  • Even though they came from well known bands, this is still one of the best debut albums EVER!!!!!!

  • To all that cares one of the origonal Singer's of Captian Beyond Willy D lives here in Portland !!! Met him 2 years ago at my Friends house very nice and Cool guy !!! RIP Rino

  • RIP Larry. You'll be missed. A real inspiration to all us old B-town players, always. God bless.

  • RIP Rhino

  • the captain and i go back to 72. the album captain beyond stays with you 4ever. to appreciate and understand this album is to have another door that has been unlocked. i still get the buzz listening and playin it i did so long ago.....................

  • " Capt. Beyond" is one of my favorite bands ever, Unbelieveably good!! I hear them a lot on TV sattilite. on directv ch. 840. All GREAT players!! Richie Barron

  • Neil Fallon from the band Clutch is a big Captain Beyond fan. He mentions this song in the Clutch song "Rising Son" and I've seen him wearing a Captain Beyond t-shirt. Great stuff.

  • I totally blew it stating on another thread these guys were the bridge to bands like Kiss and Queen. Wrong. These guys were very clever in how they hide their southerness at the time. They were the precurser to bands like Sea Level and the Outlaws. Somebody help me here, there are more. The truth is Captain Beyond were better than what came after.

  • Always one of my favorite bands. Rhino the lead guitarist lives in Florida and has a new band called Rhino and the Posse.. One of the great albums of that time and still great today. Unusual sound great musicians one and all. Google him and you can hear his new stuff on their website.

  • I love ol' times proto-doom!

  • Why the fuck did I not get into them before...heard sum tunes from another planet:)

  • tiptoe quickly

  • Baddest ass drum intro ever. Gnarliest guitar tone ever! Fk yes. REemember when I firs heard this. Passin the doobie shooting the shit, then my bud puts this on the turn table (yeah it was that long ago) and everybody shut the fk up. haha

  • what a beautiful way to start my day from a band I completely forgot about thank you thank you thank you for sharing one of my favorite LPs of all time. Of course when this came out in 72 I was very into mind expanding drugs the timing of course was perfect. I can tell you it still sounds great being clean for 7 years...

  • dude, this is the first time i heard this band, my friend showed it to me few hours ago. now i think its the 4th time i'm hearing this song lol, can't stop listening to it

  • 1:35 - 4:00 - 5:50 so fine shifts - oh yeah ma brotha pass da pipe! .-)

  • I can't believe this frigen band didn't last. This song Is light years ahead of It's time. Rock went from raunchy wire sounds to this amazingly friktastic high's. My skin still bumps every time I hear this.Nothing like getting flashbacks on musical coasters like this. Nothing compares!

  • This f'n album is so awesome I can remember the first time I heard it even though it was when it first came out (yep, I'm a dinosaur) and I was totally baked. It's an unrecognized classic.

  • Oh my fucking GOD is the japanese version... where you buy it?

  • @MrCulolio,

My Japanese Captain Beyond lp came from the import album bin of a mall record store sometime in the early 80's... it doesn't have the 3-D cover, but the sound and vinyl quality are unreal!

To find one now, check the eil or gemm rare music sites.

  • @clayopalstar any idea what the 3D cover goes for?

  • @packrat221,

On ebay they run 30-80 dollars used, depending on condition.

A sealed copy can go for much more...

These videos are sourced from the Japanese lp... incredible sound quality, but no 3-D cover.

  • Rod looked much younger in Captain Beyond than in 68-69 Deep Purple and in 1980 he looked kinda gay-ish.

  • top rock ... unique

  • Saw them live circa 1976. Can't remember any one else from that particular festival cause they blew them all to Hell.

  • I first bought the 3-D album...then went to go see them...they were unreal...I mean NO ONE was playing rock like this!!!!! This band is easily on of the greatest rock bands of all time...and they NEVER got the credit they deserved...such a shame...bad management will kill you dead...

  • Authentic epic hymns of cosmic-space-rock-era... Congratulations CLAYOPALSTAR.

  • Hey everyone why arent we calling radio stations and demanding this stuff?

  • @phydeauxddog

Cause music this heavy is extinct.

    unrad.

The day I got this LP I drop 2 tabs of acid (not condoning the use of it) and it took me into another dimension.

  • Why the deep purlpe slidesshow??

  • Because singer Rod Evans came from Deep Purple.

And Rhino and Lee Dorman came from Iron Butterfly.

And Bobby Caldwell came from Johnny Winter and The Allman Brothers Band.

After Captain Beyond, Bobby Caldwell played in Armageddon, another incredible unknown supergroup!

  • @clayopalstar Yup. Great reply. I'm impressed. Not a lot of folks know all that.
