Thanks for putting this up! I needed an example for my public speaking class - am giving a speech on this dance and wanted to have an example to show how it's a social dance, raks baladi, over in Egypt ...
salaam sis some girl emailed me this.. a algerian man 38 years old who been married two times is going around the chat room looking for a new girl he is a sick looking man you cant miss him missing theeth and 6'4 know mounir chek from montreal...
pls email it to as many girls... he is looking for persian and arab girls..we have to help our sisters from this sick man...
I think i understand you because you are fed up of people associating this with sexuality but there is nothing you can do to change it and only people in America has issues with that. In Europe and middle east -as you kn0w- everyone would be bored with this defensive analysis. They enjoy the dance whenever they see it to be good: just like it should be
I think you should stop being defensive, enjoy your dancing because you are good at it and try to embrace the dance with all of its connotations. Instead of trying to change history and perceptions, try to accept them the way they are.I know you are right but you are missing the point sometimes. .
I'm not being defensive. You're judging me based on two videos I made a long time ago when I was angry because I didn't realize the nature of people and their negativity. This video was made in an entirely different context and for a different purpose. Not to defend myself, but to share cultural insights for people who may never get the chance to visit Egypt.
And by the way the expression "belly dance" is beautiful..why do you want to take it away from us? Even if it's a western expression it is now used by most middle eastern quite happily and in most meditarranean countries too. There is no shame...in fact, Egyptians are happy to "export" this as a touristic product, why wouldnt they be? so, just because you are defensive trying to exclude yourself from the gay label that so many people attach to the dance does not mean you are correct
I use the term that the people use for their dance. Its out of respect. If you want to call it strawberry jam, knock yourself out. Personally, I like to call things by the names the people they belong to call them. So if I'm talking about a specific Greek dance, I'll ask them the name of their dance, not try to give it my own name.
That said, I don't imply that Tito's dance is feminine. I'm just saying that the average Egyptian does not do belly dance..they only "follow" like this guy... the minority of males that practices belly dance or oriental -as you prefer-are people who intentionally learned and practice those skills so, it's not the product of a normal social interaction !!! state the facts because there are people who knows.
If you read the info at the beginning of the video you would have seen that I explained this is not a professional dancer and that most dance is done socially at parties. There are no schools in Egypt to teach dance. People learn socially and if the go professional, they may hire a choreographer to teach them stage presence. Others learn it by working in theatre groups but they are expected to already know how to dance. Tito learned how to dance Baladi at home then joined a folk company
my friend you have many things confused in your head again. No insult! Look, the man in this clip dances like most men at weddings in the whole region (middle east, north africa, mediterranean). This IS NOT ORIENTAL DANCE..it's just a product of it which is like the Greek "tsifteteli" which has many similarities with "belly dance". Therefore, you are comparing two different things. The average man is Egypt dances like this guy and not like Tito. Please clear this out...to people.
Part 2: It´s called "happy egyptian people dancing in Aswan"...I´ll try also to post more! Those videos are precious... Keep paosting them! Big kiss from Brazil
Hi Tarik!!I wish I was there as well! They are all beautiful spirited!I´d posted few days ago some more videos and one of them (kind of dark images...trying to capture the moment hehe...)but I think you would like...
Alright I have no problem with the dancing in this. Yes, the men are shaking their hips more than I'd usually like to see but its ok. None of them are shaking their chest like tito, none of them are 'bey2asemo', none are doing the 'ra3sha' and none have a scarf tied around their hips, I seem to see only the women have that done. However, tito does all the above which here is only done by the women, which is exactly my point.
I love this virdeo, I wish I was there, or could attend such gatherings and to be able to be happy and express it. I am far from being "Americanized" to keep poise. Respect comes from within thyself.
beautiful a bout time i saw that i a beautiful couple dancing together i loved it please post more and thank you for the video they look so nice . its great!!
So what is that most people in the world have no idea about what Egyptian culture is like. They think you're all a bunch of terrorist, so I'm showing them.
Here is something that we are told never happens; men and women dancing together. I love the relaxed manner in which the people are dancing. Not like Westerners trying to "bellydance" - frantically shaking their hips and shoulders, with a facial expression that says, if I don't fit every move that I have learned into this one song, I have failed!
HAHAHA , I am sorry that is true and so funny! That is hillarious! I myself am American (American Indian), so I do understand about culture, and natural dancing for expression of feelings. Our dancing is different, but for the same reasons.
Heey they're such a sweet couple. =3 I hope they're married, they look cute together. ^^ And yay! This really is a great example, THANK YOU for this. ^^ Slutty dancers get kind of annoying. <_< But, well... sex sells so myes. But really I love this clip thaank you. ^^
Nice!
