the hypocite?
If you dont believe in same-sex marriage, then dont marry a person of the same sex... DUH!!!!
Yes, in the fine tradition of the civil rights movement these people are going to work very, very hard to make sure homosexuals don't have the same rights as everyone else. These people have discgraced the spirit of the civil rights movement.
Singing We Shall Overcome for a hate rally is a slap in the face to the REAL champions of the Black Struggle, who fought to end discrimination, not to uphold it. These lost souls and pompous pastors are mere shadows of the Freedom Fighters, and they do not deserve an iota of respect for this debacle. How many rallies have they held to save Darfur?
So I guess these idiots want gay black men to marry their daughters.
Barry the Bigot? Yeah-It certainly seems that way... But I will try to forgive. Why,-because he does'nt know any better,& believes through "warped views" concerning religionism that "Gay people" are against God. Ya know, it's funny-white people (at one time) said similar things in regards to African people. That they were unfit for marriage, unholy etc. Sadly many of those (whom said such things were christian.) I saw their behavior concerning this recognition issue on T.V, and felt ashamed.
I think somebody needs to relive what its like not to be able to use the same bathrooms. You have been able to go to our schools for awhile now. You would think u would know better than to use the same religion that was used to oppress you and use it on other minorities. Yeah it looks like you have "overcome". Way to join the group of people that you used to call master. Truthfully, we'd prolly already be allowed to be married if blacks STILL couldnt vote. since when have u been able to marry?
They also sound a lot like the racist white people who tried to stop the civil rights movement. There was a lot of talk about how giving blacks equal rights would destroy the culture. Now these people have just shit all over the spirit of the civil rights movement by using the same rhetoric.
These are the most disgustingly overweight people I've seen in a long time. Can't they resist their "disgusting and perverted instinct" to gorge themselves on fattening foods all day long?
Nothing like have a 4 times married crack head stumping for morality and marriage.
You sick people need help. Get some security, please. Gays are no threat to anyone. Marion Barry should be ashamed. You weren't present? I hoped you would recover well, now I'm not sure I should have. Mr. Barry, if you believed in human rights, you would believe that all DC residents DESERVE EQUAL RIGHTS, at ALL levels.
"homosexual activists want to destroy the biblical values and moral standards"
Yes because gay and lesbian couples trying to get married are seeking to destroy marriage and tradition, not just participate in it.
Asshole.
"Being gay is the same as being black?"
Try being human you lousy bigot. You are the pervert--a pervert of the words of Jesus Christ, who accepted and loved all how they were created by God, and for who they are.
I almost have to feel sorry for any group desperate enough to feature MARION "That Bitch Set Me Up" BARRY as one of their main standard-bearers. Boy, if Cora Masters (formely Cora Masters Barry) had ever written the book on their relationship, I'll bet you wouldn't see this debauched crackhead whoremonger baring his face in public THIS much!
I hate the sign that read "think about the children." I AM one of those children--the child of a gay woman who couldn't accept herself because of the Christian influences in her life. I want you to leave my mother alone! Let her divorce her husband--it's been a miserable marriage! Let her marry her girlfriend! They BELONG together. They're HAPPY together! Stop denying them to each other.
And thank you so much, "lekesha" for representing black women in a way that continues to convince me, that if I were straight I would DEFINITELY want to have a wife who was ANYTHING other than black!!!
What a disturbingly naive statement. Black people like you are the reason scum bags like Marion Barry continue to exist and the reason bigotry exists. Black people will.. now or later... have to stand on their own and drop the black crutch. Pathetic
On 6/12/07, Mildred Loving issued a public statement on the 40th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia decision of the US Supreme Court.
"I believe all Americans, no matter their race, no matter their sex, no matter their sexual orientation, should have that same freedom to marry. Government has no business imposing some people's religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people's civil rights. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and Loving, are all about."
"Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages."
----True enough, being Gay is not the same as being Black. That's always been a false equation. But to discriminate againt a gay person because they are Gay is as every bit as absurd as discriminating against a Black person because he/she is Black. We can, and should, note the absurdness in discriminating in both cases.
Actually it's both, there is the religious definition of marriage and there is the legal contract. As a Christian I believe in the sanctity of marriage in the church. As a social liberal I believe in equal treatment under the law. People must be educated about the difference and it must be explained to them that marriage equality would not interfere with the right of their church to define marriage however they saw fit.!!
No it is not both. What someone decides to do in their church, synagogue, mosque, or where ever is over and above the legal definition of marriage. G-d should not enter into the marriage debate. The Bible should not enter into the marriage debate. It is strictly a legal contract, everything else is extra and not necessary for a marriage to be binding by law. This debate is not about weddings in a place of worship it is about rights. 1138 right to be exact, conveyed by the word marriage.
I believe MLK is as well, especially because his long time friend and right hand man Bayard Rustin was gay and believed in equal/civil rights for all Gods children.
This to me is a non-issue. If you don't agree with marriage equality, don't marry someone of the same sex! As a school teacher, I don't ever recall reading/citing the words..."with liberty and justice for ALL" and seeing the word, "except". Separate but equal does not, has not and should not work. We can not "eenie meenie miney moe" through our neighborhoods and point to who is allowed marriage or not. As a christian and American, I am for equality, love, and acceptance for all human life:)

And, let's not forget this one...
"Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages."
Coretta Scott King

----True enough, being Gay is not the same as being Black. That's always been a false equation. But to discriminate againt a gay person because they are Gay is as every bit as absurd as discriminating against a Black person because he/she is Black. We can, and should, note the absurdness in discriminating in both cases.

Marriage is not defined by G-d. It is a social contract created by civil authorities.
poz2some 2 years ago 6
Actually it's both, there is the religious definition of marriage and there is the legal contract. As a Christian I believe in the sanctity of marriage in the church. As a social liberal I believe in equal treatment under the law. People must be educated about the difference and it must be explained to them that marriage equality would not interfere with the right of their church to define marriage however they saw fit.!!
plutogirllovekj 2 years ago 5
