Hey Guys, Been watching your stuff for a year now and have been loving it! I don't think Millar is trying to insult the military, he's just getting lazy in the writing! 10 million! Who's in charge of this scheme Dr. Evil !! Elliot, whats with the Tony Harris hate? I'll take Tony over some crappy Liefield stuff. Keep up the great work guys.
Man I never said I hated Tony. I love Tony. I've been a fan of his since the Starman days. As a matter of fact, I've eaten pizza with Tony on his front porch. But even he will admit that he works more slowly than other artists. That's all.
Mark Millar forgets who breads his butter, Americans and if what he's doing in this book goes mainstream. I'll reckon he'll find his fortunes turn for the worse.
I think Miller's point is legit if it's applied to the military-industrial complex and its leadership rather than to the grunt on the ground. For example, our gov't armed Hussein in Iraq's war with Iran, then our soldiers died disarming him. Our gov't armed Afghanistan in their war with the Soviet Union, now our soldiers are being killed in the attempt to disarm them! On a lighter note, does anyone think a Batman/Doc Savage book is a good idea??!! Love 'em both but this can't end well...
That's a good observation SG. Although that wouldn't explain how the Al-Qaeda operative got more advanced tech and superior powers to the US forces. The folks we're fighting in the Middle East are using DIY ordinance, not advanced weaponry. We'll have to see how the story plays out.
Yeah, I totally see your point. I wasn't suggesting a parallel with the specific situation with Al-Qaeda. I meant only to address the general point in war that Eisenhower made when he warned us to "beware the military-industrial complex."
I REALLY hope your right, Elliot! I'm a big Doc Savage fan, but have been disappointed with the comic adaptations. Dark Horse's attempt wasn't too bad. I guess keeping my expectations low is a defense mechanism. I've got my fingers crossed 'cause I really want to enjoy it!
Mark Millar has never served in any military. if you've ever seen him you'd know that the rat-faced little git wouldn't be capable.
Also does it really surprise anyone when a Mark Millar book comes out that he's obviously phoned in the script and where the characters are completely one dimensional?
As someone who spent a good bit of time in the Army, you get all kinds, the shear number of people that serve and the high turn over rate(most serve only one enlistment) makes it hard to get the best of the best all the time. So you get the good and the bad. That being said I never met anyone in the Army that I though would sell out their country for money, maybe to get some nookie(damn, horny 19 year old's), but not money. =)
Heh! Well I did my first four years as Armored Recon 19D. Decided after the first Gulf War that there wasn't much of a future charging ahead of everyone else. So yeah, babysitting Patriot missiles seemed like a good idea at the time when I reup'ed.
Oh and Patriot Missile was 16T not 19D, not sure what the job are number like these days, been awhile =)
Can one be both a mercenary and a war hero?? I'm just thinkin of Han Solo, how he was in it for the money but did an about face when he realized friendship (and a hot princess) were more important than money.
How dare you say those things about the american military?, well I... never... such..., oh. Okay, okay. Intent of the author and all that stuff. Just got to that part. Alright. Okay. We'll see. Wait a minute. What were you talking about "loving" some "war heroes"? It doesn't sound like you loved... What's fishseashyes mean?
This has been an installment of "kneeJERKcommenter".
and I don't believe that for one second. JRJR can do two books a month so he'd easily get kickass done on time. Millar is spending all his time with his sycophants on his message board and pitching shitty scripts to hollywood producers
nice job guys

Oh, and I LOVE the idea of a Batman/Doc Savage book! I even like the tag-line they're using: "In a world without superpowers."

Well if you look back in military history, there were quite a few famous military leaders of "shifting loyalties" aka soldier's for hire.

uhuh, swiss pikemen, austrian landsknechts, condottieri, hessian soldiers, its was pretty common practice until the mid 19th century
