...only in america (and somalia, of course). I love this guy. The first show host I believe showing real emotions. If only there would be more of them.
are you fucking kidding me really you have to pay for somebody who was hired to fucking fight fire and save lives to come save your ass, thats bullshit what the fuck would happen if somebody had died or been seriously injured? complete 100% bullshit
How can these firefighters stand there and watch the fire burn the house down. Don't they have any compassion. Don't they feel guilt and remorse or do they don't care. Did they become firefighters for the paycheck?
You aren't allowed to die in the street unless you have paid road improvement taxes. In cases like that, you are respectuflly asked to proceed directly to the landfill for dying purposes.
@FFJemgum Do you have a national fire service? Who pays for the fire service in your country. This is not "America", this is one small part of a county. This is a very rare situation and not the way the fire service functions in 99% of America.
Funny how these people are complaining about "fire departments can't work for free", yeah of course they can't, that is where your tax dollars should be going, not some stupid fee. And the United States claims to be the "land of the free"...
And this is Why my Fire Department, THAT I OWN, offers a Free service to Home Owners like this that did not or forget to pay for Fire Service and it's Bullshit saying they would have lost there jobs and the Fire Service is not like the army if someone would have grabbed a line and started putting the house out no one have did anything to him,
@Firefighter5130 Hey man, that sounds awesome! Does the town you live in have you as the fire chief?? How does that work? That really is cool! Just keepin em safe brother, I love it but you gotta tell me how I can do this
@Firefighter5130 You OWN a "Fire Department"?? I seriously doubt that you own a Fire Dept. and are so ignorant as to think you can just do what ever you want in an area that is not in your jurisdiction. What's the "Fire Department" name and what area do you serve? I call BS.
have did anything to him, and it's a State in the South bunch of morons anyway making you pay for fire service, If I told one of my Men to Not put out a House fire and they did it anyway I would say that those men had the balls to take control and do the right thing. All they talk about in the South is what would god do, and it would not have been sit there and do nothing.
Just incase people dont know, a Fire Fighter does not have the right to disobey an order...its not like a normal job, itrs more similar to the army. On the fire ground you have no right to disobey a direct order. What this jackass is saying is that all those fire fighters should have lost their careers, and the ability to feed their families, because another jackass didnt wanna pay 75 bucks. Seriously 75 bucks... He gambled and lost. Its sad, but he chose not to pay!
Thats why there should not be options in EMS. You should be forced to pay the fee and get the service. Its part of your taxes, you pay it and you get it. OPTING out just leaves the wrong people catching the heat. The home owner knew the risk, he chose to gamble it. Had there been a standard service, they would have paid it in thier taxes, and they would have got the service... Sad, should never be an option really.
Bottom line is, they dont make the ru les, they follow them, the city mayor and coucil make the rules. So they follow thier orders like everyone else does. If the Mayor says dont fight the fire if the owner hasnt paid, then the chief will enforce that. If they did fight it, - poeople would be like hell Im not paying and will just gamble I dotn catch fire, if I do get a fire, they will fight it anyways
@john6218att I didn't mean a literal protection racket as in 'shame if anything happened to your house' but charging people for a service they have already paid for from their taxes is the same in principle 'pay up or we let your house burn' is an unspoken threat.
@specialcircumstancer These people DON'T PAY ANYTHING in taxes for fire protection!!! They've turned down fire levies SEVERAL TIMES. The city offers fire protection to them since they are OUTSIDE of their jurisdiction for a VERY reasonable fee of $75. There is NO threat, just a good will offer made to individual citizens since the rural county area has no FD of their own and REFUSE to fund one through taxes.
@boothy296 No, it's a shit fucking county government that refuses to establish a fire dept. to protect it's citizens. You need to get the REAL and COMPLETE story for someone other than the dumbass Leftist idiot in the video.
