THE BEST breed in the whole world,i adore our wee Staff and have just applied to foster rescue Staffs...what i'd do to folk to bait them,make them fight or hurt them is UNPRINTABLE...
These dogs are great, always with a happy look on their face. Even when they are not giving their "staffy grin" they still have a nice, friendly, happy expression on their face.
They are a great pet. The only problems is that they are:
* Very stubborn
* Not very bright (very unintelligent)
* Can't handle heat very well
* Are horrible protection dogs
Aside from that, I would recommend staffies to families with kids.

I don't know whether I'd agree with the "not very bright" ... I'd say it's more like tunnel vision...if they're interested in something, then, yes, they're all over it but, if they're not? they just look at you with this "huh" in their eyes.

Staffies make horrible protection dogs because of their friendliness, but what I like about them is that they DO stand up for themselves. THey are super-friendly towards people yet won't let their owners abuse them.
If people hit my staffy for no reason he gets very defensive. So they are not pussies towards people, unlike pit bulls, which let their owner abuse them.

@bluegama500 I don't think he'd hurt them on purpose but he'd knock Marco flying just with his tail! He (the dog) is only 2 yrs old. We had to be more careful with our old terrier (all 4kgs of her). She was very old and would snap at the kids if they got too close to her face or were trying to play with her. We made sure that the kids left her alone...I mean to say, she was 112 human years old. I think she deserved to be left to sleep!!

If my dogs bite me, show aggression, bark too much etc I just kick them. Once my dog was barking a lot but every time I went out she went straight back in her kennel ,and she kept barking every time I went inside.
I then came out, she ran in her kennel again, I then grabbed her by the collar, dragged her, punched her in the head a few times then shoved her back in the kennel. She never did that again.

@bluegama500 Completely disagree - very intelligent. My stafford had tricks understood in 15 mins. She is so reseptive to my voice and commands and is a very smart well balanced dog. Not saying I have the best dog in the world by any means, all of our animals are beautiful in our eyes but Staffords not very bright? not very true at all.

She has stuck by me through thick and thin. sadly she is getting old now. Poor girl has gone deaf. but she is still full of life, which is what counts. Staffies are the only dogs I'd ever own.

I recently lost 1 of my staffies, still have the other1, they are without doubt in my opinion the best dogs i have ever had or seen, loyal, friendly, loving and protective, my kids and grandkids love them, and they love the kids, these dogs are called nanny dogs for a reason!!! they love kids and people, just because they can look after themselves should never be mistaken for savage or aggressive dogs!! They simply are not! only bad owners!! Love the video
YES!! My husband has a staffy, Harry and he loves the water but we live near a river and have been taking him there since he was 8 weeks old. He is the most friendly & gentle dog. Our cat is the boss and Harry takes care of our chickens when we let them out for a scratch.
My pied staffy called Billy hated water as well but he swims everyday now in Hardwick lake its just getting them used to it . He stinks like old mud but he enjoys it lol,
my staffie loves the sun but used to hate the water she used to be so scared and used to start to teremble badly when i used to go swimming, but shes got over it now,
shes 9 years old but she still tries to swim but can only swim about 10 m before she sinks, she enjoys it though. just give your dog time and exopsure to water and they will come around

That is simply an ignorant statement, they are not ugly and they certainly are not aggressive, get one man and you'll see. Staffs are the best all round breed of Dog, intelligent, loyal, loving and the best pal you will ever have. In fact you'd be hard pushed to find a person with these traits come to think of it!!

For once a decent video :-) I myself have a Staffie called Taz and he is awesome brill around kids likes to play and exercise, he just isn't to good with cats and other dogs as he used to be a stray and wasn't associated but he is making progress, as many people have said here "its the owners that turn them nasty" which is very true if you treat them well they treat you the same
hey all, i need some help - my staffy loves excercise espicially playing with footballs but get's distracted so... when i try to get her to pull something she doesn't like it and i can't use a football or anything to lure her etc.
she has very lttle confidence and she thinks that she can't pull anything but i know she can. she just kind of like.. stands there... she's more concentrated on the thing behind her, so i was wandering if anybody has had the same thing happen and what you did. thanks!
I have a Staffy X Jack Russell, although she is mostly Staffy. I love her dearly and she adores me. She is loyal and affectionate and loves kids. She loves to chew and dig but, hey, there's got to be a few downsides to the perfect doggy, huh?

Buddy of mine had two staffies...among the most loyal, tolerant, patient, loving dogs I;ve ever seen. But they have a downside...they can also be the most destructive little bastards I've ever seen..they chew EVERTHING! garden hoses, waterpipes, my partner's bra, my money, my car's fuel tank, the front door, plants..but you gotta love the little bastards. Unfortunately they were both poisoned by fucking niggers who planned to burgle my friend's house. Common practice in South Africa....
yes, use food and its easy! Start quite early though. A good thing to train them besides the basics is to "drop it". Teach them this when they are still puppies and you can still gently pry their jaws off something easily. Once they are older they have such strong jaws!

this breed is so good and any bad things about them are not true the owners are the one to cause the problems. my mum n dad were scared of getting one but love it now and realised they were wrong in their negative judgements.
Yes its true they were originally breed for rat baiting and bear baiting then for dog fighting, but dog fighting was outlawed in england in 1835, it continued in america where the staffy was developed into the pitbull.
Staffys are known as the 'nanny dog' because of their gentle nature around kids, kittens etc.

