  • Thanks for putting this together...Loved it! I listened to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road about two weeks ago and I haven't been able to get this song out of my head. Driving my wife & daughter nuts walking around singing it. Hopefully, I can turn that page.

  • Roy would never approve of a homosexual , Roy was a good man, christian man. Elton is tooo full of himself.

  • @21Mickyman ...and one more...3. Get your facts straight before pointing fingers and putting down peoples' lifestyles.

  • @21Mickyman Oh, I'm on a roll! 4. This song was written in 1973, three years before Elton admitted his bisexuality to Rolling Stone magazine! (Yes, he used to be a member of BOTH teams!) So, in 1973, nobody knew what Elton was doing behind closed doors, WHICH, btw, WAS/ IS NOBODY'S GODDAMNED BUSINESS!!! and 5. Would Roy have had approved of this song? Hell, yes! Why? Name me another song that was ever written about him! (Buzzer sounds.) Time's up!

  • What a great job, thank you !!

  • sorry guys, I accidentally hit the dislike button 4 times. lol

  • Muito bom! Linda homenagem!

  • I love this, reminds me of my youth thank you

  • My wife always loved this song. But she is gone now. It's hard to listen to today. But I still love it.

  • 3 people apparently would rather cheese on their sandwich than ham..

  • Oh this made me cry. It's my life! Thanks for posting it.

  • i heard steven tyler quote this song last night on american idol and looked it up

    it's pretty good

  • "Turn on the TV, shut out the lights, Roy Rogers is riding tonight" Herredjävlar - that´s what I call music!!!

  • Perfeito!!!!!!!!!

  • Good job on the video .. thanks! Took me back to a place and time which was all about home and innocence.

  • Compliments from Italy for the video... The song is perfect naturally...

    Bye

    Lord Pinner

  • One word WONDERFUL

  • This could possibly be one of the best songs written about someone famous.

  • This song affects me in ways I cannot describe. I invariably cry when I listen to it. It's the magic of music

  • @dulcerias

Welcome & thanks for the nice comment.

    Have a nice day !

  • Absolutely one of my favorites. So many emotions tied to this song from years ago....

  • Wonderful song! I've been an EJ fan for 40 years now, and this is still one of my favorites. I can empathize with the fellow who works, takes care of the wife and kids, and still enjoys some magical moments of escapism before he goes to bed. Elton's music many times provides us with escape from mundanity. He and Bernie are the best.

  • Finally...

An Elton John tune I can actually like.

  • Hey, Elton, I have a song I wrote about the wide open spaces. I never did anything with it. I sure would appreciate you you working Roy into the story.

  • Sheer genius! How can you get everything so perfect? Words, tune, sentiment. Everything perfect in one song. Never get tired of listening to this. Thanks for putting this up, Jokarilon

  • I love this song, always been a big fan of Cowboys, horses, rodeos and Westerns.I can't believe I've never heard this song before, who wrote this song, was it Elton John?I love the video too,

    Peace,

    Jeannie

  • @jeanniebeaux I'm one of those kids, baby..It seemed as if every other kid had a Roy Rogers playset, except me!Well, ol' Roy and Trigger were my big favorites..By the way, I finally got my little Roy and TRigger, saddle and all, after all these years! Not bad, at 65..

  • @zipper179

I just watched this video again tonight, and I could listen to it everyday and never tire of it,simply beautiful! So you have your own Roy and Trigger, how cool, sure wish I had a couple of horses, most people say a dog is your best friend, but I disagree,I SAY IT'S A HORSE!!Great Video,I enjoy it very much.

    Peace,

    Jeannie

  • @jeanniebeaux Thank you so much, dear lady..You've made me feel 65 years young..I do like animals, in general..Good to hear from you..

    Peace, and, Happy Trails..

  • The part where he mentions "lets go shoot a hole in the moon" refers to astronaut Alan Shephard's (Apollo 14) first and only golf shot ever on the moon in 1972 when Bernie wrote this into his lyrics as something he would like to watch on the TV.

  • Perfection...

  • Is that Your Cabin? Looks tight where is it? Alberta?

  • its makes e cry(song)

  • gotta add-- I said recently the most quotable== I'd rather have ham in my sandwich than cheese, but complainin' wouldn't do any good...

  • I love the pronunciation of rogers!

  • I love this song, I love this artist- no one will ever write music like this again, which makes me all the more nostalgic...Let's go shoot a hole in the moon!!!!