Why would they want to gamble with their own safety? Like you say it is too bad for them, their loss as far as arson for profit the day his barn went up he had just left to get some parts for his sears riding mower which was just outside the door he claims it must have bacfired next to the 2 bales of hay that had 5 gals of gas sitting on them,we are 5 minutes away and it was on the ground when we pulled up he was employed as a paid FF in our state,CT, on the sub-base a real pro..LOL
We have automatic mutual aid response for all structure fires from neighboring towns and if need be out of state dept's and we all work together some fire taxes are billed seperately others are included in property taxes depending on the town when the job is done we go home knowing we did our best to help someone less fortunate than us the guy who's barn burnt in our town was a former 20 yr member who we canned for stealing among other things and had 3 other fires all occur when he wasn't home
@john6218att 3 other fires when he wasn't home? Can you say arson for profit?? Again, your system is nothing like the system down there. Again, these people outside of the city limits have REPEATEDLY turned down levies and taxes to pay for fire protection. The city doesn't even have to offer protection at any price. They could tell them they can't leave city limits. They've offered the best solution they can. If people still refuse to pay, it's on them.
This asshole has no idea how fire depts. function, or the difference between city and county jurisdictions. It also has NOTHING to do with Republicans or Democrats, or Christians for that matter. It has to do with LAW, which everybody who's pissed at the FD, seems to ignore. Maybe these COUNTY residents will finally pass a levy or tax to pay for fire protection, something they have repeatedly refused to do. If they did that, the CITY FD would respond without a question, problem solved.
Extortion: Law. the crime of obtaining money or some other thing of value by the abuse of one's office or authority. Extortion (also called shakedown, outwresting, and exaction) Most states define extortion as the gaining of property or money by almost any kind of force, or threat of 1) violence, 2) property damage, 3) harm to reputation, or 4) unfavorable government action... Nuff said..
well Mr Know it all, I've been in the fire/ems here in CT for 28 yrs now and WE Don't Discriminate WE Help, people less fortuate than ourselves if it were YOUR house and you were in their shoes how would you feel? Do you belong to any fire dept? We have people who haven't paid their fire taxes for a few years in a row and one of them had their barn catch on fire, we still responded along four other depts and put it out, sounds like you need to take YOUR brains and do some crunching...
@john6218att And I bet those people who haven't paid taxes are now subject to tax liens and could lose their property anyway. Which is ENTIRELY different from a subscription service like that down south. You are comparing apples and oranges my freind. This type of service is extremely rare in the US. It's not discrimination BTW. How would you feel if you were a city taxpayer and your house was on fire but the FD was taking care of someone who hadn't paid a dime while yours burned?
@firetruckie101 awesome analogy, and half of these people on here can sit on their computers safe at home and criticize these firefighters, but dont have the balls to risk their lives everyday running into a burning building while others are running out
The commentator cannot say markets are at fault for this tragic situation because it is a fire department from a CITY GOVERNMENT. There is no system of market fire departments here. A market fire department would have gladly accepted the offer of the homeowners to pay for the service. Please read "Did the Free Market Burn the House Down" by Jeffrey Tucker. Disclosure: I am not a conservative or a Republican.
@JranEQ the fire dept had nothing to do with this, you meant that you dont agree with the mayor, city managers, council etc... they make the rules, and all those fire fighters were following them.
@specialcircumstancer A protection racket??? Not hardly. You can't buy a fire axe for $75 dollars. New firetrucks start at 200K, and that's just the truck without hose and equipment. $75 is an absolute bargain.
the Fire Fighters should be ashamed of them selves, well we're just doing what we're told, because we don't have BALLS OR BRAINS to think for themselves, W T F
@john6218att How do you expect a fire dept. to function for free? Maybe you should take your brains and price fire equipment and fuel and then figure out how to pay for that with only $75 per homeowner. Crunch those numbers and see if you can do it. The homeowners should be ashamed of themselves for being too cheap to pay the 75.
@ffjsb Are you slow or what? Did you not see they were at the property standing around? Do you not realize that 30-40% of our money goes to taxes? To add additional fees for safety services is extortion. If our taxes do not cover basic safety then it's not the citizens fault, it's the government & how they have spent it. There is nothing different from what they did here than thugs coming into your home & telling you pay them $75 for protection. Safety is not a luxury in America!
@samoanpunch I think you might be the one who is slow, or at least ignorant. The homeowner is a COUNTY resident, the FD is a CITY dept.. County residents DO NOT PAY ANY FIRE TAXES, thus the $75 FEE. (which is probably less than taxes would be) These county residents have REPEATEDLY voted down levies that would provide fire protection without subscription fees. It's THEIR fault, and they admitted it.
