I too really like low pressure sodium bulbs, because they are the most efficient conventional light source on the market, they have that deep red color when starting, rich yellow when fully bright, and they are also very rare. If only the City of Austin, Texas used LPS streetlighting, that would be interesting, because they are energy efficient, and are dark sky friendly.
Lustr/Vera-a-ray became Philips lighting div. in Hightstown N.J. Have many Philips/Norelco 35WW dusk/dawn fixtures, have used over 25 years, in harsh environment....flawless last long time. Philips used to make these in VanWert Ohio. MiniSox wall packs, large wall packs, sold the fixture div to american Electric years ago. Philips #1 lighitng company in the world, now owns all the Genlyte brands about 35 brands, Hadco, Lightolier, many make LPS fixtures.
@tobyjtb Years ago in teh 80's 90's Philips marketed them here in U.S. under Norelco or VL Service Lighting. Philips lighting was and is the world's largest, but in U.S. always 2nd fiddle to GEm. No more! since Philips bought Genlyte and got over 35 or so fixture companies they leapt past GE in teh US by about $2 BILLION in sales! Philips has always been biggest , but U.S. was tough. They sold Philips under Norelco, VL Service lighting, Verd-a-Ray out of Hightstown N.J.now Somerset N.J.

Must say, that lantern looks good running LPS. If you run it, don't give it frequent on-off cycles as it drastically reduces lamp life.

Holy Moly, about $2 BILLION bigger than GE which is #2 and Osram #3, and Osram is up for sale, will Philips and GE each take half, monopolize lighting products, ballasts, electronics everything Checkout Genlyte Philips group of brands besides what is under Philips labels!

I have something similar I ordered from the US. It's called a 'Yard Light' made by RAB. Also has Advance control gear for a 70w HPS (SON)

Unusual to see a fitting like that burning a SOX lamp. Usually they are hps, mercury or metal halide. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. LPS is common over here in the UK.
What make is the bulb? It should have a date code on it somewhere too.
