  • i do not understand why we are still using the M16 and M4, they are proven systems but now seem out dated. the familiar controls that relate to the SCAR system would give our troops the ease of switching

  • money, money and money is why we still use the M16 series

  • @MrMutterficher how much do you think it would cost to switch systems.

But the US are looking for a new standard infantry rifle.

  • Its a sexy rifle, although I wonder why it wasnt made in bullpup configeration as from what i understand it helps weapon stability. I've used an SA80A2 which was bullpup and found it better than a regular type of rifle, can anyone think of why they didnt do it beside design limitations?

  • Ease of use, familiarity, and training. The closer it is to the AR platform, the easier it is for soldiers to pick it up. Most SOCOM guys have drilled into muscle memory AR controls.

  • From what I hear, Bullpups are harder to reload due to the placement of their magazine

  • @0megakill Better familiarity with controls- easier to move to another weapon which requires similar muscle memory

  • i think it looks sweet in black. and i enlsited in the Marine Corps and i leave for boot 6 July 09. i KNOW ill never see the Corps with this great weapon. if they make it with a 6.5 or 6.8 SPC round its almost perfect

  • agreed, maybe a better design, not unlike the G36 rifles (folding charging handles). however, i do think that we are seeing the inception of the newest US operating assault rifle. step aside M-16/M-4 here is your replacement. Kinda sad about it, but enthused at the same time.

  • I dont get it... whats the advantage of a reciprocating charging handle? It is just asking to get snagged on something IMO

  • increased reliability from the fact that it is less likely to misfeed

  • yes, most modern weapons that have one are detachable handles. I am not sure why they used one that cannot be removed.

  • No real advantage...you can use it as a forward assist I guess.

With that said, plenty of great rifles have one. AK's, Sig 5xx, m14, and so forth.

  • the two advantages of the reciprocating charging handle are considerable though.

it greatly simplifies the assembly of the bolt and it acts as a forward assist if needed.

  • chamber it in 6.5 grendel and its perfect!

  • anyone know if the MarSOC combat detachments will use the SCAR? Since they are part of SOCOM, i think they will but its never for sure.

  • Which scope is that?

  • Scope is a Leupold Mk. CQT. Great piece of Gear.

  • i really want one.

  • I have to get one of those.

  • are these only showcased or for just expensive buyers or just military use only?

  • On February 2006, at the Las Vegas SHOT Show in Nevada, FNH announced plans to introduce within two years (ca. 2008) a semi-automatic version of the SCAR modular rifle system, designed for the law enforcement and commercial markets.

  • looks like a winner