@ffjsb Ignorant huh? Nothing you sated changes a damn thing about having the decency to help your neighbor instead of standing there w/ the means to help them & choosing not to. If it were a jurisdiction issue they wouldn't have come out. If it were a money issue they would have helped then billed the county or the home owner as they asked. Fuck your so called righteous laws, WTF ever happened to just being a good person & helping your neighbor?? Your laws trump kindness??
@samoanpunch Some of the neighbors had payed their fees, that's why they came out to prevent it from spreading to those houses. If they just came out, nobody would pay. They aren't obligated to come out at all. They could just say, start your own FD, but they offer service for a (very) reasonable fee. Kindness doesn't pay for fire trucks. I just spec'd a truck that costs over 500K, and that's not counting the hose and tools. That's another 60K. Maybe if you were a FF you'd know.
@ffjsb That's your problem is you're seeing it as a personal attack. Maybe it is if all you care about is money which it certainly sounds like. Or maybe you just dont understand economics because the only people that don't respect the work of FFs & medics are the ones cutting the checks. Do you even understand how much the gov is screwing you all?? How much of our taxes is wasted on nonessential CRAP? Try trillions. Our schools cut, FF cut, Police cut & you all fight US the taxpayers!
@samoanpunch You still don't understand ANYTHING about how Fire and EMS systems works. Your knee jerk reactions aren't based on any facts just emotions. Now you're going off on the government and other things that have nothing to do with the topic. And BTW, the people who's house burned down DIDN'T PAY ANY FIRE TAXES. They wanted a dept who's funded by OTHER taxpayers to provide services for FREE. They were cheap and it backfired on them. They could afford it no problem when they needed it.
@ffjsb How come it is hard to not include this on the taxes where everyone will have to pay. Stupid policy. Reason why we have this fire departments because funded by the ****ing public.
@panzerchaos47 The citizens outside of the city where the fire dept. is have continually voted down any tax levies for fire protection. I can tell you I pay a lot more than $75 for my fire protection.
They coul've at least saved the house and then make them pay $75, i think that you shouldn't even have to pay $75! How desperate for money are they? holy fuck the mayor and firefighters are stupid. If i was one the firefirhgters i would be like "fuck you guys, im taking down this fire!"
Any one that says they should have put it out is a fucking idiot. If they did put it out. No one would pay their fire dews and the department would have shut down because they are a contracted department and don't get paid from the county or state and from then on all other fires wouldnt be put out cause the firemen are out of jobs. Shut the Fuck up and pay your bills you dumb mother fuckers. These firemen were right in every way
First of all what the fuck are people paying taxes for, for fucks sake?
What's next? Doctors not saving people if you have no isurance? Oh wait...
America is a joke.
If that shit happened to me i would burn down the houses of the mayor, the fire chief and as many firefighters as i could before they caught me and then let the state pay for my accomodation for the next decade or two.
I am not even kidding, if all my shit burned because of something like this i would not give a fuck anymore.
thats fucking bullshit i work with a volunteer fire department an ill be damned if we set around an watch some ones fucking house burn just because they didnt pay or not hope u get yours in the end pieces of shit
@BuckMasterJE89 i am also a volunteer firefighter, but in some of the towns outside my area the fire departments are struggling to keep there doors pen cause the people in the town don't want to pay for a fire service.
judging by the look of there truck in the video that department is struggling to keep there equipment up to date and in service
The guy bitches but but he coulda just paid the 75 dollars, was prolly bitchin about them wanting the money, shoulda paid, you want them to risk their lives to save your shit but its not worth $75, fuck off
im sure the dude that showed up to the fire house and assulted the firefighter got 1 hell of a ass wipping from the whole crew... from the looks of the fire truck they dont run much fire which means they might have been able 2 save the house neways... podunk fire depo. lol
When a barn caught fire in a Canadian town we were shooting a film in, the fire trucks couldn't reach the barn because it was up a remote muddy hill. All the locals brought out their farm equipment to dig up earth and dump it out the fire to try to help smother it. It's amazing that people can sympathize with an inept bureaucratic system more than a fellow human being in need.
It's fair, they didn't want insurance now they suffer the consequences. That's like you faggots not buying a lotto ticket but wanting a share of the winnings. GTFO pay your insurance next time.
I live in Canada where all of this is payed through taxes. It's truly a better system where you can count on things such as your fire department or medical help to come through. So the system is a problem that should be fixed.
But you know what, it's the peoples fault for not paying the $75. They knew that it was a risk if they didn't pay it and they thought "it won't happen to me".