  • This song punches me in the heart a little bit. Elton perfectly captures the sense of nostalgia and reflection in this.

  • It does indeed. Bernie & Elton were incredible together- the lyrics and melodies blended together so beautifully.

"...I can hear hoof beats ahead. Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop while the wife and the kids are in bed."

and , of course, the refrain is brilliant.

Definitely one of my favorite tunes from GYBR- what a fantastic album.

'I've seen that movie, too' is also outstanding, and Alice, Grey Seal, This Song Has No Title-- ut oh --think I'm gonna name all the cuts, lol.

  • I actually just bought the CD to hear some of the songs i dont hear on radio as much. Alice is a great song. Seen that movie too is another that paints a fabulous picture. It just screams Phillip Marlowe!!. I often wonder if Bernie ever wondered how a song might sound eventually and how close Elton came to that. Or maybe he didn't care!!

  • Bernie was always a fan of westerns. So it comes as no surprise that he would write about this particular subject.

  • @Terranova0 You, too..? Just watching 'The Trail Of Robin Hood', just last night, while the wife's in bed..My wife turned me on to this song..And, Roy and Trigger are hot on the trail..

    Peace, and, Happy Trails..

  • This will always be my favorite album by Elton ........... The Ballad of Danny Bailey, Harmony, Social Disease ... of course this one .... how can you go wrong.

  • Wonderfull comment. Nailed it.

  • yeah, it's makes you feel old and serene at the same time, makes you yearn for the good old days, if there ever was such a thing.

  • Let's not forget Bernie. Without him there is song. Peace

  • Saudades dos bailinhos de quintal, em especial da casa do Zé Lidinho...

  • One of my fav song from Goodbye Yellow Brick Album.

  • Fazia muito tempo que eu não escutava essa música, acho que mais de trinta anos, saudades desse tempo...

  • I love most all of Eltons songs but i wished to hell radio would give these hidden gems a little more exposure. I just bought Yellow Brick Road to hear these deeper cuts again.

When this came on i enjoyed immensely. Its made with such love an reverence and you feel it.

  • Of all Elton's songs, this is my favorite. Good old Roy.

    Thanks for posting it

  • a nice gem, thanks, glad I found this one

  • Thank you for posting this great song. It lifts my spirits everytime I hear it!

  • one of my favorites. thanks for putting it on.

  • You're welcome !

  • god i love this song so much

one of his best among hundreds

sends chills up my spine everytime

  • 1976 sitting on the bridge stairs after a long hot summer's afternoon of scooping grain on the railroad tracks...a cold beer, a girlfriend, watching the sunset...and singing along to Roy Rogers.

    -Muhldoon

  • For a double album "Goodbye yellow brick road" had very few bad tracks - but this is one of the best and underrated tracks from the album (along with Harmony).

  • Ahhhh....

    What else can I say?

  • Enjoy !!!

  • Yep - agree with the comments.

    Under-rated.

    Escapism.

    I can hearhoof beats ahead.

  • This one of the coolest songs by EJ.....how could anyone ever go wrong with a song about Roy? Thanks for this wonderful post!!!!

  • Welcome!

  • mr.Jokarilon youre the best! very creative!

  • Thanks, Kai... I'm flattered.

  • I love this song...great

  • Great song!!! Takes you a happier time. This song makes you take a moment to just relax and listen. One of the many under-rated songs of our time. Thanks for posting!

  • Yeah! Welcome & thanks too!

  • Elton sums up our work-a-day lives. Not much to do in the evenings, but a little escapism, in front of the tele.

  • "Evergreen heroes whose stories are told. Oh the great sequined cowboy who sings of the plains- of round ups and rustlers and home of the range..."

    Simply a brilliant piece.

  • I liked the huff beats at the end!

Great song off of a great album!

  • Always loved this tune. Thanks for posting it.

Any music conisseur should own a copy of"Yellowbrick Road." Like all great music, it holds up after all these many years.

  • Yeah, great song and almost (or it is) a classic now. Thanks!

  • Great job! I posted a video above for you to check out... Thanks.

  • Well, welcome & thanks! Ok, I'll check it out.

  • ... this album was a big part of my life back in the mid-70s, and this track is perfect. A testament to the genius of Taupin's songwriting skills and Elton's singing.

  • Still sounds great despite being over 30 years old! As does the whole album.

  • great job love this song

  • Thanks, inspiring comment.