Ive had both Boxers and Staffs and never once did any of my Staffs (four over the years) get in anyway aggressive (except the bitch when she was just after given birth got a bit cranky with the lads, couldnt blame her!) unless they're attacked. Staffs dont give warnings however, they never start a fight but they will defend themselves and their family if attacked, whats wrong with that anyway? Best breed on the planet IMHO

Staffordshire terriers are NOT pitbulls! They are an english breed of dog and weigh generally at least 10 lbs less than the American Pitbull breed.
Approximately 25 percent of American Pitbulls contain traces of the lethal Italian breed that attack without being trained and without warning....
Pitbulls typically attack in packs ..ie...they see one dog attacking and they all attack.

I recently lost 1 of my staffies, still have the other1, they are without doubt in my opinion the best dogs i have ever had or seen, loyal, friendly, loving and protective, my kids and grandkids love them, and they love the kids, these dogs are called nanny dogs for a reason!!! they love kids and people, just because they can look after themselves should never be mistaken for savage or aggressive dogs!! They simply are not! only bad owners!! Love the video

Google kennels clubs in your area or google the American Kennel Club .. Never buy a dog unless It's from a reputable registered breeder.

YES!! My husband has a staffy, Harry and he loves the water but we live near a river and have been taking him there since he was 8 weeks old. He is the most friendly & gentle dog. Our cat is the boss and Harry takes care of our chickens when we let them out for a scratch.

My pied staffy called Billy hated water as well but he swims everyday now in Hardwick lake its just getting them used to it . He stinks like old mud but he enjoys it lol,

my staffie loves the sun but used to hate the water she used to be so scared and used to start to teremble badly when i used to go swimming, but shes got over it now,
shes 9 years old but she still tries to swim but can only swim about 10 m before she sinks, she enjoys it though. just give your dog time and exopsure to water and they will come around

That is simply an ignorant statement, they are not ugly and they certainly are not aggressive, get one man and you'll see. Staffs are the best all round breed of Dog, intelligent, loyal, loving and the best pal you will ever have. In fact you'd be hard pushed to find a person with these traits come to think of it!!

For once a decent video :-) I myself have a Staffie called Taz and he is awesome brill around kids likes to play and exercise, he just isn't to good with cats and other dogs as he used to be a stray and wasn't associated but he is making progress, as many people have said here "its the owners that turn them nasty" which is very true if you treat them well they treat you the same

hey all, i need some help - my staffy loves excercise espicially playing with footballs but get's distracted so... when i try to get her to pull something she doesn't like it and i can't use a football or anything to lure her etc.
she has very lttle confidence and she thinks that she can't pull anything but i know she can. she just kind of like.. stands there... she's more concentrated on the thing behind her, so i was wandering if anybody has had the same thing happen and what you did. thanks!

I have a Staffy X Jack Russell, although she is mostly Staffy. I love her dearly and she adores me. She is loyal and affectionate and loves kids. She loves to chew and dig but, hey, there's got to be a few downsides to the perfect doggy, huh?

Buddy of mine had two staffies...among the most loyal, tolerant, patient, loving dogs I;ve ever seen. But they have a downside...they can also be the most destructive little bastards I've ever seen..they chew EVERTHING! garden hoses, waterpipes, my partner's bra, my money, my car's fuel tank, the front door, plants..but you gotta love the little bastards. Unfortunately they were both poisoned by fucking niggers who planned to burgle my friend's house. Common practice in South Africa....

yes, use food and its easy! Start quite early though. A good thing to train them besides the basics is to "drop it". Teach them this when they are still puppies and you can still gently pry their jaws off something easily. Once they are older they have such strong jaws!

this breed is so good and any bad things about them are not true the owners are the one to cause the problems. my mum n dad were scared of getting one but love it now and realised they were wrong in their negative judgements.

Yes its true they were originally breed for rat baiting and bear baiting then for dog fighting, but dog fighting was outlawed in england in 1835, it continued in america where the staffy was developed into the pitbull.
Staffys are known as the 'nanny dog' because of their gentle nature around kids, kittens etc.
Great montage of photos, hope this changes some peoples perception of the breed.

mate the staffordshire bull terrior was evolved as a fighting dog, not a family dog. It became a more regular pastime in 1835 when the baiting of large animals such as the bear and bull was forbidden. It was at this time that the mining districts such as STAFFORDSHIRE made pits in abundance for dog fights, hence the name staffordshire bull terrier. Birmingham isnt even in staffordshire is it?

Birmingham & the blackcountry was in Staffordshire when the dog was named, Staffordshire as it is now had nothing to do with the breeding of these dogs.

Nasty very dangerous dogs. Soon they will be banned as there are so many irresponsible owners of this ugly breed. I saw a child attacked in the park by a staff off the lead. The dog was put down and the owner jailed.

Ive had both Boxers and Staffs and never once did any of my Staffs (four over the years) get in anyway aggressive (except the bitch when she was just after given birth got a bit cranky with the lads, couldnt blame her!) unless they're attacked. Staffs dont give warnings however, they never start a fight but they will defend themselves and their family if attacked, whats wrong with that anyway? Best breed on the planet IMHO