Stop being afraid of Socialism America. It's time to smarten up and know when Socialist ideas are better.
I'm a firefighter at a station that does not do this, however I think its a good idea. It's only 75 bucks a year and that helps us buy equipment and pays for upkeep. This city's policy however is dangerous you need to respond and make sure there is nobody inside and then contain the fire to that home and put it out if the homeowner is willing to pay 2500 an hour for use of equipment and manpower. I mean we risk our lives for you people, is 75 bucks a year really to much to ask for that?
The correct to have done is save the house, and then charge the family the actual costs of the rescue. It would likely be in the thousands, but both sides would have won.
check my heisman remix out sub and leave comments about it..pretty tragic shit u basically gotta be rich in this world to survive through it read the ILLUMINATTI it tells you everything
i live in a town where we have paid and vol. who work together even if are people didnt pay we are firefighters and luv to help people these firefighters are not real firefighters they are pieces of shit and need there ass whipped I am a glynn county vol. firefighter in Georgia
Some people on the far Right need to understand that they're no different than the far Left. Extreme capitalism leads to the same place as extreme socialism: the powerful few reigning over the downtrodden masses. Different methods, same results. There needs to be a healthy balance. Socialism should be the domain of the necessities, while capitalism should be the domain of the luxuries.
All residence know the rules. Taxes are not paid to sustain the FD. They need the fee to assure the equipment and personnel are available. If they respond to a non-subscriber, then why would anyone pay. The service isn't free!! Fire engines cost over $400,000. Turnout gear is $4000 each. If the community doesn't like their system, they can vote for a tax referendum so it's assured EVERY property owner pays a share. If there was a life-safety issue (someone trapped), it's policy to respond an
I'm moderate conservative but I absolutely agree with the young turks on this one!! The firefighters should have just put out the fire and then charge the man with 75 bucks as a bill!! This has nothing to do with politics! Its common sense!
He should have payed the money when the bill came. Cheap idiot. I mean, if this is the system they want, then this is the system they have to live with.
Thats so messed up put the fire out and then bill them for the money. Seems like all that mayor cares about is putting money in his pocket. They should have done something about that and that family should sue for damages and stuff the lost.
TYT network, your man in front of the camera is an idiot. Get the facts right. The hose would not put out the garage/shed fire. I know a person that was onsite. That is where I base my facts from an yet the fool in front of the camera is just making up bullshit to make the story something it isnt. VERY unprofessional.
@OSOK308A5, no offence, but your comment shows an inteligence level of a bucket of sand, I really hope you're like twelve, I cannot stand people like you. "It's cheap you fucking moron." Do I even have to say anything more? Have it ever struck you that maybe, just maybe, I don't know, that varies on how much you have in the first place? Even if not, I can still shit on your comment, but not with 500 characters and a small amount of time. People don't think ahead btw. Idiot describes you well.
@nospaceftw Your spelling and punctuation is a perfect example of your intelligence level. That is pure gibberish, obviously written by a young person. Now go fuck yourself.
@treefireguy If you would actually read into this, the firefighters would go in if there are people trapped. They are offering a service to residents who can choose to accept it or not. If you don't pay for something at a store its called stealing. Same concept. Check your facts first, then you can post a comment. Otherwise, shut your mouth.
Only in America, you poor residence of the states are at risk over greed and stupidity. You all pay taxes already how can the fire department charge a fee when employed by tax payers.
"I pray for all of you US citizens as your lives are depicted over a few dollars" We look at your government and sickened by what is going on, and we hope you open your eyes and act against these people controlling your lives.
Tax? How much wealth and land do you own? And how much wealth, land, resources, money and gold does the country own? Why the hell should you give your country any money at all? They have all the resources they need to make their own money. Something is very very wrong when they ORDER people with almost nothing to give them money.
This is why you need socialist policies. Your tax paid for the firetrucks, the water, and the wages of the fire department. If one county doesn't have a fire department, but boarders on one that does, then they simply need an agreement between the two municipalities. Where a portion of the tax from the one county is handed over to the other counties fire department to ensure coverage for everyone. Having it an on individual level increases cost as they need to keep track of who has paid.
This would only be an issue with fire dept. that are whats called Fire associations and they run strictly off of donations and the fee as well. This isn't a nation wide issue, fire protection districts and departments will fight fire regardless and in most cases the associations will fight it anyways.
