Hi, just changed the carb on my tecumseh snowblower with a new one, but when I press the primer gas leaks out of the carb and it won't start. thanks again
Thanks fo the great video. I was not able to start the blower despite trying all the suggestions I had heard. I watched your vido, cleaned out the carb and it started on first pull.
Thanks so much for posting this. I knew close to nothing about small engines, but was able to take apart the carb easily and get it going again. Must've just been bad guess in the hoses and all that. Only problem remaining is that it doesn't want to run if I turn the choke off.
ok so i have a carb on a 2007 mower and alot of gas leaks out through a red straw that is in center of the air filter. the mower will start but i have to push the primer to keep it on. i have cleaned the carb
what about running bad and stalling when hot? runs fine when cold for about 10 min then starts stalling. find myself jumping down to turn it to choke to save it from stalling then back to half choke to run. real problem it didnt act like this two of the 6 times ive used it.
My snowblower is similar to yours, the carb has the center part where when you press it, the fuel comes out. My problem is when I press the primer the blower actually runs, but it doesn't stay on. I tried taking out most of the fuel and mixed in some Seafoam, and still the same. When I prime it does start, but it doesn't stay on. If I keep on going like this, the muffler actually gets warm so it is sort of working, The problem is just it doesn't stay running. Please HELP ME. :(
Some nice vids, I might be doing that this summer. My beat up Ariens ST504 always needed 2/3 choke to run, until recently. A few weeks ago it needed full choke, and eventually I was pumping the primer just to keep it running.
I pulled the main jet, cleaned and re-installed it and now it runs like a champ ^_^
But I plan to finish the job this summer. I'll probably install a new line, and add a fuel filter and shut off if I can find them.
Know what part of the carb would cause the snowblower to be like a Harley Davidson at a stoplight (you know, Broooom... Broooom..... Broooom) it's not running consistent at all it just keeps revving and pausing. When it starts to warm up I have to keep turning up the choke (I should be turning it down) to keep it running? I found this video the best, and performed the cleaning but my issue is still there. Thanks
@donyboy73 Thank you so much, I cleaned the carb again watching this video repeatedly and intently (cleaning each hole with a pin, letting things soak) and now it runs like new! It used to rev then pause, rev then pause, I had to keep choke on full to just keep it running. After cleaning it exactly like you (each tiny hole and using a wire brush) now it's like new. No more cutouts, no more keeping choke on full to keep it running, I have power again! Thank you so much, this is the best!
I just got done rebuilding my first carb(off a 1980 toro 421). Thank you so much for your videos, they really helped me a lot. I do have a question for you, when I have it on choke and the lever in the idle position it runs pretty good, but when I try to take it off choke it sputters and dies, you think its a matter of tuning???(sorry if you have answered this question already since I know its a pretty common question)
THANK-YOU! I figured that learning how to clean a carburetor (instead of paying some one else to) was something that belonged in Manhood 101 but never had the opportunity until now. Your video was a big help and worked like a charm. Perhaps, the only thing that could have been a little more helpful would have been to pinpoint ALL of the holes that could be gummed up. I missed one on my first attempt, took it apart again and studied in more detail, and got it working the second time.

@ror3dracer01 what engine? check the carb gasket and needle
donyboy73 11 months ago
@donyboy73 all the gasket are fine the needle and jets are clear
its a toro 6.5 hp vertical shaft FWD drive mower
it looks to me like a overflow system for gas?
all the gas runs out through that straw
when i blow on the gas intake air comes out the straw not the jet
plugging the straw make the air come through the needle
would leaving that straw plug solve this?
ror3dracer01 11 months ago
@ror3dracer01 don't plug the straw, chech the float to make sure there is no gas inside. i have vids on that repair
donyboy73 11 months ago
@donyboy73 wasnt the float found out the jet was clean on the sides not the top no more gas leaks
but the engine does not stay on by itself. its a fixed speed motor

@Clydesdale2045 usually they all do that. it should run without choke when warm.