Financially, this makes sense. Morally, however, this is wrong! However, it is unfair to lump all conservatives in the same boat. Many of the folks that I know that just happen to go by the label of conservative would have gladly assisted their neighbor if something like this happened.
I'm sure the firefighters feel very strongly against letting the house burn but as a paramilitary government subsidized organization you are expected to do what you are told. I joined the fire service to help those that could not help themselves, to be there on the worst day of someone's life. A person's ability to pay for a service would never have any effect on my resolve to assist those in need. Hell, most of us volunteer this service because we care!
I am a Canadian who was a volinteer firefighter ofr a summer and one in training for my time in the reserves. In this country, if your a responder, and you are trainned to responed to an emergency, you by law have to put it to use. We pay it once a year only during tax time, as one fee the the government. The city is not aloud to issue a fee unless you are being issued a ticket for violations of the law. I agree this is sickening. Obiously they have never heard of being a good samaritan.
As a firefighter we take an oath, to protect people and property of our community, town, city, whatever it may be. I am in utter disbelief that this kind of action was allowed to happen. There is absolutely no place for this in the fire service. I have never heard of a something like that being a departments standard operating procedure. The majority of the fire service is nothing like this, please do not let the action of these few tarnish the reputation of the otherwise dedicated fire fighter.
proffesor02 has it right, and this is why ron paul says get the gov out of our daily lives, they should only protect and defend our rights and freedoms, everything else, we would and should do for ourselves.
So what if someone was trapped inside? Nothing? They would watch as he burned? Murder. Absolute rubbish. If I was a firefighter I would risk losing my job if I ever encountered something like that. I would say screw you guys, I'm helping these people. They've lost everything they have, even their pets. Wankers.
Lets not forget that this was not a private fire fighting company this was a public company prohibited by political boundaries, and coercive municipal policy from doing their job. If this was a free market do you honestly think a selfish/greedy business owner would risk losing customers over this kind of press...not a chance. As a municipal firefighter I would much rather be connected with my community and customers by being directly accountable to them than to corrupt politicians.
Man the way this video draws left wing sheep to it I would have though it was a David Suzuki video. Firefighters have to eat as well, whether you pay that fee or not those firefighters will be paid their salaries and it will come out of your neighbors taxes as well as the fee they actually paid. Nothing is free in this world and to think otherwise is unrealistically idealistic and naive.
@Plinken12 The house was in flames. They had every physical ability to stop it. They stood and watched because of a city by-law. This is not a question of left wing vs. right wing, this is an issue of humanity. Are we so fucking caught up in money and politics that we can't save a few people in a burning building. If I want to save a life, that's not being a left-wing sheep, that is a desire rooted in the neomammalian part of our brains. Essentially, it's only being human.
FACT #1 The property owner is and has voted REPUBLICAN ( And be dammed those evil SOCIAL programs ** Quick... SCREAM "Damn Liberals did this!" ... now be a good sheeple and join the tea party * LOFL)
fuck them fire fighters, i hope there whol family gets stuct in a house that burns to the grown, and i hope all of them suffer a slow painfull death as there flesh melts !!!!!!!!!!
Michael Sandel did an interesting lecture on the morality of the firefighters, and whether or not their actions, or rather lack of. Was "good", or "bad".
In this case, i think Cenk, wants his cake, and eat it.
He says "THATS NOT THE AMERICA I WANT"...i hate to be the one to break this...but American was and is based on capitalism. Making MONEY!!!
If they allowed people to sign up on the spot, there would be no incentive for the people who have already paid.
Um, in some communities it's the fire companies job to protect subscribers. The unfortunate homeowner chose not to subscribe. I don't see a problem here, other than some Leftard going on a long winded rant.
Um, in some communities, it's the firefighters job to protect subscribers. The homeowner chose not to be a subscriber. I don't see the problem here other then some leftard going on a long winded rant.
@uranius007 It's not 'Democracy' you cretin... it's the end result of buying into the Republicans smaller government BULLSHIT! (gotta' love for profit privatization)
if my car breaks down, i would not expect the aa or rac to come and sort my car out.you dont pay the 75 bucks, your house goes up in smoke. if you dont like the charge, then vote the mayor out, and get the law changed. we all have to pay for things in life that we dont want to, thats life, but dont come crying the victim when you had a choice to pay or not, i mean, 75 bucks will buy you a few crates of beer. you drink the beer, then your house goes up in smoke, tuff. prioritise.
this is a ridiculous rule but if it is a rule i honestly think it should should be enforced, like a said retarded rule but if its a law then it shud be followd.. if it was that unimportant then it should be said (now i think its dumb that theres a law like that...i also think its very sad then its sad
The whole problem could have been avoided if the guy paid his 75 bucks. He even said the fire department came out in the past and put out fires when people didn't pay so he probably thought they would do the same thing for him. The fire dept probably got tired of it and couldn't afford it anymore so they proved a point with his house. I'll bet everyone paid up after that. The owner even admitted he forgot to pay so its his fault. He should be more responsible and this wouldn't have happened.
Lol, I don't see the problem... should have payed the $75. But honestly, if they're paying the $75 to government, then that's not privatizing, that's the equivalent of taxes, and tax money is used to pay these firefighters for their work.
Therefore, if you don't pay your taxes, why should you have the benefits? Cause other people will pay it for you?
But I agree with implementing a fee tacked onto an emergency firefight and you haven't payed.
They should have some type of rule where, if you don'y pay the $75 but your house needs rescuing then you must pay a $500 fine. This way people are more likely to pay the fee and people's homes aren't ruined.
@Mikelpsu11 The problem with doing that on rare events is that an average home is only likely to burn down every 50+ years or so. So to make your system fair, the fine would need to be more like $4000+. How many people (that are so desperate to save that they didn't pay the $75) have that much money just lying around to hand over in an emergency. Especially if they are now watching everything they own go up in smoke.
@Sids1192 Meanwhile the firefighters would have to effectively hold the house ransom until the price is paid. And if they can't, you'd once again have to sit back and watch it burn.
...only in america (and somalia, of course). I love this guy. The first show host I believe showing real emotions. If only there would be more of them.

On the fire ground you have no right to disobey a direct order. What this jackass is saying is that all those fire fighters should have lost their careers, and the ability to feed their families, because another jackass didnt wanna pay 75 bucks. Seriously 75 bucks... He gambled and lost. Its sad, but he chose not to pay!
nokmuay1970 1 week ago
Thats why there should not be options in EMS. You should be forced to pay the fee and get the service. Its part of your taxes, you pay it and you get it. OPTING out just leaves the wrong people catching the heat. The home owner knew the risk, he chose to gamble it. Had there been a standard service, they would have paid it in thier taxes, and they would have got the service... Sad, should never be an option really.
nokmuay1970 1 week ago
this guy talking is talking out his ass, nice drama queen stuff to. LOL He cant even make a decent analogy.
nokmuay1970 1 week ago
Bottom line is, they dont make the ru les, they follow them, the city mayor and coucil make the rules. So they follow thier orders like everyone else does. If the Mayor says dont fight the fire if the owner hasnt paid, then the chief will enforce that. If they did fight it, - poeople would be like hell Im not paying and will just gamble I dotn catch fire, if I do get a fire, they will fight it anyways
nokmuay1970 1 week ago 2

Why would they want to gamble with their own safety? Like you say it is too bad for them, their loss as far as arson for profit the day his barn went up he had just left to get some parts for his sears riding mower which was just outside the door he claims it must have bacfired next to the 2 bales of hay that had 5 gals of gas sitting on them,we are 5 minutes away and it was on the ground when we pulled up he was employed as a paid FF in our state,CT, on the sub-base a real pro..LOL
john6218att 2 weeks ago
We have automatic mutual aid response for all structure fires from neighboring towns and if need be out of state dept's and we all work together some fire taxes are billed seperately others are included in property taxes depending on the town when the job is done we go home knowing we did our best to help someone less fortunate than us the guy who's barn burnt in our town was a former 20 yr member who we canned for stealing among other things and had 3 other fires all occur when he wasn't home
john6218att 2 weeks ago

Nuff said..
samoanpunch 2 weeks ago
well Mr Know it all, I've been in the fire/ems here in CT for 28 yrs now and WE Don't Discriminate WE Help, people less fortuate than ourselves if it were YOUR house and you were in their shoes how would you feel? Do you belong to any fire dept? We have people who haven't paid their fire taxes for a few years in a row and one of them had their barn catch on fire, we still responded along four other depts and put it out, sounds like you need to take YOUR brains and do some crunching...
john6218att 2 weeks ago
@john6218att And I bet those people who haven't paid taxes are now subject to tax liens and could lose their property anyway. Which is ENTIRELY different from a subscription service like that down south. You are comparing apples and oranges my freind. This type of service is extremely rare in the US. It's not discrimination BTW. How would you feel if you were a city taxpayer and your house was on fire but the FD was taking care of someone who hadn't paid a dime while yours burned?

The commentator cannot say markets are at fault for this tragic situation because it is a fire department from a CITY GOVERNMENT. There is no system of market fire departments here. A market fire department would have gladly accepted the offer of the homeowners to pay for the service. Please read "Did the Free Market Burn the House Down" by Jeffrey Tucker. specialcircumstancer 3 weeks ago
@specialcircumstancer A protection racket??? Not hardly. You can't buy a fire axe for $75 dollars. New firetrucks start at 200K, and that's just the truck without hose and equipment. $75 is an absolute bargain.

john6218att 3 weeks ago
@john6218att How do you expect a fire dept. to function for free? Maybe you should take your brains and price fire equipment and fuel and then figure out how to pay for that with only $75 per homeowner. Crunch those numbers and see if you can do it. The homeowners should be ashamed of themselves for being too cheap to pay the 75.
ffjsb 2 weeks ago
@ffjsb Are you slow or what? Did you not see they were at the property standing around? Do you not realize that 30-40% of our money goes to taxes? To add additional fees for safety services is extortion. If our taxes do not cover basic safety then it's not the citizens fault, it's the government & how they have spent it. There is nothing different from what they did here than thugs coming into your home & telling you pay them $75 for protection. Safety is not a luxury in America!
samoanpunch 2 weeks ago
@samoanpunch I think you might be the one who is slow, or at least ignorant. The homeowner is a COUNTY resident, the FD is a CITY dept.. County residents DO NOT PAY ANY FIRE TAXES, thus the $75 FEE. (which is probably less than taxes would be) These county residents have REPEATEDLY voted down levies that would provide fire protection without subscription fees. It's THEIR fault, and they admitted it.
ffjsb 2 weeks ago
@ffjsb Ignorant huh? Nothing you sated changes a damn thing about having the decency to help your neighbor instead of standing there w/ the means to help them & choosing not to. If it were a jurisdiction issue they wouldn't have come out. If it were a money issue they would have helped then billed the county or the home owner as they asked. Fuck your so called righteous laws, WTF ever happened to just being a good person & helping your neighbor?? Your laws trump kindness??
samoanpunch 2 weeks ago
@samoanpunch Some of the neighbors had payed their fees, that's why they came out to prevent it from spreading to those houses. If they just came out, nobody would pay. They aren't obligated to come out at all. They could just say, start your own FD, but they offer service for a (very) reasonable fee. Kindness doesn't pay for fire trucks. I just spec'd a truck that costs over 500K, and that's not counting the hose and tools. That's another 60K. Maybe if you were a FF you'd know.
ffjsb 2 weeks ago
@ffjsb That's your problem is you're seeing it as a personal attack. Maybe it is if all you care about is money which it certainly sounds like. Or maybe you just dont understand economics because the only people that don't respect the work of FFs & medics are the ones cutting the checks. Do you even understand how much the gov is screwing you all?? How much of our taxes is wasted on nonessential CRAP? Try trillions. Our schools cut, FF cut, Police cut & you all fight US the taxpayers!
samoanpunch 2 weeks ago
@samoanpunch You still don't understand ANYTHING about how Fire and EMS systems works. Your knee jerk reactions aren't based on any facts just emotions. Now you're going off on the government and other things that have nothing to do with the topic. And BTW, the people who's house burned down DIDN'T PAY ANY FIRE TAXES. They wanted a dept who's funded by OTHER taxpayers to provide services for FREE. They were cheap and it backfired on them. They could afford it no problem when they needed it.

When a barn caught fire in a Canadian town we were shooting a film in, the fire trucks couldn't reach the barn because it was up a remote muddy hill. All the locals brought out their farm equipment to dig up earth and dump it out the fire to try to help smother it.

@Mikelpsu11 or the firefighters can jus do wat there supposed to do n fight the fire!!
